PAGE 2 TUPPER LAKE FREE iS, WED., NOV. 25,1981 Lumberjack Players' 'Don Quixote' well-done, amusing "The Wonderful Adventures of Don Quixote", an amusing little p'••„• — c modern day Spanish gentleman, caught up in the fairy tale world of knighthood, the days of yore, of rescuing fair damsels in distress- all in the name of adventure, was well performed by the Lumberjack Players this past weekend at the high school. The play, in five scenes, centered around an eccentric Don Quixote de> LaMancha who imagined himself a wandering knight, in pursuit of dragons, old wizards, evil lords, wicked knights, to win the admiration of his fair lady- the "most beautiful, the most gracious" Lady Dulcinea del Toboso. Despite crying and pleadings from his concerned niece, Antonia, played by Linda Guthman, and his elderly housekeeper, Josephina, played by Tricia Woods, Don Quixote's mind, as rattled as it may have been, was made up- he would follow the way of adventure. Even the two village scholars, Derek Gagnier as Dr. Sanson Carrasco, and Mark Yamrick as Master Nicholas, the local barber, were stumped to find an immediate solution to prevent the would-be knight from setting off. Dr. Carrasco led his comical sidekick, the barber, around the stage in circles of "think... think... think.... think", until "stop", the answer was clear. They would humor Don Quixote, at least for a little while. On his trusty steed, "Roscinante", which looked more like a Schwinn two-wheeler, the nutty knight and his loyal servant, Sancho Panza, set off for adventure. The bickering of Sancho's wife, a sharp-tongued wench played by Cyndi Hamilton, soon subsided when she realized her Sancho would be paid royally to accompany Don Quixote. Both the wife, Teresa, and wide-eyed daughter Sanchita (Kathy Ayotte) seemed less concerned about papa leaving, once he plunked down a bag of coins and a promise that the knight would soon make Sancho a "duke". Their travels led the knight and his squire to a shepherd, Manuel Gonzalez punishing a young boy, obviously for some kind of disobedience. "It is the evil wizard, and he is trying to turn that boy into a pig," our hero cried out, ready to slay the wizard with his trusty wooden sword. "Looks like a shepherd... smells like one too," the comical Sancho grinned at his boss. He frantically convinced the knight that perhaps it was not so wise to slay Jamie Perrigo, to prevent Steven Peroza from being turned into a pig. Off again, Don Quixote, confused the bleating of lambs for cries from hordes of enemy knights (no doubt under the employ of his arch rival, the Knight of the White Moon), and saw three windmills, as three giants. The lambs ran away; he was almost chewed up by the windmills. Donning a barber's bowl, lifted from a villager (Andrew Flynn), as his golden helmet, the wacky warrior and his side-kick set off again. Their travels took them to a local inn, under the proprietorship of an obliging innkeeper, and his not-soobliging wife. Miguel (Kirk Gagnier), smiling from ear to ear, and his catty wife Alicia, (Meg Meader i in Don Quixote's mind, the Lord and Lady of a great castle, were asked for a solution to end the enchantment of his fair lady, Dulcinea del Toboso.
