Harvest
Thank you for your generous giving at Harvest. We had a great time celebrating
our Harvest Festival, we sang some super songs and shared time together
thinking about the people who need help in our local community. All the
food has been taken to the Pye Green Foodbank and was gratefully
received. Thanks to you all for your contributions
Some children also responded and wrote prayers to God giving him thanks for the good things in
their lives these are on display in the entrance hall.

Children is Need takes place on Friday 18th November. We held a vote and gave children the
choice of whether they wanted to dress up in spots or dress up as their hero like last year and the
overwhelming choice was to dress up as their hero! During the day, the School Council will be
holding a ‘Guess how many spots are in the jar.’ Competition and children can give 50p to guess
how many sweets are in the jar. The closest guess will get the whole jar of sweets as their prize.
Anti-bullying week is the 14th-18th November. We will be taking part in activities on
Monday 14 November to answer the question ‘What is bullying?’ and Mr Truby and pupils from
Kingsmead High School will be performing a drama to the children to help them understand what
bullying is and how we can prevent it in school. For more information and ideas to discuss with
your children, visit http://www.bullying.co.uk/anti-bullying-week/

Congratulations to our sporting stars!
On Wednesday 19th October, a team of Year 6 children competed in a football tournament
at Rugeley Leisure Centre linked to the Sainsbury's School Games. There were 2 groups of
teams and Pye Green Academy played superbly to win each of their games without conceding
a goal and won their group! They are now going through to the final alongside the winner of
the other group and the 2 winning teams who played in the same competition held on
another day.
On Thursday 20th November the same team played in a friendly match against Moorhill Primary school. After
initially going 1-0 down they worked together to finish with a 6-1 win!
Well done to Finn, Will, Kyle, Aliah, Harvey, Kieran, Liam and George.

It is important that children
are in school on time.
Arriving late can be disruptive and unsettling for
your child, and attending after 8.55 am will give
your child an unauthorised mark for the morning
session.

On Wednesday our children were visited by Harriet Goodwin, a local author.
Throughout the day, which was funded by the Parent and Teacher Association, Harriet
worked with all Y6 pupils during two creative writing sessions and signed copies of her
books for them. She also met with all children in Y1/2 to share a story and held an
assembly with all Key Stage 2 pupils, in which she shared with them how she became a
writer and about her ‘dream’ which inspired her to write her first novel ‘The Boy Who
Fell Down Exit 43’.
Harriet was extremely impressed by our school, its ethos and our pupils. We were very
proud of all of our pupils and the way they conducted themselves throughout the day.
We received this email from her following the visit –
“I really couldn't have asked for a better day: wonderfully receptive
students; a calm environment in which to work; a great sense of purpose in
the school as a whole: a rare find these days. You looked after me so well,
too! It was great to see the staff engage with the sessions, rather than
use the time as an opportunity to get on with their marking at the back.
The students saw that they were involved, and this makes SUCH a
difference.”
We hope to invite Harriet back soon to work with other year groups.
This is what some of our Y6 pupils thought of the day…
Thank you for visiting us, I mostly
enjoyed you signing my book The
Boy Who Fell Down Exit 43 – so far
it is amazing!
I enjoyed your visit and loved
all of it. I love the Boy Who
Fell Down Exit 43 and I’ve
already finished reading it.
You’ve inspired me to write a
book.
I loved getting my
book signed.
I really enjoyed your visit,
especially the bit where you
taught us how to open a story
well and grab the reader in.
Thank you for coming into our
school. I enjoyed writing our
openings best.
Your visit was inspirational,
fun and you have inspired me
to write. Your books sound
amazing so I’m going to get
them for Christmas.
I really enjoyed your visit and I
love The Hex Factor book. I
loved doing the opening
stories and hearing about your
lifetime.
I thought the day was very
exciting and I enjoyed spending
time with Harriet Goodwin – a
real author. I enjoyed the
writing session with her when
she explained how to make a
good story beginning and how it
must create atmosphere.
I have had the best morning with
Harriet Goodwin. I loved how she
had a dream and decided to
write a book about it. I liked it
when she acted during our
writing session with her – it was
funny.
Your writing inspired
me to finish my story
off.
