24TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - SEPTEMBER 11, 2016 MISSION APPEAL AT HOLY NAME OF JESUS PARISH TODAY: Fr. James Kairu (Assistant Pastor: St. Joseph’s Parish, Langley) will be making an appeal for a project in the Diocese of Eldoret, Kenya, in order to raise funds and help the many orphans who face many challenges such as drug abuse, high rates of school dropouts, death of parents due to HIV and AIDS, child labour, incest, molesting, early pregnancy, war, children and violence among many others. The proceeds of the second collection today, loose and yellow envelopes, will be directed through Fr. Kairu to the Mission Appeal in Kenya. Those who are using the green envelopes for the collection for the needy can choose to mark their envelope “Mission Appeal” or leave it as it is and the proceeds from the green envelope will go to the support of local needy and our refugee family. HOLY RELICS OF SAINT ANTHONY OF PADUA TOUR: Two first-class relics of St. Anthony of Padua will return to Canada for an eight-day tour of the Archdiocese of Vancouver, October 5th—12th. One reliquary contains the floating rib of Saint Anthony and the other contains layers of the saint’s skin. One of the two reliquaries is blessed because of its association with Pope Francis and Suor Lucia of Fatima, both of whom received the holy relic for a special blessing.
