BARITONE OR EUPHONIUM In lieu of purchasing an instrument, we strongly recommend that the students playing baritone take private lessons. Individual attention to help the students become familiar with the instrument is priceless. C.D. Fulkes offers a quality private lesson program where the students may take lessons during their band class or after school once a week as time permits. Lessons should run around $16.00 per week for one half hour. If you decide to pursue this, you will receive information about it in the Band Handbook that your student will receive the first week of school. Please encourage your child to keep an open mind when trying all the instruments. We will consider your child’s aptitude as well as the overall needs of the group when recommending instrument placement. We want to place your child on the instrument on which they will achieve the highest. What instruments are available to start on in beginner band? Flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, alto saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion. How many of each instrument will we need? We will take as many of the flute, clarinet, trumpet and trombones as we can. Oboe and bassoon will be one or two each. F horn, alto sax, baritone and tuba will each have about four and we will take six percussion. This will ensure the best mix for the group at performances. What do I do now? After an instrument has been picked, start purchasing the items one at a time. Most are very inexpensive but will add up to a sizable amount. Try to buy one or two a month until August.
