PRESS RELEASE
FROM AFRICA TO SOUTH AMERICA: TWO NEW PROJECTS FOR THE SALINI GROUP
 NECKARTAL DAM IN NAMIBIA: PROJECT VALUE € 250 MILLION
 TWO LOTS OF THE NEW LINE 6 OF THE UNDERGROUND IN SANTIAGO, CHILE:
PROJECT VALUE € 120 MILLION
Rome, 2 April . Salini has been awarded the contract for the construction of the Neckartal dam in Namibia,
estimated € 250 million.
This past 28 March, the official ceremony entrusting to the Salini Group the construction of Namibia’s
largest dam was held in Keetmanshoop, the capital city of the region where the Neckartal will be built. The
award ceremony was presided over by the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, and Forests – the client – and the
region’s Governor, with authorities and the local population on hand.
Situated in the south of the country, in the Karas region along the Fish River, the project is the first phase of
the Neckartal Irrigation Scheme. Made with roller compacted concrete (RCC) and standing about 80 metres
in height, the Neckartal dam will harness the water of the Fish River to produce power and create a reservoir
holding 857 million cubic metres of water, to be used to irrigate 5,000 hectares of soil to develop farming in
the area.
A few days before the project in Namibia was awarded, the Salini Group, along with the Impregilo Group,
obtained another success in Chile as well, consolidating its expertise in building transportation
infrastructures. Representing the new success of the Salini/Impregilo industrial and strategic partnership was
the award of two lots of the new Line 6 of the Santiago underground, with works valued at € 120 million
(Salini’s share € 61.2 million).
