Mace operates in one of the UK’s most
important industries, employing millions
of people to deliver where we live, play
and work from historic and cultural
buildings to 21st century sky scrapers.
The construction industry is responsible
for connecting our cities, enabling our
travel, entertainment, protecting our listed
buildings, and providing energy.
There are careers in construction to suit
everyone’s skills. Construction is one of the
few industries you can enter with varying
qualifications, and where you have the
option of working your way up to a senior
level while earning and learning your way
through. With the variety of careers, every
day will be different!
An apprenticeship is one of the best
routes into construction as it allows you
to achieve work based learning and site
experience. This means that you will have
the opportunity to develop skills and
achieve recognised qualifications.

Who is Mace?
Working at Mace
Mace is a leading international construction
and consultancy company. We were
founded in 1990 by five enterprising
construction professionals who believed
that there was a better way to deliver
for clients and the communities in which
we work. We believe that for Mace every
day is an adventure. Every challenge is
an opportunity to think and do differently.
Every space, every structure, every city
is a chance to imagine better. For over
25 years our adventurous spirit has driven
us to do things better, to push for more,
to improve the world, to move the
industry forward.
At Mace we manage the delivery of
projects for our clients. Although our
teams don’t physically lay the bricks,
we manage all of the activity needed
to make a construction project happen.
We can help clients at every stage of
a project – from having an idea to
managing a building every day.
If you enjoy working with people and
being part of teams that are working to
help shape cities and build sustainable
communities – then Mace is the place
to start your career.
The Shard during construction
Our teams are made of talented
professionals; architects, project
managers, engineers and construction
managers who combine their skills and
expertise to ensure we deliver the best
solutions and service for our clients.
What do our
roles involve?
Apprentice Project Manager
(consultancy)

Expo 2020
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Project Managers are involved in the
whole lifecycle of a construction project,
from when a client has an idea through
to handing over the finished project.
Projects could include a school, hospital,
office or retail outlet. Project managers
work with a range of people including
clients, designers, quantity surveyors
and the team constructing the building to
manage the cost, quality and programme
of a project. The goal is to complete the
project on time, within budget and to
the client’s expectations.
“Textbook understanding is
nothing without gaining physical
site experience and learning from
managers and contractors with
years of experience. The Mace
apprenticeship gives you the
best of both worlds while earning
a decent wage!”
Georgina Cox
Apprentice Building Services Engineer
Apprentice Quantity Surveyor
Quantity surveyors are the accountants
of the construction industry. This is
about planning, and managing the
contracts and flow of money involved
in projects. This is ideal for people with
strong numerical skills who want to be
involved in iconic buildings.
“Once you have completed your
degree you will be fully supported
by Mace to go forward with
working to achieve professional
membership of the Royal
Institution of Chartered Surveyors”
Apprentice Civil Engineer
(construction management)
This is a role where you can see the results
of your work every day. Engineering is
at the core of our construction business,
getting the foundations and the structure
right is fundamental to the success of
our projects. The engineering role has
an impact on the way that we build
and deliver our projects. As a trainee
construction manager specialising in
civil engineering, you will help the
project team in the daily control,
management and coordination of
construction structural activities to
ensure the project is delivered on time,
on budget and to the required safety,
environmental and quality standards.
Laura Collins
Quantity Surveyor
“It is a great company as there are so
many experienced people that you
can learn from on a day-to-day basis.
Mace as a company take training very
seriously and over the last 4 years I
have gone on a wide range of courses
on topics related to the construction
industry. My biggest personal
achievement is seeing myself develop
over the last four years.”
Aaron Higginson
Apprentice Construction Manager
“To walk past a building and say
‘I’ve done that’ is a great feeling.
Mace allow you to make decisions
for yourself and support you on the
way. Mace has matured me into an
adult giving me on site experience
and training. I’m more confident in
myself as a person and I feel like a
construction manager in the making.”
