Mav Wrestlers Win First Dual of the Year,
Defeat Newman University (KS), 31-15

Mesa State College wrestling team won its first dual of the year at the Jack
Hancock Dual Invitational in Golden, CO, hosted by Colorado School of Mines on
Saturday.
The Mavericks went 1-3 in the dual meet, falling to host Colorado Mines, 34-13
and Carson-Newman (TN), 34-18. In the Consolation round MSC fell to Utah
Valley State, 26-12.
In consolation round #3, MSC beat Newman, 31-15, winning six individual
matches. Garrett Burner (133), Kirk Piatt (149), Taylor Torisk (157), Cole
Johnson (165), Andy Laiminger (174) and Chris Kennedy (285) were
victorious. Piatt and Laiminger pinned their opponents and both wrestlers
finished the day with a 3-1 record. Teammate, Johnson also recorded a 3-1
record for the tournament.
Mesa State will travel to Greeley, CO on Sunday for the Northern Colorado Open.
