VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR If you enjoy working with people, getting your hands dirty, and have a heart for Africa, this maybe the job for you. The volunteer coordinator does more than just organize all volunteer activities at JBFC’s rural campus, in Kitongo, Tanzania. This person will be the familiar face for all volunteers, including high school, college, and church groups as well as individuals and families. We are looking for someone who is a people person, highly organized, able to think quickly on their feet, and are able to adapt to any situation. One day you might be helping volunteers at the JBFC Library with their reading buddies and the next day you might be out on the JBFC farm, helping plant banana trees. The Volunteer Coordinator should constantly strive to educate the volunteers about JBFC’s missions and programs and facilitate an enjoyable experience for them. This should always be done keeping in mind JBFC’s rules and regulations. The Volunteer Coordinator should have open and frequent communication with all staff on campus to ensure they are aware of current projects, but reports directly to the Administrative Director. Primary Tasks Include, but are not limited to: Be the point person for all volunteers at the JBFC Kitongo campus Prepare itineraries for each group or individual visiting JBFC, keeping in mind that schedules and plans need flexibility Oversee the guest house and make sure all of its supplies are in proper order and good condition before and during a volunteer’s stay, reporting any issues to maintenance in a timely manner and keeping frequent communication with the housekeeping staff o Sheets should be cleaned on a weekly basis and between groups o Volunteer house should be cleaned and mopped daily o Bathrooms should be cleaned twice daily when large groups are present o Trash should be taken out daily o General living spaces should be kept orderly o Kitchen should be cleaned as needed and kept organized o Check bathrooms and lights periodically to make sure everything is working o Inventory all food and cleaning supplies and report needs to AD, with at least 2 days notice Uphold all volunteer house rules and guidelines from the volunteer handbook Schedule pick-up and drop-off for all groups and volunteers at the airport Coordinate all day-safaris with the safari company for each group and individual Coordinate village night with local families Take pictures of volunteer activities and send to U.S. staff and contribute content to JBFC's social media presence. Oversee meals and snack time for the volunteers Work with groups to facilitate projects, making sure that the supplies for these projects are purchased and on campus prior to the group’s arrival in order to ensure that volunteers are productive during their time here Hold daily debriefings and meetings with all volunteers to keep open communication with guests Work with AD and ED to implement weekly educational activities to improve cultural awareness of the volunteers Report any behavioral, emotional, or cultural issues with AD or ED as soon as possible Benefits: $400/month stipend Free Room and Board Monthly Stipend at JBFC’s restaurant, Papa’s Round-trip International plane ticket Requirements: College Degree Fluent in both written and spoken English Preferences: Background as a camp counselor or experience in education Basic knowledge of Swahili Experience living/working in a developing country Start Date: March 1st, 2015 To apply please send a resume, three references and a cover letter explaining why you’re qualified for the position to [email protected].
