the Winds of Division are Blowing Strong
Not such a Great result for the
Southern States
• South feared Northern Aggression and
an increase anti-slavery eradication
efforts from northern abolitionists
• South feared that their power in
Congress had eroded beyond fixing
• Feared Abraham Lincoln would free ALL
slaves at any moment
Lincoln is elected on Nov 6, 1860
• Southern States felt that their way of
life was under attack and vowed to
defend their rights at ALL costs
Secession (noun): the act of separating
from a nation and becoming independent
