“You can’t have everything. Where
would you put it?”
Simplify Everything
-Steven Wright
Stuff! It’s everywhere. We spend our time, energy and money
filling our homes, cars, calendars, offices, relationships and
minds with stuff! Often times, much of it is quite useless and
a waste of our time. We have stuff we forgot we had, because
we build special storage places for our stuff. We pack every
white space in our calendars with stuff, because somewhere
along the line we’ve bought into thinking that being busy
equals being productive and being productive equals
success and success equals money which in turn allows us to
get more stuff! Quite an amazing and depleting cycle!

I would challenge you, starting today, to begin simplifying your life. After all, each of us is only
granted a certain amount of time on this earth and the space we purchase has its limits, too. You
can start by asking yourself if your life or your lifestyle needs to be simplified. Thomas Leonard,
author of The 28 Laws of Attraction, provides a simple litmus test by stating this, “Your lifestyle
should enhance your life, rather than spending your life enhancing your lifestyle. A key realization
is that having depth in your interests and activities is usually less expensive and more fulfilling
than having a wide but shallow range….it’s like trying too hard to ‘have a blast’ on New Year’s Eve.”
Three great distinctions to make as you ponder a simpler life:
Simplify vs. Eradicate – To simplify is to make less complex. To eradicate is to cut things out.
Space vs. Time – When you don’t have enough space, time becomes a limited resource.
Outsource vs. Delegate – Outsource is to hire a professional to handle the matter. To delegate
means you still own the problem but you are working with someone who will do their best to
solve it.
