PRAY FOR THE UNREACHED PEOPLE OF THE DAY www.unreachedoftheday.org Soninke, Sarakole of Gambia Everyone occupies a place in the Soninke social organization. Being king or a smith was not by choice, it was an inherited position. This hierarchy is very important in Soninke culture. This structural social organization is divided into three levels. The highest levels are the rulers and priests and educators, and the lowest level is the slaves which form the major part of the labor force. The different Soninke social classes do not marry one another. The Soninke were one of the first West African ethnic groups to convert to Islam. Ministry Obstacles The social structure within Soninke society may inhibit the flow of the Gospel when it comes. Outreach Ideas Pray that some of the Christian tribes in Gambia will be led to take the Gospel of Christ to the Soninke people. Pray that any tribal hostilities will be overcome. Pray for the followers of Christ There may be a few followers of Jesus among the Soninke tribe of Gambia, but even this much isn't certain. Pray the Lord is now preparing hearts to receive the good news of Christ when it comes to them. Pray for the entire people group Pray the Soninke people will have adequate medical care, clean water, and schools for their children. But they were jam-packed full of great blessings, let us share them with you. At the end of July we were joined by a group of teens from Calvary Baptist Church in Ypsilanti, MI. These teens come every two years to present sports evangelism in the neighborhood parks. Many Peruvian children, teens, and adults heard the good news of salvation and many decisions were made. We are so thankful for these teens that want to come and minster and we are excited to share with them what missionary life is all about. The end of July brings the annual winter youth retreat at camp. The youth always look forward to these 3 special days of classes and competition. What a joy it is to work with them! David taught 2 classes on “Who should I Marry?” He also translated for the main speaker. Kandie helped in the kitchen preparing meals for 120 people. Abigail was a camper and Jacob enjoyed spending the days with his cousins back in Trujillo. August brought us another huge blessing a visit by a group from Faith Baptist church in Salisbury, Maryland. This group dedicated their time to building a pastoral intern apartment on the roof of our church building. The men are skilled in construction and the ladies painted in the church building as well as other jobs. Of course, it isn’t all work. We did spend one full day of sightseeing and enjoying fellowship together. Our church people are thrilled when groups come and love being involved with them. Second semester Bible college classes are in full swing with 52 students studying. David is teaching 3 classes this semester. School at home has also started. Abigail is now a senior and Jacob is a freshman. On the college front, Benjamin is beginning his junior year and Rebekah is beginning her freshman year, both at Faith Baptist Bible college in Ankeny, Iowa. Yes our winter break did fly by but it was full of blessings. We are now beginning to make plans for our furlough year. We can’t wait to share with you personally how God is blessing His work here in Peru. David & Kandie
