Primary School Singing Project
Year 5 took part in the Primary School Singing Project at The Academy of St Francis of
Assisi. Children spent the morning rehearsing and in the afternoon performed, with six
other schools, to an audience of parents. Their performance was fantastic and enjoyed
by all.

This is Mariam, she will be in the office each Wednesday Thursdays and
Friday and is able to help with Arabic translation if needed.

Alopecia Day
On 4th July we will be raising funds and awareness for Alopecia UK. As part of this on
Friday 19th May we will be having an own clothes day. Children are asked to donate
items for the afternoon tea raffle such as; tea bags, hot chocolate, cakes and biscuits.
SATs
A huge well done to Year 6 who have worked so hard this week completing their
SATs tests. Every single child has tried their best and worked so hard - we are all
very proud of them. Their positive attitudes throughout this week have and the
effort children have put in have again made us proud. We would also like to
thank parents and carers for your support at home leading up to the tests, this
has greatly helped the children.
Thank you also to Mrs Fawcett and Mrs Parkinson for the huge effort they have
put in to ensure the children were prepared as well as they could be for this
important time and for ensuring that the SATs tests have run smoothly this
week.
We know that the SATs tests only measure how well the children have done in
English and maths and are not a full reflection of the children's talents and
abilities, so we now look forward to the many opportunities ahead that have been
arranged for the children.
Thank you again for your support, your children are a credit to you.

of it and you depend on it”

Final footsteps in Year 5
So here we are, it is are final term of Year 5 and it has flown by. We have
covered lots of subjects and learned many new skills. Now it’s time to put them
all in to practice and show how great we can be.
Super shapes & amazing angles
This term we will be
reading stories from
other cultures. Our
class book for this topic
will be Beverley
Naido’s ‘Journey to
Jo’burg’. This is a tough
yet emotional journey of
two children desperately
trying to get help from
their mother. They must
make a long journey to
Johannesburg whilst
dealing with apartheid
within their country.
What will two small
children do and can
they make it to
Johannesburg?
Independent
Writer Of The
Week
Congratulations
Eden Ghirmay
She has written an
excellent letter to Sir
David Attenborough,
to find out more about
him.
So far this term we have been
delving into the mysteries of
shapes. We have looked closely
at identifying shapes from 2D
representations, by correctly
identifying their features. Also,
we are just coming to the end of
amazing angles work. As we have
been learning to measure angles
using a protractor, even
accurately measuring our on 2D
make shapes.
Finding DNA!
As part of our current science topic Mrs
Edwards came in to our class to show us
how to find the DNA of some fruits. This
was part of a bigger discussion around
how are DNA can change us physically
and how we inherit these features from
our parents.
Using hand mashed strawberries and a
alcohol based solution we were able to
mix these together and separate it’s DNA.
Programming & Performance.
Over the past few weeks Year 5 have been lucky
enough to take part in a number of different
activities.
We have been learning all about robotics.
Focusing on how we can programme computers
and robots to complete tasks.
We were also part of a multi-school partnership
that took part in a musical performance. The
class sang two songs, one which had lyrics
written by themselves. They should all be very
proud.
