George Walton Academy Middle School Athletics
George Walton Academy’s Middle School athletic programs are intended
to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for the student to gain

Coaches for approved sports will be provided by GWA.
All athletes must have a completed physical and signed Student Athlete Authorization to
Release Information form (Drayer form) on file in the clinic prior to participating in any
practice or competition.
All competition must be completed so that students can return to GWA no later than 9
p.m., without prior approval from Middle & High School Principal Steve Whitley.
In addition, GWA will provide referees, practice facilities, competition entry fees and
other items needed to play the sport. Limited transportation to competitions will be
provided depending on the number of students involved in the event and the varsity
athletic schedule. Coaches will advise parents on transportation needs.
Parents of team members will collect gate fees, staff the concession stand and work
sporting events as timers, chain crew, and volunteer in other areas as needed.
Parents of athletes will provide meals for athletes, uniforms (unless borrowed from
school), and other items as approved by the sport’s head coach. Clothing items must be
approved by Chris Stancil to be allowed to be worn to school. Use of official George
Walton Academy logos and images in any way is prohibited without written permission
from the GWA Marketing Department. Designs using the words George Walton
Academy or GWA or any variation must also be approved from the Marketing
Department prior to production.
Total expenses that must be paid by parents for a student to participate in a middle
school sport must be approved by Mr. Whitley prior to money being collected. All
checks must be payable to GWA and deposited through the GWA Business Office.
GWA will provide a photographer to take a team photo for use in the GWA yearbook and
other school publicity, as well as offer team and individual pictures for sale to athletes
and parents.
No end-of-the-season banquets are allowed for middle school sports. Teams may have a
party during lunch in the Nicholson Center Concession area, at parent’s expense, on
an approved school day. No awards or gifts of any kind are to be presented, with the
exception of an approved team t-shirt (at parents’ expense). Please have date approved
by Mr. Whitley and facility reserved with Mrs. Tina Jordan
