Addressing the visitors , church’s founder Bishop Mzwandile Qhagana said he overcame many obstacles in life. He said his wife is his pillar of strength. “I was a drunkard. I was always likened to a homeless man. My wife had to put up with all of that. She kept praying for me. I eventually accepted God. She bought my first suit. This is a very special day to me,” he said. His long time friend Bishop James Mpondo said they were very happy to be gathered under one roof in a holy spirit. It’s a nice gesture to have people singing with you. That proves that indeed this is their month,” said Kgotso Makgalema who also performed at Mzansi gospel festival. He said what he liked about the show was that the gospel fanatics responded well to every artist. “But Kholeka, Veliswa and Lusanda received more response than the rest of us. They really made a statement,” he said echoing every artist that Capetonians are very receptive. “Reception here is amazing, great and wow! I don’t know what to say. PERFECTION A CATALYST TO MAKOYA JOYOUS break away Redeemed is making inroads in the gospel industry. Just a year after breaking away from the old Joyous celebration in 1999 Terence Ramatselela, Majalefa Thebe and Rampa Masako released their first single in 2000. They have already bagged in the prestigious Metro Awards. The trio said if it was not their belief in perfection they would have produced countless albums. “It takes three years to cook the best album. Our second album was recorded in 2003 but released in 2006. That is how we do things. We do not rush into things because by doing so we will be failing our audience by releasing half cooked CDs. We are currently working on our next album, God is able.” 8 20 AUG - 3 OCT I WANTED TO SING WOMEN ACCEPT GOD-VELISWA THE first winner of an inaugural SABC’s “I want to sing gospel” competition says singing gospel was always his childhood dream. Lungisani Ntuli of Kwazulu Natal won the competition in 2008 during its inception. He was then recruited by Lindelani Mkhize Entertainment record. He has since produced two albums. His first was Umhlobo Wam in 2009. Followed by Ubahole in 2011. His life has since changed. “I no longer do as I please now. I am a brand. People now respect and look up to me. People pay attention to whatever I say and do,” he says. Ntuli says it is not easy to release an album. “It is really a hard work to produce an album. You sweat all night. That is why we are against piracy. It kills our business while making our efforts futile,” he says. He added that during his motivational and prayer visits to schools he always encourages the youth not to quit school. by: Mike Nkalane A GOSPEL sensation Veliswa Skeyi has encouraged women to accept God if they want to succeed in life. Skeyi who has been singing for the past 14 years has unconditionally thanked people of Cape Town for her successes. “People of Cape Town always welcome me in numbers whenever I perform. I have speaking to the Uplifting Star after her captivating performance at Mzansi gospel show in Cape Town’s Good Hope centre. CHURCH DISPLAYS CHRISTIAN VALUES Mike Nkalane “We practice what we preach. It is no use for the Christians to preach humanity in the pulpit but not embracing it in real life. Our goal is to reach the communities more especially the poor of the poorest,” said Bishop Pamela Mlotywa while handing a grocery and R2 000 cheque to the family that has lost two children in fire. The Kleinsmith family in Heinz Park, Cape Town, have lost their 10 and 7 year-old children in last week’s fire. Rugaya Kleinsmith, mother of the children, said the “inevitable” was meant to happen on that fateful Saturday. “While I was arguing with the father of my kids I could sense something terrible was happening. But I couldn’t care less. After sometime I heard my sister crying. When I went to find out why I found her staring sadly at my children’s lifeless bodies,” she said sobbing. Her sister, Soraya echoed her, she said: “I heard screams from my shack at the back. Barely in no time when I got inside the children were already burnt lying dead. I could not believe my eyes when I saw my lifeless nephews. What is unbelievable was that they were old enough to notice fire and run for their lives.” Rugaya and Soraya said they suspect a candle fell resulting in fire. Their two-roomed RDP house has no electricity. They said they will use the money for a funeral. Bishop Vuyisile Mlotywa and his wife Pamela of Umkhombeka Nowa Gospel Ministry handing over grocery and R2 000 cheque to Soraya and Rugaya Kleinsmith in Heinz Park who have just lost two kids in a fire. The community leader Daniel Minnies said the church has demonstrated true Christianity. He said it was rare in this day and age for someone to lay a helping hand to someone they do not know not to mention from a different race. “Thank you for what you have done for this family. I believe this is God’s grace because you (church) do not even know this family,” he said. He also said his community was accustomed to enduring such hardships in winter as they have no electricity. Mlotywa said it is important for Christians to live up to God’s name. She said if Jesus was still here He would have done the same. 078 4735 028 9 20 AUG - 3 OCT FROM PG 1 DEVOTED WORSHIPPING ENCOURAGED MIKE NKALANE The Open Vision Healing Centre in Boys Town has taken praising and worshipping a step further. Pastor wants his congregation to embrace, dedicate, commit and devote all their time worshipping. Addressing the congregation during their first annual event held at church’s premises Pastor George Joja told them that God told him in his dream that He (God) is not fully worshipped. He said worshipping and praising necessitate an individual to give an undivided attention and dedication to God. “He created us with a sole purpose that of worshipping him. Go beyond that time you pray in your church. Because not everyone connects spiritually then. Create your own praising room in your heart,” he said. Joja urged them to emulate the truly and loyal worshipping of biblical times. “Johosaphat defeated the armies of Moabites, Ammonites and Meunites through worshipping. He bowed down and praised. Then his enemies fought among each other. Selassie and Paulus unlocked prison doors through a dedicated worshipping.” He said in his books, one of the bible writers puts it clear on his scriptTimothy 1: 19 “We need to be clear about who do we worship”. The congregation has pledged to hold a “praise and worshipping” conference. MARKO MAKING A MARK Mike Nkalane CAPE Town based Marko Gospel Singers are making a mark in the gospel music industry. This group consisting of seven members will release its third album in October. Although the group was established in 2006 by 13 members and later decreased to seven that did not deter its spirit. They went on to release their first CD in their debut year. The second one followed in 2008. Another group member Nolusindiso Moniof Kraaifontein who has just released her second album, Nolusindiso boasted: “We are making our mark in the industry. Not only we will be releasing our third album in October. Two members will release their debut solos early next year. That shows we are growing.” 10 20 AUG - 3 OCT EARLY CHRISTMAS AS GENEROUS PASTOR GIVES BACK Mike Nkalane An early Christmas has dawned for the congregation of Christ Healing Fountain. Apostle David Mnapu gave over a million to 145 members with serious problems. Among the beneficiaries were a couple in desperate need of a house, they received R300 000, R120 000 for Thandi for her bond house and R90 000 for cancer patient, Mimi Manaba. Mnapu promised that this is their month of crusade. He said the first and second week are for “power of resurrection”. “Whatever that is dead in you will be resurrected. Unemployed graduates will get their desired jobs. Your CVs will never disappear again,” he gave the undertaking. He said the last week of the month will be dedicated in turning zeros to heroes. He assured them that after relentless prayers everyone will be a master of his/her destination. “You will have that job you have been longing for. Everyone will be rich here as your bank accounts will be filled with monies. You will be cured of whatever your ills are. This is not a joke,” he said. ABAKHAYA MAKE ME FEEL AT HOME “WHENEVER I am in Cape Town I always feel at home because it is full of people back home,” Lusanda Mcinga told the Uplifting Star at a Mzansi gospel festival. Lusanda who has been singing since 1991 said the Capetonians always come in numbers to support her. “Whenever I release an album Cape Town is always first to buy. It is where I make most sales. Not to mention a warm reception,” she said urging women to break the silence. “Quietness leads to silent death.” 11 20 AUG - 3 OCT SCENE AROUND AND ABOUT RFC BISHOP FINO DLAMINI INTRODUCING ARTISTS SINGERS AT MZANSI GOSPEL FESTIVAL SINGERS AT FESTIVAL SHOW SHOW VELISWA AND HIS FANS AT THE GOSPEL FESTIVAL ROBBIE MALINGA AND HIS FAN KHUSTA PERFORMING AT THE FESTIVAL SHOW FANS WERE IMPRESSED NTOKOZO AFTER PERFORMANCE ISRAEL AND HIS FANS AT FESTIVAL GOSPEL FANS THRILLED THEY HAD FUN THEY ENJOYED THEMSELVES MZANSI GOSPEL FESTIVAL MC 12 20 AUG - 3 OCT HAPPY REUNION ENDS A DECADE OF ACRIMONY AFTER a decade of bickering, Mpinga breakaway churches finally called truce on its 40th anniversary recently held in Gugulethu. Just after the death of bishop Sam Dapula famously known by his clan name, Mpinga, a group of disgruntled pastors left their original tent of worshipping in Nyanga’s White City and form their churches. And that has saw his devoted work which started in 1972 vanishing in 1997. It is understood that congregants from those formations were not talking nor greeting. Delivering peaceful words in an emotionally charged service recently held in Gugulethu, a widow mam Nolight Dapula said she has been unable to sleep for more than 10 years. “I have been always asking myself why is this happening after my husband’s death,” she said. She urged all breakaways to forgive each other. Dapula gave the undertaking to play a mediating role. “From now I am asking you to talk, greet and pay visit to each other. Whoever has a problem must feel free to their mother.” She concluded by giving them her blessings for the growth and prosperity of their congregations. All the churches agreed to celebrate their anniversary under one roof. 13 20 AUG - 3 OCT NEWS IN PICTURES AMEN SHE WAS CLEARLY TAKEN ZAKES AND HIS ARTIST CECE WERE INVITED AT LANGA BAPTIST CHURCH MEMBER OF MIRACLE CENTRE AT A CONFERENCE COUPLE SIYABULELA PAPA AND FIANCÉ DURING GOSPEL TIME AT MIRACLE CENTRE GUEST AT THE WOMENS CONFERENCE PASTOR ZONDI PREACHING AT LANGA BAPTIST SHEKAINAH ORGANISED A WOMEN EMPOWERMENT CONFERENCE WOMENS CONFERENCE PASTOR NOSANGE DLAMINI WAS A GUEST AT MIRACLE CENTRE RFC MEMBERS AT THE CONFERENCE MAM JOBE INTRODUCING GUESTS ATTENDING GOD’S ARMY’S IMVUSELELO THAT LASTED FOR A MONTH PASTORS, MAM SIYA PAPA, PASTOR NOSANGE DLAMINI AND MAM PASTOR LIZE 14 20 AUG - 3 OCT ...NEWS IN PICTURES HIGH CONGREGANTS DANCED TO THE MUSIC MOTIVATIONAL AS ATTENDANTS KEPT IN THERE CECE SINGING FOR LANGA BAPTIST CONGREGATION BISHOP ZIKHALI PREACHING AT GOD’S ARMY’S IMVUSELELO HELD AT MEW WAY PASTOR MVINJELO FROM MTHATHA AT HIS ELEMENTS IN GOD’S ARMY’S EVENT NTOKOZO AND HER HUSBAND NTOKOZO PERFORMING AT THE FESTIVAL GREENISH
