TURKEY HUNTING BOOKS NEW AND OUT OF PRINT as of May 1, 2017 Books on turkey hunting continue to appear at a pace which would have been unthinkable a quarter of a century ago. Indeed, although I haven‘t counted, I feel fairly certain that there have been more turkey books published in the last decade than had previously appeared in almost a century (since E. A. McIlhenny‘s The Wild Turkey and Its Hunting appeared in 1914). Here‘s a fully up-to-date list with numerous new items, including plenty of unusual, scarce, or desirable ones. Prices of a number of items where I am overstocked or where values have, in my opinion, changed have been reduced. Where only a single copy is available, it is so noted. Also, I try to obtain signed copies of most new books on turkey hunting as they appear. If I feel a book is interesting, noteworthy, informative, or has a place in a collector‘s library, it will normally go into my list. Imperfections are generally noted with care, although I do not list owner‘s names on inside front covers or end papers. All listings appearing for the first time are marked NEW LISTING. Prices are net. In the U.S., shipping is $5 for first book and $2.50 for each subsequent book up to $12.50. Postage and handling charges are appreciably higher for foreign/international buyers because such shipments can only go by priority mail rate – please contact me for a postage quotation. Insurance is extra and strongly recommended ($2.60 for first $100 and an additional $1.25 for each subsequent $100 in value). I STRONGLY RECOMMEND INSURANCE. I USE QUALITY MATERIALS (BOXES) IN PACKAGING, BUT I KNOW THROUGH HARD EXPERIENCE THAT THE USPS IS LESS THAN TOTALLY PREDICTABLE IN ITS PERFORMANCE. However, they are far less expensive than alternative methods of shipping. Books are shipped USPS Media Mail rate. Payment by personal check, cashier‘s check, money order, or through PayPal. I do not handle credit cards To order or if you have questions, contact Jim Casada, 1250 Yorkdale Dr., Rock Hill, SC 29730 (tel. 803-329-4354), e-mail [email protected], or Web site www.jimcasadaoutdoors.com. Illustrated. This book, along with its predecessor, The Flaming Turkey, has become quite desirable among collectors. There‘s a bit of history here. The author, whom you will discover is an exceptionally talented writer, turned out to be a scoundrel as well. Some of his publishing activities got him permanently kicked out of a national outdoor writers‘ group, saw him resign from a regional group in precipitous fashion to avoid being booted, and the Attorney General‘s office in the state of Mississippi, after investigating his publishing business, issued a ―cease and desist‖ order explicitly banning him from further publishing. Those developments, and some unpaid bills to printers, apparently resulted in short print runs. Hence these books, which are a delight for all the author‘s sordid background, are in considerable demand. $95. 201. Gene Nunnery, I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes Unto the Hills. TURKEY HUNTING ANNUALS Over the years a number of publishers, camo companies, and others have produced turkey hunting ―Annuals.‖ These are a sort of hybrid – not exactly a book but not really a magazine either (although most come in a magazine format). LIMITED EDITION, MATTED AND FRAMED NWTF PRINTS Framed and matted ―Artist of the Year‖ NWTF prints. Each is signed by the artist, each includes a copy of the NWTF stamp for that year, and the matting and framing is toplevel professional quality using acid-neutral materials. You can check major wildlife art galleries and discover that their prices for the print alone (without the stamp or the matting and framing) will be equivalent to or somewhat higher than my asking price. Matting and framing in comparable quality would come to at least $100 for each of these. 1980—Walter Wolfe—―Explosion in Corn‖—136/600 – $500 1981—David Maass—―Majestic Trio‖—136/3200 – $200 1982—Robert Abbett—―Autumn Monarch‖—136/1600 – $150 1984—Richard Plasschaett—―Nature‘s Legacy‖—136/1300 – $250 1985—Ned Smith—―Royal Domain‖—136/1995 – $600 (this is the most desirable and collectible of all NWTF prints and perhaps of all wild turkey prints) 1986—Ken Carlson—―Bearded Bronze‖—136/1500 – $125 1987—Jim Killen—―The Clearing‖—136/1000 – $150 1990—Arthur Anderson—―Spring Blossoms‖—136/1000 – $250 If you want the entire matched numbers set the price is $1800 and I‘ll pay the shipping. Beautifully matted and framed. $175. KEEP UP WITH ALL NEW TURKEY BOOKS I make every effort to keep abreast of the many new books on turkey hunting which come out every year, and when I learn of one I acquire the work, read it, and, if I feel it merits 30 inclusion in the serious hunter‘s library, make every effort to obtain signed copies. I will not stock new books from which I consider highly questionable or from an author on whom I have had multiple troubling reports (there is one such individual busily producing books and selling them on Amazon right now, and I know he has failed to fulfill order and stiffed a number of people). Generally though, I acquire most everything new. Presently there are a number of folks whom I notify each time a new book comes out and who have a standing order for me to acquire it for them. As a rule you will never find a book cheaper than when it is first published. If you would like to be added to this list of ―acquire as issued‖ (you are never obligated to buy but will simply be notified of a new book‘s availability, just drop me an e-mail at [email protected]). 31
