Page 2 The Pueblo Avenue Journal It’s hard to believe that it’s only been four months since Emilie Parchim began working at Piner’s Nursing Home as an activities assistant. She has made a huge impact in the lives of our Elders and in the Activities Department itself. You might know her for her larger-thanlife personality, infectious laugh and beaming smile. We know Emilie Parchim her for being reliable, creative, Activities Assistant unshakeable, and having a huge heart. So it was no surprise that she was chosen as our Employee of the Month for December 2016. individual amongst the wonderful team I work with.” When Emilie heard that she had been chosen for this award, she felt, “completely overwhelmed with gratitude. I was honored to know that I was chosen as an Emilie, we are truly blessed to have you as a part of the Piner’s family! Thank you for giving so much of yourself to make life better for our Elders. Congratulations! Hayward Cloud was chosen as the winner out of all 2016 Employee of the Month winners. Hayward may be new to us this year, but has quickly taken on a variety of jobs. Always a team player, even when jobs get dirty, uncomfortable, or thankless. Elders rang in the New Year a little early last December 31st. Our 3pm New Year’s Eve Party was complete with cookies, sparkling cider, hats and noisemakers. January 8 was Elvis’s birthday, and we reminisced and remembered with a little Elvis sing-a-long. January 13 was the birthday of the Frisbee. To celebrate, we made our own homemade versions of the classic toy a few days before, and flew them on the 13th. Pooh Day (as in Winnie the Pooh) was on January 18, and we enjoyed some Winnie the Pooh stories and trivia. National Hat Day was on January 20. We saw baseball Emilie is valued by her co-workers for her ability to “go with the flow”. She is constantly constantly engaging Elders in various activities and makes sure to include everyone—no matter what! Family members admire how she cares for their loved ones. When Emilie isn’t working, she enjoys jelly and jam making, motorcycle riding, and arts and crafts. She grew up locally, in St. Helena. Her favorite childhood memories are of her grandmother. “She gave me the tools for life. I am the person I am today because of God and my grandmother.” Also important in Emilie’s life is her daughter, Elizabeth, who she says is, “the most amazing woman in my life. She is outgoing, talented, beautiful, and true to herself. She is the air that I breathe.” Nothing seems to stop his drive to get the job done. Please congratulate Hayward as we thank him for his hard work this year. Congratulations!!! caps, fedoras, and even a couple of skunk hats. For Backwards Day on January 27, we had fun dressing backwards, having a backwards schedule (our morning and afternoon activities were swapped), and enjoying a little bit of Pineapple Upside-Down Cake.
