ADDRESS, PHONE AND MAILING INFORMATION
Our Summer Residence is located at Seattle Pacific University’s Hill Hall (building #36 on the
SPU campus map at http://spu.edu/info/maps/index.asp). Hill Hall is located at 3231 6th Avenue
West, between West Cremona and West Dravus Streets on the SPU campus. DO NOT send
mail to that address. Instead, all student mail and parcels should be sent to:
Seattle Pacific University
3307 3rd Avenue West, Suite 312
PNB – [Student Name]
Seattle, WA 98119-1957
The parking lot is behind the building, off 7th Avenue West. Information on the floor plan and
room layouts may be viewed at http://www.spu.edu/depts/reslife/halls/hill.asp.
Each student is strongly encouraged to bring his or her own cellular phone, which makes it easy
to stay in contact both with home and with the Residence staff.
The primary phone number to contact PNB Summer Residence staff is 206-488-7703, which
is a cellular phone carried by the Residence Counselors on duty at all times during waking
hours. Postcards with contact information for the specific Residence Counselors assigned to
each student will be mailed to parents at the home address on file by the first day of the
Summer Course. These Group Counselors will give their cell phone numbers to their group
members at the first house meeting. The Group Counselors are parents’ primary
contacts for specific questions or concerns about their children.
12
The Residence Director, David Jensen, may also be reached at [email protected] or by cellular
phone at 206-353-8400 in an emergency (day or night) or for general questions about the
Residence and student life, either before or during the Summer Course. Dave’s phone number
and the Residence staff phone number will be printed on the back of each student’s Residence
identification. We strongly suggest that students program the Residence staff phone
number and Dave’s number, as well as the School office number (206-441-2435),
into their cell phones before leaving home for Seattle. Once students meet their
assigned Group Counselors at the first House Meeting, they should immediately program their
counselors’ numbers into their phones as well.
Documents for the Residence staff, such as permission slips, may be faxed to 206-441-2430 or
e-mailed to [email protected]. Faxes must be sent at least 24 hours in advance of the time they
are needed in order to allow time to get them from the School office to the Residence staff.
WHO’S WHO AT THE RESIDENCE
The Residence staff is comprised of fourteen full-time adult employees including the Residence
Director, Assistant Residence Director, and twelve Residence Counselors, all living in the
Residence for the duration of the Summer Course. We also have several additional relief
counselors (all former Residence Counselors) who assist with extra supervision and support as
needed.
Residence Director: David Jensen (phone: 206-353-8400, e-mail: [email protected])
Assistant Residence Director: Patrick Cho
Residence Counselors: Kirsten Allman, Juanita Araque, Kayleigh Danowski, Ezra Dickinson,
Christian Griggs-Drane, Taylor Ottley, Laurel Simon, Elisabeth Staal, Hannah Strauch, Alanna
Swovelin, Julia Turner, and Julianne Zilahy
Relief Counselors: Sasha Habash, Deborah Kenner, and Tory Peil
All Residence staff members are selected on the basis of their experience in dance, athletics or
the arts, their interpersonal skills, and their expertise in working with adolescents. They
undergo comprehensive training prior to the students’ arrival. Residence Director Dave Jensen
is a Washington state certified teacher returning for his 22nd PNB Summer Course; Assistant
Residence Director Patrick Cho is also a certified teacher and is returning for his 16th summer.
The Residence Counselors are all college students, graduates, or current or former professional
dancers. Nearly half are former PNB students themselves, and half are returning for at least
their second summer. All staff members have passed a criminal background check and are
certified in CPR and First Aid.
Each student will be assigned to a student group with two or three Group Counselors who live
on the same floor as their groups. Although students are welcome and encouraged to talk to
any Residence staff member about anything at any time, they will see their own Group
Counselors to check in at dinner each night, for nightly room checks, and to check in at house
meetings.
PNB Summer Residence Facebook Group
To allow our Residence students to get to know one another before arrival, we have set up a
Facebook group called “PNB Summer Residence 2016.” This group is moderated by PNB staff,
and membership in the group is by request. Only current Summer Course students staying in
13
the Residence will be permitted to join. https://www.facebook.com/groups/221356581560006/
or search Facebook for “PNB Summer Residence 2016.” Parents of 12- or 13-year old students,
who are not old enough to have Facebook accounts, may join for their child by submitting a
Facebook request to join the group using their own account and then following up with an email to the Residence Director at [email protected], identifying their Facebook profile and their
child’s name. Students whose Facebook name does not exactly match the name under which
they are registered with PNB will also need to e-mail the Residence Director to identify
themselves after submitting their request to join the group.
Nametags
Because we want everyone in the Residence to know everyone else as quickly as possible,
students and staff are required to wear their nametags at all times in the Residence for the first
two weeks. PNB lanyards and nametags must be worn to all meals in Gwinn
Commons throughout the Summer Course. Students who lose their nametags will be
required to make a temporary replacement tag and should report the loss to their Group
Counselor so a replacement can be made at no charge.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Seattle Pacific University is located in a quiet residential area on the north side of Seattle’s
Queen Anne Hill. The campus itself is safe and has plenty of open spaces for games of Frisbee,
relaxing in the sun, or reading under a tree. It is within walking distance of the Fremont
neighborhood, known for its artists, funky clothing stores, and other shops and restaurants. An
easy bus ride away, halfway between the Residence and the Studio, is the Hilltop
neighborhood, with grocery stores, restaurants, a public swimming pool, and other businesses.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
Move-In and Move-Out Times
All students should plan to arrive at the Residence on Sunday, July 10th between 11:00 a.m. and
6:00 p.m., and plan to leave on the morning of Saturday, August 13th.
Moving In
Check-in will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 10th at the Hill Hall front desk. SPU Conference
Services staff will be assisting the PNB Residence staff with check-in, where students will receive
their SPU access/meal card, Metro bus pass, and room key. No meals will be served until dinner
at 5:30. Family members who wish to join us for dinner that night are welcome to do
so; however, you must notify the Residence Director (206-353-8400 or
[email protected]) of the number of additional dinner guests by June 15th. Non-resident
guests must pay the SPU Food Services cashier upon entry; dinner will be approximately $16 per
guest (cash only). There will be an orientation meeting in Upper Gwinn (upstairs from the dining
hall, #10 on the campus map) at 7:00. Attendance is required for all Residence students. Family
members may also attend, but there will be little of interest to non-students. We know everyone
is tired and excited, so this meeting will cover only the bare essentials about breakfast, the bus,
and getting to the studio the next morning.
14
Moving Out
Classes do not end early on the final Friday of the Summer Course, so students generally prefer
to leave on Saturday morning to allow ample time for goodbyes. Breakfast will be served at the
usual time on Saturday and will be the last meal provided. All students must be out of the
Residence by 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 13th.
Airport Shuttle
PNB School provides optional chaperoned shuttle vans to and from Seattle-Tacoma
International Airport on move-in and move-out days. PNB School shuttles will run on Sunday,
July 10th (move-in day) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, August 13th (move-out day)
from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m. On move-in day, PNB staff will be waiting for our students at Baggage
Claim, with several staff members circulating and one stationed near Door 20, adjacent to
Baggage Carousel 14. On move-out day, they will be in the ticketing area to assist our students
as needed. They will carry signs and wear purple PNB School lanyards with photo ID badges
and yellow shirts imprinted “PNBS” to identify them as PNB School staff members. Upon arriving
at Baggage Claim on move-in day, students should contact one of these staff members to assist
with baggage retrieval and escort the student to a PNB van. On move-out day, staff members will
meet each van as it arrives at the airport, assist students with checking in, and accompany them
to the security checkpoint. The fee for this service is $45 one-way or $80 round-trip per person.
On move-in and move-out day, PNB School CANNOT provide transportation for students arriving
or departing outside these hours. Please schedule flights accordingly.
Students Arriving/Departing During the Summer Course
During the Summer Course, transportation to and from the airport by Residence staff is available
for students who have made special arrangements with the School to arrive late or leave early or
for those who experience family emergencies. Such transportation will be provided for the same
fee as our regular shuttle service. The staff member driving the student will assist him/her with
checking in or baggage claim. Please contact the Residence Director (206-353-8400 or
[email protected]) to make arrangements.
Family Accommodations
For parents who are accompanying their students to Seattle and require accommodations in the
area, lodgings near the PNB studios may be found at https://www.pnb.org/season/plan-yourvisit/local-lodging/.
What to Bring or Send
Students may send boxes in advance to be waiting for them in their rooms when they arrive.
These packages should be sent to the SPU address above, not the PNB School address on
Mercer Street. Please send them to arrive between June 27th and July 8th. SPU does not accept
Saturday deliveries. When shipping your packages you should request delivery confirmation, as
PNB staff will not be able to verify their delivery at SPU. Students should try to limit the amount
of luggage they bring, as the tendency is always to overpack. However, a few favorite pictures,
a stuffed animal, or other decorations will make your Residence room more comfortable. A
swimsuit and a dressy outfit or two will prepare you for a range of activities. Good walking
shoes are a must; the SPU campus is hilly and flip-flops can easily result in tripping and injuries.
Jewelry and other valuables are best left at home. There is a safe in the Staff Office where the
Residence staff will keep students’ cash or important documents. Any staff member can access
these items for students at any time.
15
All Residence students are required to arrive at the Summer Course with (or ship ahead) a
personal emergency kit containing the following:
 a small flashlight with fresh batteries installed
 three days’ supply of any needed medications (separate from the supply they bring for
daily use)
 an emergency blanket (mylar or yellow plastic type, available at sporting goods or
outdoor supply stores for around $5, or at www.rei.com, item #407104)
These items are to be in a container such as a Ziploc bag, labeled with the student’s name.
They will be collected at check-in and placed with the Residence emergency supplies. They will
be returned to the student at the end of the Summer Course. We suggest students also carry a
similar kit in their dance bag.
You will also need a combination lock for your locker at the studio. You may wish to bring a few
games, a deck of cards, books, or other activities you may want over the five weeks. Because it
is easy for things to disappear in any group living environment, we strongly recommend that
you keep your room locked at all times. All possessions, including all clothes and
dancewear, should be clearly marked with your name. PNB School is not responsible for
lost items. Lending money, clothes, or any other possessions to another student is done at your
own risk.
The Residence staff will arrange for a United Parcel Service pickup on the Monday after
Summer Course ends. Before leaving, students will be able to box up items to ship home using
a credit or debit card. Boxes will be available for purchase from Residence staff, and packaging
tape will be provided at no charge. Students who prefer to use a shipper other than U.P.S. must
make their own shipping arrangements.
TRANSPORTATION
PNB School arranges special buses through King County Metro, working in conjunction with our
own school bus to make three daily round-trips Monday through Saturday (with special trips for
added classes). The buses transport our students directly between the Seattle Pacific University
campus and the Phelps Center. The buses leave SPU at 7:50, 9:10, and 10:30 a.m. (9:10,
10:30, and 12:10 Saturday) and leave the Phelps Center at 3:40, 4:40 and 5:40 p.m. (11:40,
12:40, 2:10, 3:40, and 4:40 Saturday). This preliminary schedule may have changed by the
time Summer Course begins; the correct schedule will always be posted at the Residence and
the School. An extra trip will be added for the occasional extra class scheduled. The ride is
approximately 10 minutes. All Residence students receive a Metro bus pass (included in the
housing fee). In addition to the PNB Special route, this pass may also be used for all regular
Metro service. Some students find it more convenient to ride Metro’s regularly scheduled #13
bus, which leaves SPU about every 15 minutes and takes approximately 15 minutes to reach its
stop at Queen Anne Avenue and Mercer Street, three blocks west of the Phelps Center.
16
Motor Vehicles
Students may occasionally be transported in Residence Staff members’ personal vehicles (in case
of illness, doctor appointment, emergency, etc.). All staff members carrying student passengers
are licensed and fully insured. PNB’s airport shuttles, school bus and charter buses are operated
only by commercially licensed drivers with the appropriate passenger endorsements.
Residence students may not bring or operate a motor vehicle while attending the Summer
Course unless arrangements are made with the PNB School Administrative Director prior to the
program. Even where such arrangements have been made, the student may not transport any
other PNB student in his/her vehicle at any time. Residence students are not permitted to ride
in or on any motor vehicle with anyone other than immediate family members or PNB staff
members unless written permission is on file with the Residence Director (taxis, buses, and appbased shared-ride services such as Uber and Lyft excepted).
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
Fire exits are clearly marked and escape routes from the Residence are posted. Please take a
few moments to familiarize yourselves with them. A mandatory safety meeting which includes
evacuation information will be held at the Residence on the second day of the Summer Course.
If an emergency evacuation order is given on the Seattle Center Campus, all staff, faculty,
students and guests will immediately leave The Phelps Center and walk directly to the Hampton
Inn, 700 5th Avenue North (three blocks northeast of The Phelps Center). A message will be
posted on the front door of the Phelps Center and placed on the Pacific Northwest Ballet and
PNB School phone systems (206-441-9411, 206-441-2435) as well as on the Residence
Director’s cellular phone (206-353-8400) and the Residence staff phone (206-488-7703) if those
phones are in operation. PNB faculty and staff members will remain at the Hampton Inn until all
students have been transported to the Residence.
In the event that Hill Hall must be evacuated, all staff and students will go immediately to the
Gwinn Commons/Crossroads dining hall or to another location on campus as directed by Seattle
Pacific University administration or emergency services personnel. This information will be
posted at the Residence and on the Company, School, Residence, and Residence Director’s
phones.
LIVING IN THE SUMMER RESIDENCE
Our summer home is in Hill Hall, which is a secure building (requiring a key card for access) on
the SPU campus just steps from Gwinn Commons/Crossroads Dining Hall (#10 on the campus
map), where our meals will be served, and a minute’s walk from Demaray Hall (#8 on the
map), where some house meetings are held, as well as the bus stop (on W. Bertona Street in
front of building #40). PNB students and staff will be the only occupants of Hill Hall. Female
students’ and counselors’ rooms will be in the north wing and 3rd floor of the south wing; male
students’ and counselors’ rooms are on the 5th and 6th floors of the south wing.
Residence Rooms
The rooms are typical college dormitory rooms with bed, closet, desk, chair, desk light, and
carpeted floors. Some rooms have bunk beds, while others have twin beds. Students may wish
17
to bring pictures, posters, etc., to decorate their rooms. Please note that only painters’ masking
tape (the blue kind) may be used to hang things on the walls. Any damage to rooms, walls or
furniture will be billed to students/parents at the end of the Summer Course. Counselors may
enter a student’s room to inspect for damage at any time they believe it is warranted.
Do be aware that SPU does not have screens on their dormitory windows. The Pacific
Northwest is a fairly bug-free area, but students who are very susceptible to insect bites may
wish to bring their preferred brand of insect repellent or sleep with their windows closed.
No members of the opposite sex are allowed in student rooms or halls at any time (except
Residence staff and family members assisting on move-in and move-out days). Students must
sleep in their assigned rooms. The SPU custodial staff cleans the bathrooms and common areas,
but not students’ individual rooms. Each student is responsible for the cleanliness and
maintenance of his or her room. Vacuum cleaners are available for student use. Students
should follow Residence staff directions for putting the wastebaskets and recycle bins from their
rooms in the hallway to be emptied on designated days.
Roommate Assignments
Roommates and placement by floor are assigned strictly by gender and date of birth.
Roommate assignments and information are not available until students arrive at the program.
Roommate Requests
Most rooms are doubles (two students), but there are a few triple rooms. PNB School may
assign students to either a double or triple. Requests for specific roommates must be submitted
on the Roommate/Single Room Request form and received by June 1st. The form must signed
by the student (and parent if the student is under 18). Matching requests must be received
from both (or all three) students; PNB assumes anyone not returning a form does not want a
specific roommate. All roommates should check to make sure everyone has turned in their
requests. Students requesting specific roommates will be placed based on the age of the
younger student. Be aware that all triple rooms are furnished with a bunk and a twin bed.
Single Rooms
A limited number of single rooms are available for an additional charge of $450. Please return
the signed Roommate/Single Room Request form by June 1st to reserve a single room. Such
requests will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis if a single room is available.
Bathrooms
Each floor has its own single-sex communal bathroom. Students must provide their own soap,
shampoo, and towels. Bathrooms are cleaned Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays by SPU
custodial staff.
Room Keys, Meal Cards and Bus Passes
We strongly suggest students keep their rooms locked at all times; PNB is not responsible for
lost or stolen items. PNB provides each student with a lanyard for his/her key, access/meal card
and Metro bus pass; please carry them at all times. You will need your access card to enter Hill
Hall and your key to enter your wing and your room. You will be charged a replacement fee of
$125 for any key and $25 for any access/meal card you lose, damage or fail to return at checkout. Replacement Metro passes are available from the Residence Director at PNB’s pro-rated
18
cost. If you lock your keys in your room, the counselors on duty can let you in with a master
key. On arrival, when you receive your key, it will have a red SPU key tag with your room
number on it. Please remove this tag and keep it in the SPU envelope in your desk drawer until
you turn in your key at the end of the Summer Course.
House Meetings
Mandatory all-house meetings are held in Upper Gwinn or Demaray Hall at 7:00 every Monday
evening. Everyone MUST attend; attendance will be taken. There will also be a brief orientation
meeting at 7:00 on move-in day and a group photo followed by a safety meeting at 7:00 on
Tuesday, July 12th. Additional meetings may be called as needed. We will be covering a variety
of important topics concerning all residents. Each meeting will be as brief as possible while still
covering all necessary information.
Daily Bulletin
There is an easel at the main entrance to Hill Hall which is updated daily with information such
as event times, bus schedule changes, and other important news. Students are responsible for
being aware of all information posted there and should make a habit of checking it each time
they enter or leave the Residence.
Fire Hazards
Candles, incense, and any open flame (including matches and lighters) are prohibited in all
campus buildings. Students needing to burn their pointe shoe ribbons must do so outside and
away from all buildings. The use of Hot Stuff or “jet glue” for pointe shoes is prohibited inside
all buildings as well. (These rules also apply to the Phelps Center.)
Staff Office & Counselors’ Rooms
The Staff Office is located on the main (third) floor, near the front desk. Each counselor’s room
is located among the rooms of the students in his or her group. The Residence Director’s room
is #306, on the main floor near the Staff Office. Students are welcome to speak to their
counselors or the Residence Director at any time, whether they are in the office or in their
rooms.
Bedding
Mattresses are extra-long twin size (also called “dorm twin”). Bedding is not provided. Students
must provide their own mattress pad, sheets, pillow(s), blanket(s), and (if desired) a
bedspread.
Internet Access
Students are welcome to bring their laptops for use in the Residence. Wired Ethernet access is
available in each room and the building also has wireless internet access. SPU staff will provide
login information at check-in. PNB provides two laptop computers in the main lounge for the
use of those students who do not bring their own laptops or tablets. Students are expected to
limit their use of these computers to 15 minutes when others are waiting. Students must follow
PNB School’s Internet policy, found elsewhere in this handbook.
19
Television
All student lounges and rooms have cable TV access. TVs, VCRs, and DVD players will be
available in the lounges for student use on a first-come, first-served basis. The main TV lounge
will be used for all movie nights organized by the Residence staff.
Single-Sex and Co-Ed Areas
Each single-sex living floor has its own lounge for students of that floor’s gender only. Students
using the lounge are expected to clean up after themselves or the lounges may be closed. In
addition to the main floor TV room, there is a co-ed lounge on the main floor and another on
the north wing of the 4th floor, where there are no student rooms. The 5th and 6th floors of the
north wing are off-limits to female students at all times, and the entire south wing as well as
the 3rd floor of the north wing are off-limits to male students. All off-limits areas are clearly
marked.
Laundry Facilities
There are two laundry rooms: one exclusively for female students on the south wing of the 2nd
floor and one for both male and female students on the north wing of the 4th floor, where there
are no student rooms. (The ice machine is also located in this laundry room.) The washers and
dryers are coin-operated; the price is $1.25 to wash and $1.25 to dry. Quarters (loose or in rolls
of $10) are available in the Staff Office from the counselors on duty. Detergent may be
purchased locally from stores along the bus line or near the Phelps Center.
Lost and Found
Items left lying around the Residence will be placed in Lost and Found, located in the Staff
Office. Ask a counselor if you would like to look for a missing item. To encourage us all to pick
up after ourselves, there is a 25¢ charge to claim an item from Lost and Found. This charge
applies to both students and staff.
Mailing Services
SPU’s campus post office is located at 323 W. Nickerson Street (building #78 on campus map)
and is open Monday-Friday from 8-5. There is an outgoing mail box in the lobby of the
Residence (collected Monday through Friday) and stamps may be purchased from the
counselors on duty in the Dorm Store.
Campus Security
The SPU campus and dorms are patrolled 24 hours a day by uniformed security officers. SPU’s
Campus Safety and Security office is open 24 hours per day and is located at 601 West
Emerson Street (building #61 on campus map), just one block down from our Residence. Their
general phone number is 206-281-2922 and their emergency number from a campus phone is
2-911.
Library
The Library (building #14 on campus map) is located just across from the Gwinn Commons
dining hall. Library hours are Monday-Thursday 8:00 to 8:00, Friday 8:00 to 6:00, and Saturday
10:00 to 6:00.
20
Other Campus Facilities
The campus convenience store, bookstore, bank branch (U.S. Bank), cash machine, and
computer labs are also available for the use of PNB Summer Course students.
MEAL TIMES AND FOOD
Meals will be served in the Gwinn Commons/Crossroads dining facility (building #10 on campus
map), about 100 yards from the Residence. Meal times are as follows:
Breakfast:
7:00 to 8:30 Monday – Friday
7:30 to 8:30 Saturday – Sunday
Lunch (Sunday only): 12:00 to 1:00
Dinner:
5:30 to 6:30 daily
Meal times will be extended when there are large numbers of other groups on campus. An
updated meal schedule will be posted online each week. Students make their own sack lunches
from the lunch buffet during breakfast. We will often be sharing the dining area with other
conference groups, so please be considerate and dress appropriately. Be sure to bus your tables
and pick up after yourselves in the dining room and all other campus areas.
Although all meals in the dining hall are all-you-can-eat, please note that SPU Food Services
strictly prohibits taking any food or beverage out of the dining hall. We have arranged a special
exception in order to allow our students to pack their own lunches, but the exception applies
only at breakfast Monday through Saturday, and anything taken out during those meals must
be inside your lunch bag. No food may be taken out of the dining hall during dinner or Sunday
meals.
Breakfast always includes a hot option, as well as toast, cereal, fruit, yogurt, etc. Dinners
include at least two main course options, salad bar, grilled choices such as hamburgers, veggie
burgers, or grilled sandwiches, pizza bar, pasta bar, and desserts, as well as other rotating
selections. Milk, juice, tea, coffee and other beverage options are served at all meals. All
options are labeled for allergens and every meal includes vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Refrigerators
There is a full-sized refrigerator/freezer in the lounge on each wing of every floor where
students may keep their own food. Food items should be labeled with the student’s name.
Taking another student’s food is theft and will be dealt with as such.
Dorm Store
The PNB Residence staff maintains a Dorm Store in the staff office where students may
purchase basic snack foods such as instant noodles, hot and cold cereal, granola bars, chips,
juice, bottled water, milk, and soft drinks from the counselors on duty. Proceeds help support
PNB Summer Residence activities.
21
INJURIES AND ILLNESSES
All injuries and illnesses MUST be reported to one of the counselors on duty at the Residence.
If you will miss class because of illness or injury you must make sure that the School staff is
notified of your absence prior to the class. Should you awaken to find yourself too ill to attend
class, notify the counselors on duty before or during breakfast, in person or by calling the staff
phone. We will notify the School for you. If an injury occurs in class, notify the instructor, a
School staff member, and a Residence Counselor as soon as possible. In addition, please notify
a staff member if you are taking any medications.
If your injury permits, you should attend class. Even if you cannot participate, you will still
benefit from observing. Students who are ill should NOT attend class and will be expected to
rest quietly in bed all day to ensure a speedy recovery. No TV watching will be permitted.
Residence staff will make arrangements to bring you your lunch. Students who miss class due
to illness may not, of course, check out of the Residence that day or evening.
Ice is available in the Residence 24 hours a day. Medications and reusable ice packs may also
be kept in the refrigerator/freezers in the student lounges. Please empty your ice bags outside
or into a sink before throwing them in the garbage.
All transportation to appointments with doctors or therapists will be provided by off-duty
Residence Counselors.
Medical Facilities and Services
For primary care needs, Residence staff members will take students to one of the doctors at
Swedish Medical Center – Queen Anne (206-861-8500) or Immediate Clinic Urgent Care (206283-9310). Acute care is handled by the emergency room at Children’s Hospital and Medical
Center (206-526-2222) or (for 18 year old students) the University of Washington Medical
Center (206-598-4000). Students should let a counselor know when they need to see a doctor;
we don’t know you as well as your parents and it may not be obvious to us that you are not
feeling well if you do not tell us. A counselor will schedule the appointment with the appropriate
doctor, provide transportation and accompany you into the examination room (if you wish). We
ask that parents NOT make appointments for their children. If your child needs to see a doctor,
he or she should speak to a counselor. Parents are, of course, encouraged to speak to the
counselor as well.
Prescriptions for students should be called in to the Bartell Drugs store on Lower Queen Anne
(206-284-1354). If your insurer requires a national chain store, please use the Walgreen’s store
in Ballard (206-781-0056). These stores are both open 24 hours and the Residence staff can
get to them easily.
Students needing to see an orthodontist for emergency repairs or replacement of lost
appliances should see a Residence staff member for an appointment with our preferred
orthodontist, Dr. Nelson.
The Residence staff and School staff work closely with one another to ensure that every
student’s needs are met. The services of our consulting psychologist, nutritionist, physical
therapist, and podiatrist are available to our Summer Course students; students who wish to
see one of these professionals should speak to the Residence Director or any staff member in
22
the School office. The PNB School staff’s primary concern is the well-being of our students.
Parents and students are encouraged to contact any staff member at any time
during the Summer Course if they have any questions or concerns regarding
Residence life or the Summer Course in general.
SPENDING MONEY
Students must be responsible for their own money; the School and Residence do not cash
checks. A debit card or ATM card is strongly recommended, as it may be difficult to cash
traveler’s checks or out-of-town checks at local banks. Students should avoid lending money to
other students; the School and Residence staff will not act as intermediaries in recovering
borrowed money. Students who bring large amounts of cash are advised to give it to a
counselor to place in the Staff Office safe, where it will be signed out to the student as needed.
ACTIVITIES
In-house movie nights, parties, birthday celebrations, the Dorm Dance, and other in-house
events are included in the housing fee. However, because many students prefer to plan their
own activities, PNB does not include the cost of other activities in its housing charges. Students
should bring enough spending money to cover the costs of spontaneous activities. We have a
full schedule of optional evening and weekend activities planned (see the Residence Activities
Guide at the end of this Handbook). Please note that many of these events require preregistration by June 1st using the form provided in your packet. The time and location of each
activity will be announced and posted on the Daily Bulletin. Students must be on time; there are
no refunds for students who miss the bus. Note that some activities are away from the
Residence at mealtimes; students will need to buy their own food at these events unless food is
included as part of the activity package. There will be a buy/sell/trade board in the Residence
where students may exchange tickets among themselves. Such exchanges must be reported to
the Residence Director for attendance purposes. Students who pre-order tickets to the optional
activities will receive their ticket envelopes at the first house meeting. Students are responsible
for checking their envelopes for accuracy and reporting any missing tickets to the Residence
Director by the end of the first week of the program. No adjustments will be made after that
date.
The Residence is stocked with board games, jigsaw puzzles, Twister mats, and basic art
supplies and sports equipment for students’ use. An optional Craft Night is offered on Thursday
evenings; there may be a small fee of a few dollars to cover the cost of craft materials. All
planned activities are chaperoned by PNB staff. Off-duty counselors are usually available to
chaperone impromptu activities planned by students. Groups of 5-55 students who plan their
own activities may arrange transportation at a nominal fee in PNB’s van (the Bunheadmobile) or
bus on a first-come, first-served basis. The fee will be based on distance and will not exceed $5
per person, round-trip. Each student must pay his or her fare before boarding.
23
RESIDENCE RULES
Group living requires extra thoughtfulness and cooperation. Many students may feel they have
less freedom in the Residence than they do at home; however, thes rules are necessary to
ensure the safety and well-being of all students, as well as ensuring the smooth functioning of
the Residence. If any student anticipates difficulties in complying with these rules, s/he should
make other housing arrangements for the Summer Course.
Tell Us Where You Are
It is your responsibility to account for your presence and whereabouts. It is not necessary to
sign out in the morning as you leave for class. However, you should still be with a buddy at all
times. Likewise, if you are going to the Gwinn Commons/Crossroads dining hall, you need not
sign out. If you plan to leave the Residence after class, you must be part of a group of the
appropriate size (see below) and must sign out with the on-duty counselors. You must inform
the counselors where you are going, with whom, and when you plan to return. You will be
allowed to check out only if the counselors feel your plans are safe and reasonable. Students
under the age of 18 will not be allowed to sign out overnight or for a weekend without prior
written permission from your parent or guardian. Students with such permission (and students
aged 18) must let the staff know where you are going, a phone number where you can be
reached, and when you will be back.
Downtown Seattle is off limits after 8:00 p.m. This includes Pioneer Square, the International
District, and the waterfront.
Checking Out of the Residence
For your safety, students may check out of the Residence only in groups. The group sizes are
as follows, based on the age of the youngest student in the group:
Age 12-14, three or more people
Age 15-17, two or more people
Age 18 may check out alone
Checking Out of the Phelps Center
If you leave the Phelps Center at any time, for any destination other than returning directly to
the Residence, you must sign out on the clipboard located near the Phelps Center front door.
This includes leaving for lunch, visiting the Seattle Center grounds, or stopping somewhere on
the way back to the Residence. Group sizes are the same as those for checking out of the
Residence. Please indicate clearly who is in your group, and be sure to check back in if you are
returning to the Phelps Center.
Checking Out Overnight or with a Non-Resident
Students under 18 who wish to check out of the Residence overnight or with a non-resident
(family friend, relative, local PNB School student or parent, etc.) may do so only if the
Residence staff has prior written parental consent on file. It must include the name, address,
and phone number of the person with whom the student may leave the Residence and the
applicable date(s). 18-year-old students must provide the same information, but do not require
their parents’ consent. A letter containing all of the above information is acceptable, or forms
may be found at the end of this Handbook. Upon the authorized person’s arrival at the
Residence, the student and the authorized person must check out in person with the counselors
24
on duty. (If checking out from the School office, they must speak to a member of the office
staff, who will call the Residence to confirm.) To ensure students’ safety, PNB staff will check
the identification of anyone, including parents, attempting to leave the Residence or the Phelps
Center with a student. Students must check in with the counselors on duty immediately upon
returning to the Residence.
Dress Code
No visible dancewear may be worn outside the PNB studio or Hill Hall. You must wear street
clothes (or street clothes completely covering your dancewear) when out in public, including
Gwinn Commons and outdoors on the SPU and Seattle Center campuses. Out of respect for
their other summer conference guests, SPU also requests that students dress modestly during
meals in Gwinn Commons.
Evening Check-In
Each student must check in with his or her Group Counselor between 5:30 and 6:00 every
evening on both weekdays and weekends.
When You Must Be Back at the Residence (Curfew)
Curfews are as follows, again based on the age of the youngest in the group:
Sunday through Thursday
Age 12-14, 9:00 p.m.
Age 15-17, 9:30 p.m.
Age 18, 10:00 p.m.
Friday and Saturday
Age 12-14, 10:00 p.m.
Age 15-17, 11:00 p.m.
Age 18, 12:00 a.m.
Special later curfew privileges may only be arranged ahead of time if the Residence staff has
complete destination and return information. Such exceptions are at the discretion of the
Residence staff, and no extensions will be granted during the first week.
Room Checks
All students not signed-out must be in their rooms from 9:30 to 9:45 for room checks. Once
room checks have been completed, students may leave their rooms, but may not go outside or
leave the Residence unless accompanied by a member of the Residence staff.
Quiet Hours
Quiet hours are enforced throughout the Residence beginning at 10:00 p.m. and remain in
effect until 7:30 a.m. on weekdays and 9:00 a.m. on weekends. During quiet hours, there is no
piano playing, running, loud music, loud talking, or excessive noise.
Lights Out
All TVs will be turned off and all students must be off the Residence computers and out of the
laundry rooms 15 minutes before lights out. All students must be in their own rooms, in bed,
with their lights out at 11:00 p.m. (Sunday through Thursday) or 12:00 a.m. (Friday and
25
Saturday). Lights out means lights out: no flashlights, no reading lights, etc. Computers, ereaders, tablets, and cell phones must be turned off and students may not make or receive
phone calls, e-mails, instant messages or text messages. In an emergency, a student may be
reached by calling the Residence staff (during waking hours) or Residence Director (24 hours a
day).
Outside
It is not necessary to sign out if you will be staying in the SPU campus area between Hill Hall
and the Gwinn Commons/Crossroads dining hall, but please use the buddy system. You must
sign out if you are going to any other buildings on campus, such as the library or the gym. For
safety reasons, all students on campus must be inside Hill Hall by 10:30 unless accompanied by
a member of the Residence staff. Students may never prop open outside doors for any reason.
Students must use marked crosswalks at all times, both on campus and elsewhere in the city.
Visitors
All visitors to the Residence, including family members, must check in with the counselors on
duty. After checking in, visitors are allowed only in the central area of the main floor. Visitors
are not allowed into the north or south wing at any time (except family members helping on
move-in or move-out day). No overnight guests are allowed. Guests may join Residence
students in the cafeteria to eat, but must pay SPU Food Services for their meals. While in the
Residence, guests must abide by all house rules. All visitors must be out of the building by
10:00 p.m.
Pets
Absolutely no animals are allowed in the Residence, including fish in bowls.
Public Displays of Affection (PDA)
Public displays of affection create an uncomfortable and awkward situation for others and are
therefore prohibited.
Off-Limits Areas
The Staff Office and all counselors’ rooms are off-limits to students unless accompanied by a
counselor. All unoccupied rooms and hallways are off-limits, and certain other areas of the
Residence may also be designated as off-limits and will be clearly marked.
Single-Sex Areas
Any student in an area designated exclusively for the opposite sex will face disciplinary action
up to and including expulsion from the Summer Course.
Bullying, Intimidation, and Harassment
PNB School strives to create an atmosphere of collegiality, not competition. Bullying, physical or
verbal intimidation, and harassment of any kind, including cyber-bullying and sexual
harassment, will not be tolerated. Students engaging in such conduct will face disciplinary
action up to and including expulsion from the Summer Course.
Internet and Social Media
All students must comply with PNB School’s policy (located in the Summer Course Student
Handbook).
26
Fraternities
Any student entering, or on the property of, any fraternity house will be expelled from the
Summer Course.
Smoking
Washington state law makes possession of tobacco by anyone under the age of eighteen a
misdemeanor punishable by a $50 fine and four hours of community service. The Seattle Police
Department actively enforces this law. Whether or not you are eighteen, PNB School prohibits
smoking on all PNB property, including the entire SPU campus, as well as all Seattle Center
grounds, including the Intiman garden area, the fountain, and the Phelps Center. Students
disregarding this policy will face suspension and/or expulsion from the Summer Course.
Drugs and Alcohol
Any student possessing, buying/selling, using, or under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs
(including marijuana), or any student providing alcohol or drugs (including prescription drugs)
to another student will be expelled from the Summer Course.
Weapons
Any student possessing a firearm, explosive, knife, incendiary device, or any other weapon of
any kind will be expelled from the Summer Course.
Theft
Any Summer Course student found to be stealing, either in the Residence or elsewhere, will
face expulsion. Be mindful of the fact that borrowing another’s belongings without explicit
permission is considered theft.
Swimming
Swimming in the Lake Washington Ship Canal is illegal under the Seattle Municipal Code.
Reporting Rule Infractions
Students who are aware of an infraction of any PNB School rule must report it immediately to a
Residence staff or School staff member. Those who do not will be subject to disciplinary action.
Local Laws and the Community
PNB School students are easily recognizable to members of the SPU and greater Seattle
community. As representatives of the Pacific Northwest Ballet organization, you are expected to
conduct yourself accordingly. Please be courteous to others and use good manners when in
public and aboard public transportation. You are expected to comply with all local laws and
regulations, including laws prohibiting jaywalking. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary
action.
27
CONSEQUENCES OF RULE INFRACTIONS
All of these rules are necessary to ensure the welfare, comfort and safety of all residents.
Although you may be used to more freedom at home, you must abide by the House Rules
while living in the PNB School Summer Residence. If you do not observe these rules,
consequences will depend on the severity of the offense. Potential consequences include:





Warning
Loss of privileges, i.e. checking out
Meeting with the Residence Director, the Administrative Director, and/or the Director of the
School
Call to parents by School or Residence staff
Expulsion and return home at your own or your parents’ expense. If you are expelled from
the Summer Course, no refunds of any program fees or charges will be made.
FINALLY
If you are having problems of any kind, such as homesickness, difficulties adjusting to
Residence life, frustrations with your situation, classes, or anything else, you should talk with a
Residence Counselor, School staff member, or faculty member right away. The Residence and
School staff members want to make your stay enjoyable and rewarding while you are training
at Pacific Northwest Ballet School. Please don’t be afraid to ask us for help or let us know when
something is bothering you. Although our job also includes enforcing PNB’s rules, our primary
purpose is to make sure you are enjoying your experience here.
The services of the School’s Consulting Psychologist are available to you at no charge during
the Summer Course. The School’s Nutritionist and Podiatrist are available to you at reduced
rates. Please speak to a Residence or School staff member for a referral.
We are also happy to help you find your way around Seattle. Many of the staff are Seattle
residents and understand that the city can be a confusing place. We can also offer suggestions
on fun things to do and to see, whether you feel like blowing your allowance for an afternoon
or sightseeing on a budget.
Above all else, we want you to have a safe, productive, and enjoyable summer. Remember, we
are here for YOU.

Residence Activities Guide
Enjoy a wide range of extra-curricular activities
with your friends and classmates.
Expand your Seattle experience beyond the
ballet studio and have a great time exploring
our beautiful city and all it has to offer.
Some events require pre-registration
(see the following pages for details).
To reserve your place at those events, we must receive
your order form and payment by June 1st.
All orders are on a first-come, first-served basis.
The following events require pre-registration and pre-payment using the order form in
your packet. Web page addresses are provided for your information only; please do not
attempt to make reservations online. All pre-registered events are chaperoned by PNB
Residence staff members.
Sunday, July 10: Shopping Trip to Fred Meyer ($6) Maximum 54 people. Fred
Meyer is a sort of Pacific Northwest version of Target, but there’s one much closer to
the Residence AND they’re open later on Sunday, so we can squeeze in a trip after the
House Meeting and before bedtime on move-in day for those first-day necessities you
didn’t bring with you. Transportation via PNB bus. http://www.fredmeyer.com
Monday, July 11: Shopping Trip to Target ($8) Maximum 54. Not really an
activity, per se, but a necessity nonetheless. Since airlines charge for extra bags and
overweight luggage, make it easy on yourself and buy what you need after you arrive.
We’ll leave right after the House Meeting and stay as long as we need to stock up on
the essentials of life. If demand exceeds bus capacity, we’ll make a second trip on
Tuesday evening, first-come, first-served. Transportation via PNB bus.
http://www.target.com
Sunday, July 17: Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros ($32) Minimum 40,
maximum 100. “Take me out to the ball game” to watch the hometown Mariners slug
it out with their American League rival Astros in one of America’s most beautiful
ballparks. Where else can you watch a baseball game with a soda and pizza or a hot
dog – or a latte and fish and chips, salmon sandwich, fried clams, waffles, pasta, or
sushi? Even vegan and gluten-free choices are available! (Students attending will miss
lunch at the dorm and must buy their own food.) These are great seats in the View
Reserved section. Transportation via PNB bus and charter bus. http://www.mariners.org
Saturday, July 23: Seattle Reign vs. Orlando Pride ($20) Minimum 15,
maximum 54. New to our calendar this year is Seattle’s professional National
Women’s Soccer League team. Cheer for our world-class athletes – or, if you’re from
Florida, we’ll even let you root for the Pride. Transportation via PNB bus.
https://www.reignfc.com/
Sunday, July 24: Puget Sound and Lake Union tour ($48) Minimum 25,
maximum 100. You’ll love this beautiful two-and-a-half-hour cruise on both salt and
fresh water, traversing Seattle's famous Hiram Chittenden Locks. Enjoy live narration
while experiencing fantastic city and mountain views from Elliott Bay, Puget Sound and
Lake Union. And don't forget the unique Sleepless in Seattle floating houseboat
community. Remember to bring your camera! Transportation via PNB bus and charter
bus. http://www.argosycruises.com/publiccruises/locks.cfm
30
Tuesday, July 26: TRANSPORTATION ONLY – Adele Live in Concert ($5)
Maximum 54. The incredibly popular singer-songwriter comes to Seattle’s Key Arena.
Group tickets are not available, so this is not an official PNB group activity and we will
not be providing chaperones. However, it is in a very safe location (on the Seattle
Center campus), so we will be glad to provide transportation from the Residence to the
event and back for any students who have pre-purchased their own tickets. Tickets
range from $35 to $145. Transportation via PNB van or bus. Please note that the
credit card used to purchase the ticket may be needed for admission (see
Ticketmaster website for details). Adele is also performing Monday night, but due
to our mandatory weekly house meeting, we will not provide transportation for that
show. http://www.ticketmaster.com/adele-seattle-washington-07-262016/event/0F004F8BC338232F?artistid=1159272&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=1
Saturday, July 30: Woodland Park Zoo ($22) Minimum 20, maximum 100.
Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Naturally, the Emerald City has a world-class zoo.
Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoological Garden is internationally recognized as one of the
first zoos to get animals out of cages and into realistic habitats. It continues to be a
pioneer in innovative exhibits and a world leader in wildlife conservation efforts. This is
an afternoon event, so you can go to the Zoo AND attend the Gilbert & Sullivan
performance. Not available to Level VII or VIII students due to class schedule.
Transportation via PNB bus and charter bus. http://www.zoo.org
Saturday, July 30: Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Yeomen of the Guard ($30)
Minimum 20, maximum 54. The Yeomen of the Guard; or, The Merryman and His
Maid was the eleventh collaboration between Gilbert and Sullivan. The opera is set in
the Tower of London during the 16th century, and is the darkest, and perhaps most
emotionally engaging, of the Savoy Operas, ending with a broken-hearted main
character and two very reluctant engagements, rather than the usual numerous
marriages. The libretto does contain considerable humor, including a lot of pun-laden
one-liners, but Gilbert's trademark satire and topsy-turvy plot complications are
subdued in comparison with the other Gilbert and Sullivan operas. The dialogue, though
in prose, is quasi-Shakespearian, or early modern English, in style. Critics consider the
score to be Sullivan's finest. Presented by the renowned Seattle Gilbert & Sullivan
Society. This is an evening event, so you can go to the Zoo AND attend the
performance. Transportation via PNB bus. http://www.pattersong.org/
31
Sunday, July 31: Space Needle ($28) Minimum 15, maximum 100. Added to
our annual activity calendar by popular demand just a few years ago, this trip to the
observation deck of Seattle’s best-known landmark has been a huge hit. Transportation
via PNB bus. http://www.spaceneedle.com
Saturday, August 6: Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum
($12) Minimum 15, maximum 54. Take advantage of this great school group rate
to visit the famous EMP and the next-door Science Fiction Museum after your PNB
Saturday classes. If you love music or sci-fi, this is the coolest place ever! Current
exhibits include Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, The Lure of Horror Film, Worlds of Myth and
Magic, Infinite Worlds of Science Fiction, Indie Game Revolution, and Star Trek:
Exploring New Worlds. Not available to Level VII or VIII students due to class
schedule. Transportation via PNB bus. http://www.empmuseum.org
Sunday, August 7: Wild Waves/Enchanted Village ($60) Minimum 30,
maximum 150. Spend the entire day enjoying the sun (hopefully). Giant roller
coasters, log rides, water slides, and all the rest. Sunshine is never guaranteed, but
we’re Seattleites, and the water is heated – we’re going, rain or shine! Outside food is
not allowed, so we strongly suggest their optional Meal Deal for $10 (cheeseburger
meal, chicken strip meal, hot dog meal, or personal pizza meal, each including fries or
salad and a soft drink). Food may also be purchased a la carte at the park. Students
should plan to bring money to rent or share a locker ($9, $12, or $16 plus $5
refundable key deposit). Transportation via PNB bus and charter bus.

32
The following events will be arranged by Residence staff based on student interest. No
pre-registration or pre-payment is necessary. Special thanks to the PNB School Parents’
Association for their financial support of Residence activities.
Nightly: Movies in the Residence (free). Don’t feel like going out? Stay home, kick
back in the TV lounge and lose yourself in a movie. Borrow something from our large
and eclectic video library or tell the counselors what you’d like to see, and we’ll rent it
for you.
Weeks One through Three: Door Decorating Contest (free). Roommates team
up and vie for the coveted Blue Tape Trophy as they put their artistic and
improvisational skills to work creating works of art using whatever decorative materials
they can come up with. Prizes are gift cards to the winners' choices of Starbucks, Bartell
Drugs, Jamba Juice, Metropolitan Market, or Menchie's Frozen Yogurt.
Monday nights: Birthday Celebration (free). Every Monday evening we celebrate
all those students whose birthdays occur during the upcoming week. Birthday boys and
girls and all their friends and housemates enjoy custom-decorated sheet cakes, served
up by the Residence staff.
Testosterone Tuesdays: Movies for the Guys (free). Sometimes a man just
doesn’t want to watch Center Stage for the 1,000th time. On Tuesdays, the silent
minority gets a chance to be heard. Expect explosions, car chases, and mayhem.
Tolerant women are welcome too, of course.
Wednesday nights: Mature Audience Movie Night (free). At 9:00 on Wednesday
nights we’ll take a break from our usual “G,” “PG” and “PG-13” and show a Residence
Director-approved “R” movie for our 17- and 18-year-old residents. 16-year-olds may
attend with prior written permission from parents. Sorry, no 15-year-olds or younger.
Thursday nights: Craft Night (cost of materials). Create mementos of your
summer at PNB. Postcards, chia pals, tie-dye, frames for your Residence Group Photo,
graffiti shirts, memory books, and more.
Friday nights: Late-night run to Dick’s Drive-In ($2 for gas + cost of food).
Begun in 2001, this treat quickly became a favorite tradition among our students.
Beloved by all Seattleites, Dick’s is a classic drive-in restaurant virtually unchanged
since it opened in 1954 – and more recently featured in Macklemore’s “White Walls”
video. It’s Friday night, lights-out at the Residence is an hour later, and there’s nothing
like a Dick’s Deluxe, fries, and a hand-dipped milkshake. Please note: Dick’s accepts
only cash, no credit or debit cards. Transportation via PNB van. http://dicksdrivein.com/
33
Wednesday, July 13: Foot Care & Injury Prevention Seminar. What every
dancer needs to know! PNB’s Consulting Podiatrist, Dr. Alan Woodle, brings his factfilled lecture to the Main Lounge. Dr. Woodle has been on PNB School’s consulting staff
since 1981. He is Board Certified in Foot and Ankle Reconstructive Surgery and Sports
Medicine and is on the staff of Swedish Medical Center, Northwest Hospital, Group
Health and University of Washington Medical School. He is past president of the
Washington State Podiatric Medical Association, vice president of the International
Region 7 Foot and Ankle Specialists Association, and on the University of Washington
Medical School faculty for the last 25 years. http://www.swedish.org/physicians/alanwoodle
Wednesdays, July 13, 20, and 27: Individual Podiatric Screenings. Dr. Woodle
returns to the Residence to conduct individual screenings. Whether you have a question
about a foot or ankle issue, want an expert to look at your blister, or just want to have
your flexibility measured, these ten-minute sessions are just what the doctor ordered!
Friday, July 15 – Sunday, July 17: Bite of Seattle (cost of food). From the
ordinary to the exotic, join food-loving Seattleites at the Seattle Center grounds (PNB’s
own back yard) for Residence Director Dave’s very favorite civic celebration. There are
live music and booths from hundreds of local restaurants selling every imaginable kind
of food, most featuring $5-7 entrees and an even less-expensive “just a bite” item.
Transportation via city bus or PNB van. http://www.biteofseattle.com
Thursday, August 4: Residence Talent Show (free). No ballet allowed! What else
can you do? Here’s your chance to show off your skills as a film director, singer,
multimedia creator, instrumental musician, sketch comedian, rapper, or…? Your
Residence staff may also surprise you with their amazing (?) performance skills.
Saturday, August 6: Annual PNB Dorm Dance (free, Summer Residence
students only). This perennial favorite is always a blast. With a theme to be
determined by the student dance committee, we’ll dance the night away to the lights
and music of professional DJ Aaron Hart as we mark the last weekend of the 2016
Summer Course. Sorry, no non-Residence students permitted.
http://aaronhart.net/
Dates TBA: Backstage tour of McCaw Hall (free, dependent upon Seattle
Opera’s rehearsal schedule, and may not be offered to all class levels). See
where it all happens! Go backstage at PNB’s beautiful, world-class performance venue,
Marion Oliver McCaw Hall. PNB and/or Seattle Opera staff will take you on a guided tour
behind the scenes at this state-of-the-art facility. http://www.mccawhall.com
34
Other Possibilities: Organize your own group and go with or without a counselor.
Counselors will help you figure out bus routes or provide transportation and/or
accompany you (schedules permitting). Driver Dave and the Bunheadmobile (PNB van)
or the PNB bus are available for groups of 5 to 55 on a first-come, first-served basis. To
cover the cost of fuel, there will be a charge of up to $5 per person (round trip) based
on distance and number of people.
