Geometric Drawing Course Syllabus Fourth Quarter of 2011-2012 School Year Teacher: Mrs. Lamaj Subject Area: Art/Elective Course Title: Geometric Drawing Credit: .5 Course Description This course provides an introduction to technical drafting. Topics include the principles and theories of orthographic and isometric projections, dimensioning, lettering, sectional views and auxiliary views. Block, logic, schematic and circuit diagrams are covered. Course Objectives Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. Use mechanical drafting tools to create industry standard lettering for drawings and sketches. 2. Use mechanical drafting tools to create technical drawings and sketches. 3. Use mechanical drafting tools to create drawings using accurate scale ratio reflecting the actual size compared to the drawn size 4. Use mechanical drafting tools to create technical drawings using orthographic projection. 5. Use mechanical drafting tools to create an isometric projection drawing 6. Use mechanical drafting tools to add industry standard dimensions to various drawings 7. Read and interpret the industrial and architectural drawings including detail drawings, assembly drawings, elevation drawings, floor plan drawings from upper level drawings to component level, notes and details. 8. Define terms using technical drafting. 9. Create a section view. SCHOLASTIC EXCELLENCE The grading policy for this class is the same as the entire school: A = 94-100% B = 86-93% C = 77-85% F = 76% and below Grades are posted on the Power School on a regular basis. Students should check the grade regularly. Grades will be determined based on the following percentages: 30% 20% Assessments Tests Quizzes Notebooks Class work Vocabulary Miscellaneous Homework 30% Homework grades are determined based on both neatness and accuracy. Projects 20% Standards for ALL written work All material is to be arranged chronologically in order. Prepared: Notebook, paper, pencil (sharpened) Positive: Willing to volunteer, answers questions when asked, takes an active role in class. Consequences: Warning Parent Contact Referral Administrative Action Class Absences Excused Absences: Students must make up work in a timely fashion (according to school policy). It is the responsibility of the student to find out what was missed. Unexcused Absences Make up work will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Passes Passes will be issued on a limited basis according to school rules. Excessive requests for passes from class will be denied. You are NOT to leave the classroom without teacher’s permission NOR without a pass! Supplies Required Loose leaf Paper Pencils with erasers 3 – Ring binder Graph Paper INTELLIGENT CREATIVE EXPRESSION IHS is a high school of arts integration, which means that we are going to incorporate arts throughout the curriculum to make teaching and learning more meaningful. During this quarter we are going to do at least one arts integration project. Short writing assignments will be given throughout the quarter and presentation skills will be practiced and evaluated. The purpose of these assignments is to give you the opportunity to creatively express yourself. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY All drawing materials should be returned to teacher in the same condition as received in the beginning of the class. If an accident happens, report it right away. If you find a drawing tool in a bad condition, you must report it right away. If you wait until the end of class to do so, then you will be held responsible for the damage.
