April 2015 Newsletter NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR First Presbyterian Kindergarten Spring has arrived, and we are looking forward to healthy children, special days, and plenty of outside fun on our playgrounds. Children love to play outside! Teachers love outdoor time too. It is a relaxing, stress reducing part of the day, and a time when much development and learning takes place. Physical development is evident as children learn about their bodies in space, practice important physical skills, and exercise and strengthen muscles. Children also learn social skills- cooperation, turn taking, being on a team. They learn about the world around them as they observe changes in plants and seasons; they watch living things such as caterpillars and ladybugs; they learn about the earth by collecting leaves and pinecones. Outside play is an integral part of our program and we will be spending time playing outside games, reading stories, eating snack, and enjoying the wonderful weather. Good news! this summer, First Presbyterian Children's Ministries and First Presbyterian Kindergarten are joining together to offer four weeks of Summer Fundays! Summer Fundays will be offered June 1-5; June 8-12; July 6-10; and July 13-17. Fundays are open to any child who will be 2 years of age by September 1st through rising first graders. Your child may attend one or all weeks of Summer Fundays. Each week is $100. Hours are 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Children bring a sack lunch and enjoy fun activities. Watch for registration later in the month. ART SHOW Mark Thursday, April 23th, on your calendars! FPK is hosting an open house and art show from 5:30-7 p.m. for our friends and families. Our classrooms and hallways will be decorated with our students' creations. The children are so proud of their work and are excited to share it with you. Please set aside a few minutes on April 23th to attend our open house and art show. HOLIDAYS Thank You! Because we are a Christian school, we will be closed on April 3 in observance of Good Friday. Our school will also be closed April 6-10 for spring vacation. Our “Science Wizard” days were so much fun! The children loved every minute. Thank you to all our parent volunteers who helped make our science laboratory a success! Summer FunDays! ~ 1 ~ April 2015 Newsletter Please remember to use carpool as a time to wish your child a great day and to welcome them back and hear about their morning! They are sad when they cannot tell you goodbye and are anxious to talk to you at pick up. Talking on the cell phone while in carpool is distracting and could possibly result in a tragic accident. During carpool, all parents need to be alert and follow the directions of the carpool monitor. The safety of the children and the teachers is our highest priority. Thank you for your help! CULTURAL ARTS On April 15th, we will enjoy puppeteer, Lee Bryan, "That Puppet Guy" as he presents "Circus Fanta Sea". We will walk across the street to First Baptist at 11:00 for the performance. If your child does not attend school on this day, you are welcome to bring your child and join us for the show. As we are attacking our spring cleaning chores, please Be on the lookout for any school library books that your child may have checked out previously. Under couches, beds, closets, and car seats are especially popular hiding places! The children will stop checking out books at the end of April to allow for all books to be located and returned. We will still have our regular library and story time. Mrs. Chrissy “God will teach us His ways. And we will obey His teaching.” Isaiah 2:3 F U N T IME N EWS Getting Enough Sleep With the recent time change, your child may have a hard time falling asleep at night. Getting 10-‐ 12 hours of sleep a night helps your child to grow, stay healthy, and do well in school. Have a nightly bedtime routine (bath, brush teeth, story time) and repeat the same routine each night. Encourage other family members to read or do quiet activities after you say good night. That way your child won't think he is missing out on the fun. Our activities for April will include learning the bunny hop, parachute activities, and jump rope activities. We are still working on our sit ups and jumping jacks and the 2's & 3's love to play follow the leader. Have a Happy & Healthy month. Cindy, Henrietta & Sara 3-YEAR-OLD CLASSES March was an exciting month discussing wind, rain, and sun. Our weather topics led us into Noah’s Ark, which made us think about all of God’s incredible creatures. When we read the book Don't Rock the Ark by Elizabeth Rodger, we decided there was a lot of work for Noah and his family to take care of all those animals. The search for Leprechauns has tapered off since the Easter Bunny has hopped into the scene. As we read The Easter Story, the children fill their minds with new wonders of spring. In April, we will be busy as bees on a spring day preparing for our Art Show. (We will send out more details later on.) Please see Directors’ Notes for upcoming activities. Happy Spring! Buzz, Buzz.... Sandra and Cathy MRS. SMITH’S 3-DAY 3-YEAR-OLD CLASSES The children were very excited about the leprechaun who visited us. We hope they told you all about his tricks.
