The W offers a variety of programming and fitness
opportunities to accommodate a wide range of
personal needs. We provide a comprehensive
wellness program with facilities, equipment,
and programming to meet your exercise needs.
We truly believe in our motto, “There’s a place for
you at The W.”
Membership offers access to many of
the great features of The W including:
• A fitness area with free weights/stacked
weights and cardio machines, including
treadmills, elliptical machines, and stationary
conventional and recumbent bikes.

Registration Information
Pre-registration is required for all programs with
fees due and payable at the time of registration.
No registration is complete until the fee is paid
and your name is added to the registration list. All
registrations are accepted on a first-served basis.
Always use correct age/grade at the beginning of
the program.
Code Number/Letter System for
Community Rec Programs
All community recreation programs have a code for
each class offered. The code system helps simplify
the registration procedure for you and our office.
Please indicate the code when registering for
programs.
Complete Registration Form
A registration form is available in the back of the
brochure. Please fill out the entire form and be sure
all information is correct and the program codes are
included. Please keep a copy of your registration.
The W will not call to confirm your registration.

registrations will receive an email confirmation.

walking/jogging track in Center Court.

Refunds
In fairness to all participants, each withdrawal from
a program will be assessed a $5 processing fee
whether a refund check is issued or credit is put on
an account. There will be no transfers. Any changes
will be treated as a refund, and participants must
re-register for the desired class.
No refunds will be given following the
registration deadline. If a deadline date is not
indicated, it will be seven calendar days prior to the
program start date.
If a medical problem arises during the activity/class,
a physician’s written excuse must be presented
stating that participation is restricted. In the case of
a medical excuse, a percentage of whatever class
time remains will be refunded.
If the program/activity is canceled by the
department, you will have the choice of having a
full refund issued to your account or a refund check
issued to the person who paid for the enrollment.

Hold Your Event at The W
Pool Parties at The W
Everyone Belongs!
Would your church, business, or group like to host an
event at The W? We offer options for renting the pool,
wet classroom, rock wall, tennis courts, racquetball
courts, fieldhouse, and Center Court. Call Jill at
319-352-8716 to check availability.
Pool: $60 for 15 participants (member rate)
(Two-hour time period scheduled for 15 swimmers)
If you or a family member has special needs and would
like to participate in a program, we will be happy to
make accommodations to meet your needs. Please
contact our office at 319-352-8716 if you would
like more information regarding programs and/or
accommodations for program participants according
to the Americans with Disabilities Act. The W is a
participating member in the Together We Play program.
Climbing Wall
Our 30-foot-tall climbing wall can hold up to six
climbers at one time, and there are no height or weight
restrictions. Harnesses, ropes, and other necessary
equipment are provided by The W, along with the
assistance of our certified belayer. The climbing wall is
open weekday evenings and weekend afternoons.

(Two-hour time period scheduled for 15 swimmers)
Wet Classroom: $15 for the same two-hour time period
(member and guest rate). This room may be used for
treats and opening presents. A $50 deposit is required.
After tables have been cleaned, garbage thrown away,
and floor swept, the deposit will be returned.

party request must be approved by the office, based on
pool and classroom availability.
Cancellations may be made seven days prior to
scheduled date. If cancelled after the seven-day

Fitness Area Orientation
Let us teach you how to use the equipment in the
Fitness Area. Whether you need full instruction
or are looking for a review, we can get you started
with proper equipment use. Offered free
of charge on the first Saturday of each month,
September through May.

Reduced Program Fees
Reduced-price programs are available. Families or
members of families are eligible for reduced-price
programs if they are currently receiving food stamps.
Youth are eligible for reduced-price programs if they
receive reduced-price or free hot lunches. A form is
available at The W Office.
Verification will take approximately one week and
must be completed before you can register for any
programs at the discounted price. A new form must
be filled out each year. Forms expire on Aug. 15 of
each year.

Announcements of cancellations will be posted on
the Web at www.The-W.org and aired on KWAY radio
station (99.3 FM).

CERTIFICATION CLASSES

Lifeguard Training
Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
The American Red Cross program provides lifeguards with skills to keep patrons of
aquatic facilities safe in and around water. This class includes training in First Aid and
CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. Participants must be at least 15 years of age
before the end of the course to enroll. Lifeguard/First Aid and CPR/AED certifications
are valid for two years. Participants must attend all class sessions to obtain
certifications.
The American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course trains instructor candidates
to teach courses and presentations in the Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety
program by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials,
conduct training sessions, and evaluate participants’ progress. Successful candidates
are eligible to teach Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim,
three adult-focused courses, Basic Water Rescue, Personal Water Safety courses, and
more. Participants must be at least 16 years of age and proficient swimmers.
Precourse: At the beginning of the course, all students must successfully complete
a 300-yard continuous swim, retrieve a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the pool,
and tread water for two minutes to remain enrolled in the course.
Lifeguard Instructor (LGI)
No refunds will be given to persons who fail any part of this course.
Lifeguard/First Aid/Lifeguard CPR Certification Review
This course is a way to renew your current certifications. Participants should come
prepared to successfully demonstrate their practical skills and pass the written exams.
Participants must pass the precourse swim, written exam, and skills check. Lifeguard,
First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification, valid for two years, will be
awarded upon the successful completion of the course.
Prerequisites: Individuals with a current Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED or Shallow
Water Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certificate may participate in a review course.
Proof of current valid American Red Cross issued Lifeguard certification is
required to participate in the course.
The LGI class is designed to train instructor candidates to teach basic-level
Lifeguarding, Shallow Water Attendant, Lifeguard Management, and CPR/AED for the
Professional Rescuer. Candidates must attend all classes to receive certification and
must be at least 17 years of age before the end of the course. LGI candidates must
pass the LGI exam at the completion of the course to obtain certification.
Community CPR/First Aid
The American Red Cross Community CPR Class teaches the skills necessary to prevent,
recognize, and provide basic care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults,
children, and infants until advanced medical personnel arrive. Certification is valid for
two years. The American Red Cross First Aid course gives individuals the knowledge
and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic first aid care for injuries and
sudden illness until advanced medical personnel arrive. Certification is valid for two
years.
Course Requirements: Participants must attend and participate in all sessions,
including classroom work and skills practice. To receive the associated certification,
participants must satisfactorily demonstrate all Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR skills,
and pass the written exam with a score of at least 80 percent.
Course Length: 13 hours
No refunds will be given to persons who fail any part of this course or fail to show
proof of previous certification.

TREAT YOURSELF TO A MASSAGE
Massage therapy is offered to members and guests of The W.
Fees are $30 for a half-hour, $55 for an hour, and $80 for
90 minutes unless otherwise noted.
A basic massage includes hot towels and the use of hot stones. The W also
offers several specialized massage therapy options, including:
• Bio Energetic Synchronization Technique, which removes
interference in the body, like stress, to allow healing to begin.
• Raindrop Essential Oil Massage, which uses 100 percent
therapeutic-grade essential oils on the feet and spine.
• Seaweed Body Wrap, which helps stimulate metabolism
while hydrating and detoxifying the body. ($40 for $45 minutes)
• Myoskeletal Alignment Therapy, a deep-tissue massage for
pain relief and management.
• Spinal Reflex Therapy, a non-invasive way to treat pain by
addressing the most prevalent cause of skeletal pain and dysfunction.
Spasms, numbness, pain, joint compression, distorted posture, and
pinched nerves can be treated with this therapy.

PRIVATE SWIMMING LESSONS
Learn-to-Swim Program Descriptions
*More detailed descriptions of the Learn-to-Swim program may be found at
www.The-W.org under Aquatics.
Swim lessons include all levels of the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim
Program. Lessons are taught by American Red Cross certified water safety
instructors. Learn-to-Swim teaches aquatic and safety skills in a logical
progression. The objective is to teach people of all ages to swim, be safe in,
on, and around the water, and give students a positive learning experience.
Private Lessons
Private Lessons - Private lessons may be taken at any skill level. Instructors teach
one-on-one for 25 minutes.
*Lessons will not start before the start date of each session.
*Lesson requests submitted after ending date will be honored during the next private
lesson session.

PERSONAL TRAINING
Clean and Lean Program
Courage in Motion
This convenient, six-week program provides customized
help with weekly workouts and clean, healthy nutritional
coaching you can work into your busy schedule, all from
an ACE-certified fitness nutrition specialist, health coach,
personal trainer, nutritionist in weight management,
biomechanics method corrective exercise specialist, and
myoskeletal alignment specialist. Each six-week session
is $150 for members and $200 for guests.
Courage in Motion, a wellness program for patients
who are currently going through or have completed
cancer treatments, is your pathway to hope and health.
Tami Janssen, an ACE personal trainer and breast cancer
exercise specialist, will lead the program. Participants
will have the opportunity to meet on a weekly basis
to connect, share stories, and exercise together. There
is no attendance requirement and no fitness level
prerequisite.

TriByKnight Triathlon
The TriByKnight Triathlon, now in its fifth year, was
the first triathlon in the Waverly area and is already
one of the most popular early-season events in
the region. This sprint tri (300-yard swim, 15-mile
bike, 3.1-mile run) is perfect for those just getting
started in the sport. The event, staged on the
Wartburg College campus,
features a time-trial pool
start in The W’s state-ofthe-art Schuldt Natatorium.

Pain Management Sessions (NEW)
In this unique service, clients will go through a
biomechanical assessment to find postural deviations
in the body that may be contributing to pain. Once your
unique muscular imbalances are identified, you will go
through a course of six sessions to learn and implement
corrective exercises to assist in rebalancing the body. All
sessions are completed Catherine Robb, a biomechanical
corrective exercise specialist. Cost is $60 for members
and $80 for guests.

Post-rehabilitation training bridges the gap

has proven that carefully structured exercise
programs can be effective for chronic diseases
and musculoskeletal issues.
Golf Performance Enhancement
Training
This program is an assessment and training
program designed specifically for golfers. In this
program a biomechanical analysis is done to
identify mobility/ strength deficiencies and a
training program is designed to improve swing
performance. All sessions are led by Certified Nike
NG360 Golf Performance Specialist and Certified
Personal Trainer.

TRX Fit Fusion
FXT (Functional XTraining) 8 weeks
Are you looking for something that will improve your

effective techniques to vulnerable areas of the body.
The class will be taught by Frank Martinez, a Shinkyudo
Karate Association, Inc. certified black belt karate

NFL Flag Football SEPT.-OCT.
The NFL flag football program is growing and expanding!
The program is an instructional league that teaches the
basic fundamentals of
flag football through
team practices and
games. The style of
play is a 5-on-5 format,
and teams will have
distinct NFL uniforms.
Participants will be required to wear mouth guards.
Fee includes jersey and flags. Parent volunteer coaches

*Structure subject to change based on rosters
*Practice times will be set in fall and will be based
on each coach's availability. Practices are 1 hour and
typically in the 4-7 p.m. timeframe, 1 time per week
on a M,T,W, or Thurs. After Saturday, Sept. 10, which
will be a practice, all Saturdays will be games played
in the morning to midday.
Grades based on 2016-17 school year
Location: Droste Shelter, Fairgrounds
*Saturday, Sept. 10 (practice), 17, and Oct. 1 games will
be played on Wartburg’s Zimmerman Field.

PERMISSION FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT
Upon registering for any Community Recreation program or activity, it is
assumed that in the case of a parent’s or guardian’s absence or unavailability,
The W staff is authorized to arrange for whatever medical treatment is
considered necessary for the minor child enrolled in the activity.
If a parent/guardian does not wish to authorize The W staff to arrange for
medical treatment, a revocation of permission form must be filed with The W.
RELEASE OF LIABILITY

In consideration of the Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center at Wartburg
College granting the participant permission to participate in activities/programs, I

indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Wartburg College, the Board of Regents,
the Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center, their employees, officials and

otherwise, which may result from any negligence or the participant taking part in
activities/programs offered by the Wartburg-Waverly Sports & Wellness Center at
any location that these activities may take place.
