Interactive Notebooks
This year 7th grade social studies will be doing interactive notebooks. The purpose of having
students learn from using interactive notebooks is that it provides students the opportunity to
receive new information, time to process/digest that information, and time to respond to that
information.
Daily tasks/activities will be will be worked on and completed on the left side of the interactive
notebook. The right side of the notebook will be for the student responses. Students will be
provided with a variety of different formats throughout the trimester to respond to the material
presented.

From your readings, fill in the important events
of the Revolutionary War on the timeline below:
Draw a picture of one event on the timeline. Be sure to
include important people, places, locations, etc. Picture
should have a title and a caption.

Possible Option 3: VOCABLARY
Choose 4 of the new vocabulary words presented in this

Options may include an artistic option: drawing a picture, diagraming, mind mapping, etc. Another
could be a short answer: interview, letter, quizlet, poem, etc. A third option could be a vocabulary
option: illustrated dictionary, pictogram, synonyms/antonyms, etc. Each student can increase
his/her understanding by responding to the material presented in a variety of ways.
Activities may be used as an academic grade or to assess standards. Students will have some
written responses graded as well. Some responses will be graded by the student, some by a peer,
or some collected by the teacher.

of the United States, I can summarize how the 4 State Compelling Interests apply to my everyday life at
Eisenhower Jr. High.

Legitimate educational purpose means the state decides what each grade level curriculum
is through the Education amendments act (1972)

My life: I can’t teach anything I want; I must teach the 7th grade ss (even if I want to teach
you chocolate making) and I must be sure everyone is learning, not just some students.

Property Loss or Damage means I am responsible for all materials, equipment, supplies,
etc that I use here at school.

My life: If I borrow Ms. Kasinger’s computer and I lose or break it, I am responsible for the
cost of the repair or replacement and if I take an item from a student such as a cell phone;
I am responsible for anything that may happen to it while I have it.
