Vintage Tea Party
14th February 2016
Our first fund raising event of 2016 and a huge success it was.
There was a big turn out and everyone enjoyed their
afternoon tea. Everyone was treated to handmade cakes and
sandwiches alongside pots of tea and coffee. After the food
we had a big raffle where prizes included chocolates, bottles
of wine and a big Valentines cake in the shape of a heart…..
(Read on to find out some really exciting news!)
We raised £577!
A big thank you to everyone who helped out.
Activities Report
With Christmas now behind us and
Easter looming close on the horizon,
our attentions turn towards the Easter
Fair, which will take place 22nd March.
Dawn’s creativity group are already
busy looking for interesting items to
produce and sell at the fair. Dawn and
Ela continue to bring new and
interesting ideas into the sessions for
our residents and day users to
undertake. The department has proved
very successful in raising money to buy
further equipment in order to expand
its scope, but both Dawn and Ela are
fully committed to ensuring that
creativity sessions are fully accessible
by everyone.
The baking department continues to
prove extremely popular, with Anna
undertaking several sessions every
week, along with day to day cooking
sessions on a Wednesday morning. Staff
who are working on a one to one basis
can also use the kitchen, which makes it
accessible and enjoyable for all.
Mandy’s health and beauty sessions
continue to thrive, and Mandy now
oversees a more formal approach to
monitoring weight of all our residents
and day users, to assist Irena; our
Catering Manager to help promote
healthy eating and diet. This has
proved to be a success with residents
and day users at Lincolnshire House, as
most have become involved with
improving their health and wellbeing.
The iMuse and Rebound Therapy
continue to be extremely popular with
everyone at Lincolnshire House and we
hope in the near future more staff can
be trained to use these facilities and
extend use for everyone here at
Lincolnshire House.
We believe we continue to offer a
varied program for residents and day
users here at Lincolnshire House and
really hope we can expand our services
and facilities to promote interest in the
wider community. We do currently hire
iMuse and Rebound Therapy, if you are
interested please call us on 01724
844168.
I am pleased and excited to say that we
will be going ahead with our MultiSensory room. It will be kitted out with
new décor, furnishings and equipment,
which will provide us with an up to date
and more interactive environment.
We continue to have a good
relationship with North Lindsey College
and students continue to visit
Lincolnshire House on a Wednesday to
hold games sessions with the residents
and day users. We also have a talk held
by one of our residents to promote
Disability Awareness. We also continue
to attract students from other colleges
for work experience.
I am already booking events for the
Summer Fete and we will be planning
more in the near future. Busy and
exciting times continue for activities at
Lincolnshire House.

Valentines Tea Party
After we all filled ourselves on delicious
egg mayonnaise sandwiches and French
Fancie cakes we were surprised with a
very generous donation of £50,000
from our friends at the North East
Lincolnshire Cerebral Palsy Trust. Once
again a huge thank you to everyone who
attended and for all your help and
support.
Wheelchair Football
When we go to Bottesford sports hall
every Friday to play Wheelchair
Football, we also play other sports such
as tennis. Each side consists of three
players in wheelchairs, each of whom
control his or her area of the court. The
objective of the game is to score a point
in the opponent’s half and to prevent
the other side from scoring. As we are in
wheelchairs, we do not have a net
across the court, but a dividing line
through the centre, which each side is
not allowed to cross.

busy as ever with residents making
crafts for events and celebrations,
starting with Valentine’s Day. Residents
made decorative boxes to hold
chocolates to give to their loved ones.
They are currently busy making things
for the up and coming Easter Fair.

50th Anniversary
This year sees the 50th Anniversary of
our home. It was on April 18th 1966
when the first individuals moved in.
Back then there were only 10 residents
living at the home, now we have 35.
What follows now are the memories of
some of the individuals who live here…
Michael Burnett has been here 45 years
he shares some of his memories.
“I remember being in the workshop in
the 1970’s, where I used to put screws
and bolts into terminal bases for
“I have been on holiday to various places
both in the UK and abroad, including
Ayr, Caistor-On-Sea and Minehead”.
Another one of the residents, Peter
Bromley remembers some of the
famous visitors we’ve had over the
years including, Desmond Decker,
Jimmy Young, The Small Faces and Tony
Jacklin, amongst many others.
Peter Bromley shares some of his
memories with us.
“I myself came to our home in 1969, I’d
like to share some of my memories from
the past 47 years starting from the
1970’s. In those days there were no
activities as such. Instead the place
where we went was the workshop
where contract work was carried out
and even those who could not
undertake the work were also paid. I my
myself was unable to work so I spent my
days reading and talking to my friends”.
“Moving onto the 1980’s. I remember
the local adult education people came
and not only did they help me with
reading, writing and arithmetic, but also
some of my friends”.
“In the early 90’s along with some of my
friends I moved into my bungalow and
into my own bedroom, at the time of
writing this I now have my own en-suite
as well. Coming up to date I have been
on many holidays. I can remember being
in Cornwall with my friends, Michael,
Marie and Debbie. One night I got a little
merry and laughed that much when the
ladies came to put me to bed, it was
virtually impossible to lift me into bed”.
“I hope the home will be going for
another 50 years continuing to provide
high quality care for individuals with
cerebral palsy and related disabilities”.

What is astronomy?
It is the scientific study of the universe, stars and planets. How old is the science? Astronomy dates back to the
ancient Egyptians when the Pharaohs always aligned their pyramids to the Pole Star, also known as the North
Star and Polaris.
The solar system
Our planet is one of eight. It is 93,000,000 miles from the sun. Six planets including earth have moons, others
include Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune, Mars and Uranus. Our moon is particularly important to us, as it effects the
tides of our oceans and seas. All moons have different characteristics, for instance Jupiter has four moons,
Ganymede, Io, Europa and Callisto, each moon has a different terrain. Io for instance is volcanically active in
fact Io is the most volcanically active world in our solar system.
Constellations, Stars and going back in time
There are 88 official constellations in our solar system, all are different and each individually named after
characters, animals and objects from Greek Mythology. For instance, one constellation is called Cassiopeia
named after a vain queen who boasted of her unrivalled beauty. If you look up to the sky for Cassiopeia, you
will see it in the shape of a ‘W’.
Sirius, apart from the sun is the brightest star in the night sky. It is 8.7 light years away. When we look up at the
stars we are travelling back in time. For instance, when we look up to Sirius we are seeing it as it was 8.7 years
ago! That is how long the light takes to travel through space, pretty fascinating stuff!
Tim Peake
Tim Peake is the first British Astronaut to go to the International Space Station. He was launched into
space on 15th December 2015 and will work on the ISS for 6 months undertaking experiments and tests for
the European Space Agency (ESA). During launch Tim was allowed to pick three songs that could be
played to him, he choose Queen- ‘Don’t stop me now’, Coldplay’s ‘A Sky full of Stars’ and U2’s ‘Beautiful
Day’.
Here are a few stars, constellations
and planets you can spot in the night
sky during March and April 2016.
Constellations
Orion- ‘The Hunter’, is a big
constellation that dominates our winter
skies. He stands proud with his bow and
arrow and holds a sword in his belt.
Orion has a distinct star, red in colour
called ‘Betelgeuse’. This star is a red
giant and one of the largest stars
known.
Ursa Major- ‘The plough’ or ‘Big Dipper’
is another prominent constellation in
our night sky. The Great Bear is visible
throughout the year. Look for an upside
down pan, and underneath you will see
Polaris- ‘The North Star’, as though it
has fallen from the pans bowl.
Throughout March you will be able
To see the planet Jupiter. Jupiter
Appears as a big bright light in The
night sky. If you have a Telescope or
binoculars, you will be able to see
Jupiter’s moons.
On April 22nd if you’re lucky you will
Be able to see the meteor shower
called The Lyrids. If you look towards
the constellation of Lyra, you can see
up to one meteor a minute. Although
this isn’t the best meteor shower of the
year you can still see stars shooting
across the night sky. The best meteor
shower of the year will be Perseids,
which are present during August. The
Perseids always put on a fantastic show
with a clear sky and can produce up to
100 meteors an hour!
