Yr 10 Autumn Term Topics – Foundation (Set 3 Hawk) 1) Integers, Powers & Roots (New AQA Ch 4 & 14) a) Revision of prime, cube, square numbers as well as factors & multiples. b) Use prime factor decomposition of a number & use Venn diagrams to find the HCF & LCM. c) Use index laws e.g 53 x 54 = 59 and 66 ÷ 62=64 (laws of indices is also met in Algebra 1) d) Revise the 4 rules of negative numbers. 2) Angles & Measure (New AQA Ch 9) – This topic will be revised in year 11. a) Revise how to find angles on a straight line, in a triangle & around a point. b) Understand a proof that angles in a triangle add to 1800. c) Use alternate, corresponding, supplementary & opposite angles in parallel lines. d) Find interior & exterior angles of polygons. E.g 5400 in a pentagon……. e) Find missing sides in similar shapes using scale factors. (also seen in ratio) 3) Ratio & Proportion (New AQA Ch 26 & 27) a) Revise how to share in a given ratio. b) Revision of solving problems in direct proportion. c) Solve best buy problems d) Find missing sides in similar shapes using scale factors. (seen in angles) HALF TERM 4) Algebra 1 (New AQA Ch 7 & 22) a) Substitute positive & negative integers into Mathematical & Scientific formula. (extend to decimals) b) Multiply a single term over a bracket & factorise expressions. E.g factorise 12m – 8n or 18ab + 9a c) Simplify algebraic expressions e.g 5f – 7g – 6f or 6m3 + 2p – 3m3 d) Use the laws of indices e.g simplify a2 x a3 4) Fractions, Decimals & Percentages (New AQA Ch 5, 6 & 13) a) Add & subtract fractions to include mixed numbers e.g 1⅜ + 2⅓ b) Multiply a fraction by a fraction and by a whole number.
