Name: ___________________________________ Date: _________ Per:_____ Doc _____ Electromagnetic Wave Mini Research Project We have learned about the visible spectrum, but there are many other types of radiation given off by objects in space. You and your group will research and share the following information on your portion of the electromagnetic spectrum in a 3-5 minute Google slides presentation. Describe the wavelength, frequency and energy of your type of radiation compared to that of visible light. Explain where your type of radiation falls on the electromagnetic spectrum. List and explain at least 3 uses of your radiation. Explain what types of bodies give off your radiation in space. Also, describe why your type of radiation is relevant to our astronomy studies. Determine and explain whether or not your wave is dangerous to humans. You will compile all of your information on Google slides to be shared with the teacher and accompany your presentation. You will be graded on both the quality of your slides and your presentation. In addition to the required information above, see the rubric on the back of this page when working on your presentation to be sure that you address all project requirements. Our electromagnetic radiation is: gamma x-ray ultraviolet infrared terahertz microwave radio wave The other members of my group are _____________________, _____________________, ______________________ We will be presenting ______________________________________ ** Remember to submit this rubric before presenting** Rubric for Group Activity Grading Criteria Score 3 Score 2 Content All required topics are addressed in detail Three or more topics are addressed but not in detail Two or fewer topics are addressed; topics not addressed in detail Content Accuracy Completely accurate; all facts are precise and explicit Most required topics are addressed in detail; some details missing Mostly accurate; a few inconsistencies or errors in information Somewhat accurate; more than a few errors in information Research Goes above and beyond to research information; brings in personal ideas or information to enhance the project Extremely well organized; logical format that is easy to follow; flows smoothly from one idea to another Does a very good job of researching; at times took the initiative in to find information outside of school Presented in a thoughtful manner; there are some signs of organization and most transitions are easy to follow, but at some times ideas are not clear. Is well done and interesting to the audience; is presented in unique manner and is very well organized Uses the material provided in an acceptable manner, but did not consult an additional resource Completely inaccurate; the facts in this project are misleading to the audience Does not utilize resources effectively; did little or no fact gathering on the topic Slide Organization Presentation Is engaging and captures the interest of the audience and maintains this throughout the entire presentation Score 1 Score 0 Somewhat organized; ideas not presented in a matter that is easily understood; transitions are not always smooth and at time distract the audience. Irregular and confusing; format difficult to follow; transitions are abrupt and seriously distract the audience. Is at times interesting and presented clearly and precisely; is clever at times and organized in a logical manner Is not organized effectively; not easy to follow and does not keep the audience interested Rubric for Individual in Group Activity Grading Criteria Score 3 Score 2 Score 1 Score 0 Participation Willingly contributes creative ideas; brings forth contributions from other group members Contributes several good ideas Participated by agreeing with others’ ideas; contributes no original ideas Makes few or irrelevant contributions Listens to others’ ideas; works well with all group members Sometimes listens to others’ ideas; has some difficulty working cooperatively Inattentive; allows other group members to do the bulk of the work Teamwork Presentation _____/15 Individual _____/5 Total _____/20
