From The Director of Volunteer Services Office ~ Laura Rogers Arne, M.A. October 2016 Oh yes, Fall…I love this season that brings in the crisp air, bonfires, falling/dancing leaves, pumpkins/roasted pumpkin seeds, hot cocoa or cider under a cozy quilt on a warm couch. Fall is such a great time to reflect on our lives. It is a time to slow down and create the life we want for ourselves. For those of you who are volunteering at Ebenezer Minneapolis Campus, a big Thank You! We are so grateful for all you do for our residents. For those of you who have had it on your heart and mind to volunteer… perhaps this is the time! 612-872-8515 Try to guess which building on the Faith-based, not-for-profit We’re continuing the Friends of Ebenezer’s mission by raising money that will help fund artwork after renovation in Park Apartments. We at Ebenezer know that you volunteers are the cornerstone to our great success! In all we do, we want to stay true to our mission for our residents: “Ebenezer is driven to heal, discover and educate for longer, healthier, meaningful lives.” Volunteers needed for an extra special Residents’ Birthday Dinner on November - Booker T. Volunteer Spotlight: Dianna Smith My name is Diane Smith. I was referred to Ebenezer through Eastside Neighborhood Senior Services Program. In my free time I like to help others as much as possible. I love to serve the Lord. I am on our prayer and group dance team at Kehilat Sar Shalom. I like to sing and sang in a big band in Los Angeles as well as playing clarinet and piano. Fall 2016 © Fairview Health Services 2016 Intern and Volunteer Profiles David DiPasquale: St. Mary’s University Intern at Tower Brenda Boogren: Clinical Pastoral Education Apartments My name is Brenda and I am a new Chaplain Intern for this fall at Ebenezer. I am excited to start my Clinical Pastoral Education with you. I am a recent graduate from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities with my Master of Divinity. I have completed all of my coursework, but still need to do an internship for one year in a church. After that, I can be called and ordained as a Pastor in the ELCA. I have been living with my parents for the past three years and so very grateful that they could help me out while I have been in school and working part time and that I can help them some also. I was born and raised on the East side of St. Paul, went to the University of Minnesota Duluth for my undergraduate and have also lived in Michigan and Illinois working in Youth Ministry. Linqing Chu: Clinical Pastoral Education My name is Linqing Chu, and my English name is Sue, which is helpful for English speakers to pronounce and remember. Right now I’m studying at Luther Seminary. I come from Zhengzhou, a city which is located in the Northern part of China, about a 5-hour drive from Beijing. I’m the only child from my mom’s side, since we have the one child policy in China (now it’s open to two), and I have a half-brother who is 12 years young than I. I love to go swimming, read and hang out with friends when I’m free. Though I met a few of you at bingo in September, I’m looking forward to meeting many more over the coming months. I’m in my last year of the Marriage and Family Therapy program at St. Mary’s and I have a lot to learn from each of you! I’ll be around the Tower Apartments on Saturdays, and when I’m not with all of you I’ll usually be at work with therapy clients, or chasing my one-year-old son around the house. When I can get out of town, nothing beats a road trip, a long hike, and somewhere quiet to take in the scenery. And (believe it or not) I’m looking forward to shoveling the snow when winter gets here. If I have time to relax you’ll usually catch me reading or cooking (they both run in my family). I think the stories we create about ourselves can be a great source of joy and sadness. I want to hear your stories, and learn about the things that matter to you. I hope to talk with you soon!
