Powerful
impressions,
relaxed tempo
After a day in the wilderness
recharge with a hearty meal.
Our menus offer a variety
and we are particularly proud
to serve arctic specialties such
as seal, whale, reindeer and
Svalbard grouse – all provided
by local hunters.
From your table at the hotel’s
restaurant Brasseri Nansen you
can enjoy the panoramic view
towards the majestic mountain
Hiorthfjellet accompanied
by an excellent Arctic menu
and an extensive selection of
wines. Brasseri Nansen is an
unpretentious restaurant, and
we like to offer a playful menu
based on local produce.
Brasseri Nansen 2. Etage
is our most exclusive chambre
separée. Located on the
mezzanine floor above the
hotel’s entrance, 2. etage
offers stunning views over
Longyearbyen towards the
Longyear Glacier. The head
chef and maître d’hotel arrange
sensational menus with perfectly
matched wines, and ensure
an indulgent evening with
exceptional service.
The town most popular
meeting place, Barentz Pub
& Spiseri is located at the
Radisson Blu Polar Hotel
Spitsbergen. The pub is a cosy
place where you make new
acquaintances over a wide
selection of international beers
and often features live music
on the weekends. In addition to
the options on the menu the
pub also serves a daily special
– home cooking made with love
for visitors and locals alike.

Activities & experiences
Write home
about something
other than the
weather
High in the Arctic, Spitsbergen
is a place of varied nature and
rich animal life.
From January through May
it is possible to enjoy winter
activities such as dog sledding
and snowmobile touring, either
for the day or as a part of an
overnight trip. If you are lucky
you may even catch a glimpse
of the King of the Arctic – the
Polar Bear. Or why not try
something else unique to
Spitsbergen? – a tour of the
area’s ice caves is guaranteed to
be an unforgettable experience.
From April 19th the midnight
sun shines in Longyearbyen,
and does not set until August
23rd. Migratory birds return
with the sun to the archipelago,
Spitsbergen Travel/Ragnar Hartvig
Spitsbergen Travel/Venke Ivarrud
the air teems with life and the
mountainsides are covered
with nests. In the summer you
can experience the remote
and unspoiled nature by boat
as you cruise along the coast
of Spitsbergen or join us on
a glacier safari in the nearby
area. Discover specimens of
prehistoric reptiles on our fossil
hunting safaris or enjoy the
panoramic view from a nearby
mountain peak on one of our
hiking trips. We offer a wide
range of excursions all year
around that can be booked
with the hotel reception.
You can also visit
Longyearbyen’s museums and
galleries.
City Facts
Spitsbergen Travel/Tori Hogan
Magical. Quiet.
In the midst of
an adventure
You would think it would
be unbearably cold on an
island situated between the
Norwegian mainland and
the North Pole, but it is not.
Svalbard has, thanks to the
Gulf Stream, a surprisingly
mild climate that varies greatly
between summer and winter.
The winter is dark and magical,
lit by the aurora borealis, while
the summer is cool and full of
pastel colours.
Longyearbyen is the
“capital” of Spitsbergen. This
small and colourful community
of around 2000 citizens has
grown from a small mining
society to a thriving community
which offers guests a wide
variety of services, be they
cultural, outdoor or otherwise.
Longyearbyen also has a wide
range of shops. Did you know
that Longyearbyen is a tax free
area? This means that all goods
and services are without tax.
