Panther News J anuary 5, 2017 “A Shining Forth” “It is better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness.” I believe that is true. But it’s better to light many candles than one small candle, for obvious reasons: more light and heat can be enjoyed from many. Tomorrow, January 6th , we will celebrate Epiphany. Well, maybe we will. Some people probably don’t even realize tomorrow is a religious holiday. It isn’t as well-known as most others. On Epiphany we remember the Wise Men who came from the East, following the star to worship the Baby Jesus. The star has become a symbol of the observance. It shone brightly and pointed the way. Actually, Epiphany means “a shining forth”. One application for us is to shine forth in our Christian faith and point others in the right direction. Using us as an instrument, the Holy Spirit may lead them to come to worship the Christ Child in their lives just as the Wise Men did. We let our light shine and the warmth that radiates from it by our words and actions: daily Christian living. Some light a single candle, others shine forth with the brilliant light of many. Ask God to help you shine forth and proclaim Him King in all you say and do. And . . . Happy Epiphany to you! J. Riedl Pilgrim Kid’s Club is Open! As soon as a decision is made, we will pass that information on to you. A final plan will be in place late-January/early-February as we continue to see what the winter weather will bring us. Oh, the Weather Outside Is Frightful… When the weather turns to snow and ice, you can check for school closures on Facebook, our website, Flash Alert, and local TV and radio stations. School voicemail will not be used for cancellations. The announcement will be posted as soon as possible on TV and radio stations listed below. If Beaverton School Districts close, Pilgrim will generally close also. Athletic and other school event cancellations will be posted on Sycamore in the Flash News section as soon as the information becomes available. If a parent ever believes that weather conditions will create unsafe travel for their student, the school will honor the excused absence, even if school is in session. We have a secret!. Don't worry, it's a good secret and you can share it. :) It is our new Secret Pilgrim Parents Facebook page. I only say it is secret because it is only visible and searchable on facebook if you have been invited. We want to invite you!! This facebook group is for passing along information about the auction, events, needs for volunteers, or gratitude. We are hoping that, in partnership with the Pilgrim Panther, this will provide another way for families to stay informed of ways to be involved with and about our wonderful school. However, in order for us to invite you to join the page, we need the email address with which you signed up for Facebook.. If you are interested in being a part of our "secret" group, please send your email address to me, Daphne Huffman (4th and 2nd grade mom), at [email protected]. Please put "Pilgrim FB page" in the subject line. Music Notes Dear Families, It was so sad to have to cancel our Christmas programs in December due to bad weather. The students had put so much into the program, and it was a great program about Jesus and His birth. At first we were going to try to re-schedule a time to perform, but after weighing many factors, I have decided at this time to NOT try to reschedule the whole program. We will, however, be doing parts of the program during Lutheran Schools Week as part of our Grandparents Day program during chapel. We will try, as well, to perform portions during the Fine Arts Fair at the end of January. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Blessings and Happy New Year! Mrs. Ewing Library News!
