We Need Help on Sports Day!
Sports day is a great event but we need
help to assist at the concession. If you
can donate a little time we would
appreciate it. Please contact the school
and leave your number so the PAC can
give you a shift. If people could help out
for 30 min it would make a huge
difference! Everyone hoping to purchase
treats and drinks will appreciate you too!
Electronic Newsletter
June marks the end of a paper newsletter
here at JT Brown. Please make sure you
will continue to receive communications
from the school by going to our school
website and registering under the E-Mail
List. You can register by going to:
https://www.surreyschools.ca/schools/jt
brown/Pages/default.aspx
This will ensure you get the full color
version of our newsletter. I encourage
you to register now so you receive the
final newsletter via e-mail and the school
start up information in September
keeping you apprised of information
about the first day and the first week.
J.T. Brown News
Principal’s Message:
June is here and with it comes the busy events, which conclude a school year.
While there are many fun events to enjoy, we will also say farewell to many
staff members. We will be very sorry to see our teachers and education
assistants leave and assume other positions in the district. At this time we the
following staff are departing the school:
Mrs. Gaines
Mrs. Warren
Mr. Stephens
Mr. Spence
Ms. Gandham Ms. Smitas
Ms. Li
Ms. Rosenthal
Mrs Gray
Mrs. Boer
Ms. Shoker
Mrs. Tayanova
We wish all these staff well and hope our paths may cross in the future.
Sports Day - We are looking forward to having a great day of fun on Sports
Day which is on June 12th. We will be starting at 9:00 am outside on the
gravel field as a whole school. Then each class will travel together through the
stations located on the grass, gravel field, the gym and the basketball court.
Students will be at stations until approximately 11:30. Students will be having
their hot lunch delivered to their classrooms at 11:30 which will be the start of
lunch. At 12:30 the school will meet on the grass field to enjoy an afternoon
of events. Any student who rides unassisted on a 2 wheel bike may bring their
bike to school and lock it to the back fence. Then in the afternoon they can
demonstrate their skill and balance in the slow bike race. In this race the
winner is the person who crosses the line last. Remember to pack sunscreen, a
hat, and your child’s water-bottle.
Field Trips – June is filled with a variety of field trips for many classes. We
look forward to our students having the opportunity to enjoy all these
experiences. Arranging for transportation however can sometimes be
challenging. Teachers would appreciate hearing promptly from any parents
who are able to drive as it makes arranging these events easier and ensures we
do not have to cancel at the last minute.
Appropriate School attire – As the weather begins heating up, many students
seek to come to school in beach-like attire. Please remember we expect our
students to come in appropriate “business – like” dress. This means students
need to be wearing shoes that protect their feet from the gravel on the field,
shirts that cover the shoulder and bottoms that cover to mid thigh.
Change Drive - The grade 6/7 classes have been working at developing
student awareness of the importance of having clean water. Classes ran a
Change Drive this week and raised $200. These funds will be donated to
“Clean Water”. This group establishes wells in disadvantaged global
communities. Well done grade 6/7 students!
Summer Reading - the staff encourage all our families to regularly use the
Public Library this summer. Enclosed you will find a selection of current
popular reads for students of all ages. We hope your children will enjoy
reading a few.
