PROF. DAVID AMES, GENERAL & AGED PSYCHIATRY
Prof. Ames specialises in old age psychiatry
and particularly the assessment and
management of late life cognitive decline and
dementia. He has extensive experience in the
early diagnosis and management of cognitive
difficulties and has published extensively in
this field.
DR GEORGE ANTONY, GENERAL PSYCHIATRY
Dr Antony is a general adult psychiatrist with
experience in managing complex psychiatric
challenges with a special interest in psychosis
including schizophrenia, mood and anxiety

cognitive behaviour therapy.

DR APARNA CHAWLA, GENERAL PSYCHIATRY
Dr Chawla is a psychiatrist who has gained broad
experience at Monash health in a range of settings
such as acute wards, extended care, crisis teams
and community teams. She also has experience
working with dual diagnosis (addiction and mental
health problems). Areas of interest include anxiety,

Dr Chong is a psychiatrist with a special interest

Dr Chopra trained at St Vincent’s Hospital
Melbourne. His subspecialty interests include
chronic pain management, acceptance
and commitment therapy (ACT), transcultural
psychiatry, integrative medicine and general
psychiatry.
DR TANYA CLIFTON, GENERAL & AGED PSYCHIATRY
Dr Clifton predominantly manages depressive
and anxiety disorders in adults. Her main
interest is in acceptance and commitment
therapy (ACT). In addition, being an old age
psychiatrist she diagnoses and manages
cognitive impairment and other aged
psychiatric conditions.
DR MITALI DAS , GENERAL PSYCHIATRY
Dr Das is a general adult psychiatrist who has
worked in emergency psychiatry, crisis teams,
secure extended care and rehabilitation, as
well as inpatient and community settings in
Monash and Peninsula Health. Her interests
include treatment of high prevalence
disorders: depression, bipolar affective
disorder, anxiety, OCD, and psychosis.
DR PETER FARNBACH, GENERAL PSYCHIATRY
Dr Farnbach is a general adult psychiatrist
with a special interest in transcranial
magnetic stimulation (TMS) as an additional
treatment option for people with depression.

Dr Fernando has been actively involved in

Dr Mat Gelman is a general adult psychiatrist

private practice. Mat spent 12 years at Peter
Mac Cancer centre. He has a special interest
in logotherapy as originally developed by
Viktor Frankl, treatment resistant depression,
pain disorders and workcover issues.

Dr Gwee is a general adult psychiatrist with
an interest in mood and anxiety disorders,

Dr Jolayemi has significant expertise in general

DR PASAN MANAWADU, GENERAL PSYCHIATRY
Dr Manawadu has significant expertise
in the field of Psychiatry treating patients
with complex mental health issues and an
understanding of cultural perspectives.
Areas of interest include: Anxiety, depression,
bipolar, schizophrenia, personality disorders,
PSD, stress and grief, work cover TAC and DVA.
DR MICHAEL V PIPEROGLOU, GENERAL PSYCHIATRY
Dr Piperoglou has a special interest in bipolar
disorder, depression, ADHD and psychopharmacology. To minimise medication side
effects to enhance compliance he advocates
exercise, fish oil, vitamins, light therapy in
combination with low doses of psychiatric

Dr. Sam is a general psychiatrist with a keen

Dr Swaminathan is committed to a
comprehensive approach to assessment and
management of mental disorders. His main

for psychosis. His current research interest is
in developing biomarkers for early detection
of psychosis.

A/Prof Krishna Vaddadi has extensive experience
in psychiatry of neurological disorders,
(Parkinson’s disease, Neurodegenerative disorders)
and works in Monash Medical Centre Neurology
and in Consultation Liaison service at Monash
Medical Centre. He sees general psychiatry
patients, and is involved in research and teaching.
DR CHRIS WALSH, GENERAL PSYCHIATRY
Dr Walsh has worked as a psychiatrist
since 1985. His psychotherapy integrates
diverse theoretical frameworks, including
cognitive behavioural therapy, gestalt and self
psychology. Special interests include general
adult psychiatry, drug and alcohol counselling,
mindfulness and family consultations.
