Summer Reading Challenge Volunteer
Location: Any of Swindon’s 15 libraries
Time required: Flexible
Duration: Between Saturday 15th July – Saturday 2nd September
Pattern: Weekly
Description
The Summer Reading Challenge runs annually throughout the school summer
holidays. It is produced by The Reading Agency, and delivered by libraries. This
year’s theme will be Animal Agents, illustrated by Tony Ross. Children can sign up at
their local library, and then read six library books of their choice collecting incentives
along the way. Animal Agents will feature a variety of clever creatures, specially
trained to use their skills and natural instincts to unravel mysteries.
If you are aged 14 and above, we really do need your help!
Closing date for volunteer applications is Friday 16th June 2017.
What will I be doing?




Signing children up to the Summer Reading Challenge
Giving out incentives and chatting to them about the books that they have
read
Updating record sheets, preparing certificates, encouraging feedback
Helping with activities e.g. Craft activities
What skills and qualities do I need?






Ability to read confidently
Able to listen and work with children
A love of children’s books
Able to promote a love of literacy
Friendly and approachable
Supportive of the Swindon Library Services

For all roles we require 2 references
Unfortunately we do not currently pay expenses, therefore please choose a
library that is within easy reach
