With great joy I send you season’s greetings. This has been a
wonderful and exciting year at Halstrom Academy, Beverly Hills. Our
students are working hard in their classes and enjoying the many
activities we have had this year.
Curriculum Corner: MAP Testing
Our campus recently wrapped up the Fall MAP Testing window with our
full-time students. As we begin to analyze students’ results, we are
reminded of how valuable the testing platform is for our students! Here
are a few reasons why:
MAP Testing measures the incredible growth our students make
at Halstrom Academy. The RIT scale measures student achievement
and growth. It is an equal-interval scale, like feet and inches, so the
scores make it possible to follow a student’s educational growth from
test to test and from year to year.
MAP Testing helps our teachers meet the needs of every
student. Because the MAP tests give us scores that are accurate and
reliable, teachers can use the data to pinpoint where each student is
performing and deliver instruction directly related to that performance
level.
Normative Data reveals a student’s progress in relation to his or
her grade-level peers. By comparing a student’s RIT score to the
normative data, we can track how a student is performing in
comparison to students in his or her grade level. We can use this
information to determine whether a student needs additional support or
an advanced course to get the most out of his or her educational
experience at Halstrom!
If you have questions about MAP Testing, please contact your Campus
Director.

Message from the Director
Halstrom Fun!
This semester we’ve been
having a ton of fun events
on campus. Between the
field trips and Halloween
festivities, the students have
done a wide variety of
activities. We’re looking
forward to having more!
We are incredibly excited to continue
our 2016-2017 academic year. This
promises to be a year filled with golden
opportunities for all of our students as
we strive to find ways we can be even
better than we have before! We
embark on this journey with a pledge to
you, our students and parents, that this
will be a year of engaging, meaningful
and rigorous work in our classrooms,
combined with special events and a
clubs and activities. During the 201617 school year, we will continue to
build upon and refine our proven

The holiday season is a time to reflect on our gifts and to be grateful for
all we have. I would like to ask you to join Halstrom Academy
in giving back. I'm sure you remember the 2010 Haiti earthquake. This
earthquake was so devastating that 700 children were left orphaned. For
the last four years, GIVE HOPE GLOBAL has been working in Haiti to build
four orphanages, aqua-systems, aqua-fisheries, stables for farm animals
and gardens to help sustain the children at each facility. Give Hope Global
teaches and provides the children with the tools needed to help rebuild their
country.
On October 4, 2016, Hurricane Matthew's eye was headed directly into their
path. Although it is the safest and most strongly built orphanage, it is
equipped to hold only 120 children. The good news is that all 700 children
are okay, however, the three other orphanages are completely gone. It is
estimated that it will take $3-4 million dollars to rebuild all that was lost.
Please join our student government as we give back in gratitude for all we
have! To help, please visit: https://www.gofundme.com/supportgivehopeglo
All contributions will go directly to the Hurricane Matthew clean up
effort and are tax deductible. We appreciate your willingness to give back
at such an important time of year.
