Itinerary is Subject to change. Revised April 14, 2016 November 8, 2016 Tuesday, some of us will be meeting at Peggy Sue's Diner in Barstow on Tuesday afternoon & spending the night there. Day 1. Nov 9 Wednesday, Meet at Peggy Sue's, 50s, Diner in Barstow. Exit 191 off – I 15 North of Barstow. Breakfast on your own. We will depart from Peggy Sue's at 9:00 AM sharp. We will caravan to Furnace Creek Ranch in Death Valley. At 10:00 AM we should be in Baker, Exit and travel West Hwy 127 to Shoshone, we will be in Shoshone around 11:30 AM. We can eat lunch (on your own.) at Shoshone. Depart Shoshone at 12:30 PM. or earlier. We will travel Hwy 127 for a few miles to Hwy 190, take a left toward Death Valley, we should arrive around 3:00 PM. Upon arrival at Furnace Creek Ranch, we will take the first road on the right toward Sunset Camp, drive about 500 ft, we will turn left into the overflow camp ground. If the Ranger is not there, we will select our camp sites and then after setting up camp, go across the street to the Ranger Headquarters, pay your camping fee and obtain your National Park Auto Pass. (Use your Golden Age Passport for discount on camping fees.) Happy hour at 4:00 pm Daily, Day 1, Heavy Hors D’oeuvre’s dinner on your own. Bring plenty of assorted hors d'oeuvre' to share at our many happy hour's. Breakfast daily at my campsite 7:30 AM. to 8:30 AM. Bring table & chairs. (Utensils, Cups & plates will be furnished at all meals.) Dinners will be at my campsite 6:00 PM daily Day 2, Nov10th. Thursday, Breakfast 7:30 AM. to 8:30 AM., Oatmeal, Sweet Rolls, Coffee, OJ and Fruit. Leave at 9:00 AM for a day trip to Scotty’s Castle for a tour & sight seeing. Take a lunch, water & camera. After visiting the Castle we will travel 8 1/2 miles west of Scotty's Castle via Grapevine Ranger Station to view the Ubehebe Crater. A violent volcanic explosion left this crater, which measures nearly 1 mile wide & 500 feet deep. On our return trip we will stop off at Stovepipe Wells. Then on our way we will stop off at the Harmony Borax area to view the 20 Mule team freight wagon, ore bunkers etc. return to camp. 4:30 PM. Happy hour & hors d'oeuvre'. Dinner at 6:00 pm Meal is potluck dinner, we will Bring Main Dish & home made Italian bread (Let us know what you will be bringing, e-mail Betty at [email protected]. Or call her at 951-218-6602, she will coordinate the meal) Day 3 Nov 11th, Friday, Breakfast 7:30 AM. to 8:30 AM. Scramble Eggs, Biscuits and Sausage Gravy, Fruit, OJ and Coffee. After Breakfast take your lunch, water & camera. Leave at 9:00 AM. We will travel up to Rhyolite to view the Ghost town & abandon gold mines then an off-road tour through Titus Canyon, (lf the Canyon is open to automobiles at this time.) Titus Canyon one of the largest and most scenically diverse canyons in the park. Accessible to high clearance vehicles via a one way 26 mile dirt road.. Happy hour at 4:30 PM. & hors d'oeuvre'. Dinner 6:00 PM: Tri Tip, Roasted Potatoes Salad & Dessert. Free Day: Day 4, Nov 12th. Sat, Breakfast7:30 AM. to 8:30 AM. Mexican Breakfast Burrito, Refried Beans, Fruit, OJ and Coffee. Free day, do as you please. Enjoy the 49'ers activities. 4:30 PM Happy hour and hors d'oeuvre'. Dinner on your own. There is a great restaurant at Furnace Creek Ranch just across the way from our camp area. You will like their food. Day 5 Nov 13th, Sunday, Breakfast7:30 AM. to 8:30 AM Pancakes, Sausage , fruit, OJ and Coffee, 9:00 am.drive to Devils Golf Course then onto Badwater, the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere at 282 ft below sea level, This is surreal landscapes of vast salt flats. View the Natural Bridge, a massive rock span across the desert canyon, a ½ mile hike for the hardy (take your camera and water). We will drive thru Artist Drive . A scenic loop drive through of multi-hued volcanic and sedimentary hills, (very colorful.) The 9 mile paved road is one-way only and is only drivable to vehicles less than 25’ in length, We will drive to Zabriskie point, surrounded by a maze of wildly & vibrant colored badlands. A beautiful place to view and amazing sunrise or sunset. 4:30 PM. Happy hour & hors d'oeuvre'. 6:00 PM. Dinner will consist of Grilled Salmon, Garlic Baked Potatoes, Veggie, Rolls and Dessert. Day 6 Nov 14th, Monday7:30 AM Break away breakfasts. Hash Brown, Sausage, Scrambled Eggs, Fruit, OJ and Coffee Happy Trails, have a safe trip home. 2
