MARJORIE MERRIWEATHER POST’S HILLWOOD MUSEUM & GARDENS,
FEATURING HIGH TEA
Situated in Northwest Washington, the Hillwood Museum, Estate and Gardens is a lush enclave in the middle of the city.
Marjorie Merriweather Post, heiress to the Post cereal fortune, purchased the twenty-five acre estate overlooking
Washington's Rock Creek Park in 1955.
Upon Ms. Post’s passing, her children opened up Hillwood Estate to the public and it has since become one of the premier art
collector's museums in the United States. The museum features the most comprehensive collection of Russian imperial art
outside of Russia and a world-renowned collection of eighteenth-century French decorative art and furnishings.
Your guests will explore, weather permitting, the outdoors of the twenty-five acre estate that provides visitors a tranquil oasis
of luscious formal gardens as well as the green house that displays hundreds of prize-winning orchids. At Hillwood, your guests
will enjoy the sophistication of urban life within a peaceful and inviting setting.
Guests will enjoy High Tea at the Hillwood Café after the tour.
FIRST LADIES THROUGH HISTORY TOUR
Be inspired by our First Ladies’ contributions in history, protocol, and couture as guests visit some of Washington’s iconic sites.
The first stop will be the Museum of American History’s First Ladies Exhibit where guests will study the Inaugural gowns worn
by First Ladies from Grant to Michelle Obama along with other examples of First Ladies contributions to the role of the White
House. A section titled “Changing Times, Changing First Ladies” highlights the roles played by Dolley Madison, Mary Lincoln,
Edith Roosevelt, and Lady Bird Johnson and their contributions to their husband’s administrations.
After this brief respite, guests will continue on to Tiny Jewel Box, DC’s favorite jewelry store located on Connecticut Avenue.
Viewing the Tiny Jewel Box has had distinctive privilege of creating custom gifts for some of our country’s political elite from
Presidents to Heads of State such as the robin blue leather journal, shown above, that was created especially for Mrs. Bush at
her request.
UNITED STATES NATIONAL ARBORETUM
The United States National Arboretum is located in Northwest DC, and boasts many exhibits including plants from all over the
world. These exhibits include, Asian Collections, Azalea Collections, Dogwood Collections, Holly and Magnolia Collections,
National Grove and State Trees, National Herb Gardens, Perennial Collections, and the Washington Youth Garden, and many
more! Your group will be given a private tram tour which highlights the 446 acres of the U.S. National Arboretum’s gardens,
collections and natural areas.
During the non-stop ride, guests will hear an informative, taped narrative about the Arboretum, its history, mission, and
research, and the display gardens and collections. After 70 years, American bald eagles have returned to the Arboretum. While
tour detours may be in affect during nesting, your guests may be fortunate to see this majestic bird.
Depending on the season, guests will observe the Arboretum in a full-scale representation of nature’s absolute beauty. The
National Bonsai and Penjing Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., so plan to visit this collection first if you visit late
in the day.
DUMBARTON GARDENS AND TUDOR PLACE
Your guests will be taken through the fashionable neighborhood of historic Georgetown. The CSI tour guide will point out the
homes where such notable Washingtonian’s John and Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor and Senator John Warner, Kitty Kelly and
more have lived.
The first stop is a visit to the landmark mansion and stately grounds of Tudor Place. Tudor Place stands alone in the nation’s
capitol as a house of architectural distinction lived in by succeeding generations of the Peter family, 1805-1984. The Peter
family was closely tied to George Washington, the Marquis de Lafayette, Robert E. Lee and others who have shaped America’s
history. These historical connections are vividly illustrated by the varied contents of the house, such as the Mount Vernon
furnishings which the Peters brought to Georgetown. The visitors’ book contains such names as Henry Clay, Daniel Webster and
John C. Calhoun.
Guests will also enjoy strolling in the gardens which lie just outside of the mansion. The lush gardens retain the expanse of
green lawns, parterres and woodland developed by the Peters in the Federal period. In addition, each generation made its
contributions to this distinctly Southern garden.
U.S. CAPITOL BUILDING
On the city’s most prominent hill lies Washington’s most spectacular structure, The U.S. Capitol. Today’s visit will take your
through this magnificent building where the laws of the land are still being created. Within the building, amaze at Bernini’s
“Apotheosis of Washington” in the Rotunda, learn the secret of Statuary Hall and visit the many nooks and crannies of this
impressive structure.
Guests will be offered a rare glimpse of the Capitol as their tour continues within the Congressional chambers of the buildings.
These unique tours are available during the day or in the evening. The number of visitors able to tour the building each day is
limited due to security considerations. Tours to view the public spaces within the Capitol are arranged through the offices of the
Senate or House of Representatives in advance. Scheduling and availability of private chamber tours are at the discretion of
their offices and will be confirmed prior to offering your tours.
Special Considerations: Requests are required a minimum of two weeks in advance. This tour can be canceled at anytime with
the sole discretion of the US Government for official government business. This tour is only available Saturday, Sept. 6, 2016
during the day.
BIKE THE SIGHTS
View many of Washington, DC's magnificent monuments and sights on this tour. Knowledgeable and entertaining guides will
lead guests on a historical, architectural, cultural, and informative experience while visiting over 55 landmarks in 3 hours.
Touring the Nation's Capital by bicycle gives guests an opportunity to visit many memorable and sometimes remote places that
they would otherwise miss.
Guests will be transferred by motor coach to downtown Washington where the biking equipment and staff are located. Guests
will be provided with a 21- or 24-speed bicycle fitted to their appropriate size. Helmets, water bottles, and a light snack are also
provided. Additional items may be included for day trips and custom tours. The standard tour is roughly eight miles, and it sure
beats walking! Terrain is mostly flat with one short hill: it is called Capitol Hill for a reason. The tour is on paved and gravel
paths. No street riding is required.
Professional biking guides are professionally licensed and trained in CPR and First Aid. A list of all individuals and their heights
are needed so we may fit each rider with the appropriate size bike. Make certain you are in good health and in sufficient
physical condition to handle the exertion caused by gentle bicycle riding. Tours are designed to be completed at a relaxing pace
and for the "occasional" exerciser. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
WALKING FOOD TOUR OF GEORGETOWN
Come sample 250+ years of history and cuisine as guests explore historic yet chic charm of Georgetown in Washington D.C. in
this wonderful and exciting food tour. Georgetown is also known for high end real estate and fashion. The tour will collaborate
high cuisine, long standing institutions and innovative experiences. The culture of this walking tour is apparent by just looking
around at the original buildings on these streets. Guests will learn about the architecture of the structures. They will taste
recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation but have also evolved just as this neighborhood did.
In addition to the tasty food, guests will also be sampling select beers and wines, as well as locally brewed coffees. This food
tour leaves guests enchanted with the Georgetown area; they will not want to leave! Special Considerations: This is a walking
tour therefore comfortable shoes and clothing are recommended.
GOLF AT EAST POTOMAC GOLF COURSE
East Potomac Golf Course is located in the District of Columbia and is part of the National Park System. This course hosts over
90,000 rounds of golf per year, and is situated between the National Mall and the Memorial Park District. To align their shots,
golfers actually focus on the Washington Monument for guidance. This tour includes lunch. Quoted pricing is for Friday,
September 9, 2016.
SEGWAY TOUR
City Segway Tours was the very first Segway tour company in the world, so when you ride with us you know you are getting
years of unrivaled experience. You will see more with City Segway Tours than any other Segway tour. All of our tour guides are
officially licensed by the District of Columbia and provide great insight into our nation's capital. We are one of the highest rated
tours in DC, check us out on TripAdvisor. Lastly, our group sizes are small and personal. That means you'll have time to stop,
take pictures, and ask questions, throughout the tour as well as having easy access to our tour guides who can provide you with
great insight for your time in DC.
