Opium War ~ Tuning in
Purpose: Is to write some facts about the opium war
Opium is a terrible drug that can affect people’s health
once it has been dried eaten or smoke. The opium is
from a type of poppy called the opium plant. After
drinking the opium, there would be some strange feelings
like you feel sleepy and uncontrollable. Sometimes you will
also ask for more opium too.
In 1792, King George 111 the king of England and
Qianlong the emperor of China has always been selling
things to each other. Before the 17 centuries and after,
British citizens always have loved the Chinese tea and
kept on drinking it. But, when the British sold there tea
to china, only a few people liked it. There fore, the King
was disappointed about the money and the costumers he
had so the king made a plan. In the 18th centuries, he
ordered a ton of opium from India to persuade the china
citizens to smoke opium. The plan worked and soon lots
of people smoke opium. In return, British had Chinas
siliver. Soon, when China emperor realizes that the
British are trading Opium for silk immediately, the China
Emperor banned British selling opium. But, the British
ignored the rule and continued to sell the opium.
The problem got worse and worse citizens got
addicted to opium that British were still selling. Because
of this situation, Len Ze Xu destroyed more than 30,000
chest of opium and that was the first opium war. After
the 1st opium war, the British were extremely mad that
they declared a 2nd opium war on 1839-1842.
Unfortunately, China lost and British took over Hong
Kong Island. China and Britain signed a document that
said on 1997 Hong Kong would be China’s again.
