FOURTH GRADE

Reading
Our story for next week
is a folktale called
“Stormalong.”
“Stormalong” is about a
thirty foot tall sailor
named Alfred Bulltop Stormalong.
We will be focusing on inferencing
and understanding a character’s
thoughts, words, and actions. The
final test over the folktale will be on
Thursday, October 2nd. The next
literature book assignment will be
due on Friday, October 3rd.
Math
Students began Topic 4 in
Envision on Tuesday. This
topic covers addition,
subtraction, and mental
math strategies. Thank you
for continuing to practice all the
math facts at home with your child!
Social Studies Your
child will be taking their
West states, capitals, and
postal abbreviations quiz
on Tuesday, September 30th. Thank
you for helping your child study.
We’re learning about, The Pledge of
Allegiance, the history of the
American flag and “The Star
Spangled Banner.” Students will
spend time in class reading and
interpreting the meaning of our
national anthem. Next week, we will
be learning about our national
symbols.
Science
We have been
busy learning about trees.
This week we discussed the
usefulness of trees. Our
focus next week will be on the parts
of the tree and the two different
types of trees: deciduous and
coniferous.
Writing
All students have
begun typing their Oreo
narratives. We’ll be
practicing the “Show-Not-Tell”
writing strategy in class next week.
The grammar skill for next week
covers capitalization of titles and
historical events.
Spelling
The next spelling
list (5) is coming home with
your child today. The final
test will be on Thursday, October
2nd. Thank you for helping your child
practice their spelling words each
day!
