2 011 COACHING STAFF
Max Weber
Chad Bodnar
7th Season
Head Coach,
Men’s and Women’s Soccer
4th Season
Assistant Soccer Coach,
Men’s & Women’s Soccer
Max Weber begins his fourth year as a member of
the Warrior Soccer staff. Weber will assist both the
Men’s and Women’s teams and will focus primarily
with on the field training and will be assisting heavily with recruting for both
programs.
Chad Bodnar has just finished his fourth season
at the helm of the Warrior Men’s Soccer program.
The 2010 program finished 9-5-3. The 2009 Warrior
Men won the East Region for the fifth time in six years and made it all the
way to the NWAACC Championship game finishing with a 14-4-1 record.
The 2008 men’s squad finished the season as NWAACC Champions and
East Region Champions with a 18-3-2 overall record. The 2007 men’s team
finished with a record of 16-4-3 and advanced to the NWAACC Quarterfinals.
Prior to his coaching career Max had a very successful playing career at
both WWCC and then Whitman College. A team captain at both colleges,
Max was selected as Academic All-Conference in each season. Max was
a two-year starter for the Warrior program and led the WWCC Men’s team
to a 2nd place finish in the 2005 NWAACC Championships. Max then
went on to finish his playing career at Whitman College where he captained the team and led them to one of their best finished in team history.
In his senior season at Whitman, Max received the 2008 R.V. Borleske
Trophy for top male athlete.
In his seven seasons in charge of the women’s program at WWCC Bodnar
compiled a school best 139-6-5 record and added the programs third, fourth,
fifth, sixth, seventh, and now eighth consecutive Eastern Region Titles to its
belt. This past season, the Warrior Women won their second consecutive
NWAACC Championship to go along with the programs first NWAACC
Championship in 2009. The 2010 finished with a 22-0-2 record. The 2005
Warrior Women, Bodnar’s first season, ran off 26 straight games unbeaten
before falling in the NWAACC Championship in Overtime. In 2006 the Warrior
women again lost in the final in double overtime after winning the East region
Title. The 2007 Warrior squad again won the Eastern Region Championship
and reached the NWAACC Championship before falling 2-1. The 2008
season saw the women win 24 straight matches before falling in the NWAACC
championship. Coach Bodnar was named the NE Region Coach of the year
in 2005, 2007, and again in 2008 and has placed 11 players combined for the
men and women at Division 1 schools in his first four years.
Quoting Coach Bodnar, “Since Max arrived as a freshman he has been a
big part of our program’s success both on and off the field and we look forward to having him back in the program. His influence on the environment
here has been tremendous. He’s competitive, responsible, and a very hard
working individual who brings a real presence to the locker rooms and field
for both teams. We are thrilled to have added such a qualified and proven
individual to the WWCC Soccer coaching staff.”
Weber is currently the Technical Director for Three Rivers Soccer Club.
Bodnar worked as an assistant with the Women’s program during the 2001
season in which the Warriors were NWAACC finalists. He then took some
time away from the program as he joined the Boise Capitals Soccer Club in
Idaho as a Youth Director before he rejoined the Warriors in 2003. Bodnar
also assisted the Men’s program at WWCC that went to three consecutive
NWAACC Final Four Tournaments.
Prior to his appointment with Walla Walla CC, Bodnar succeeded as the Head
Coach of the Pasco High School boys program in the Big Nine 4A Conference
in Washington. The Bulldogs qualified for State 4A tournament play multiple
times and finished the 2005 season as Washington State finalists after
winning the Eastern Regional Tournament and Big Nine Championship.
Bodnar was named the 2005 ‘All Region Coach of the Year’ by the Tri-City
Herald for his performance.
A former Big Nine All Conference selection and USYSA Western Region
IV team selection as a youth player, Bodnar went on to start four years
for Wisconsin-Green Bay (NCAA Division I) and earn Midwest Collegiate
Conference all-conference honors 2 years. He was named team captain his
sophomore through senior seasons and was the team MVP in 1998. Upon
completion of his eligibility, Bodnar played professionally for the Stanislaus
United Cruisers in the Western Conference USSL League in California and
for the Yakima Reds In the PDL League in Washington. Bodnar then came
home to finish his schooling and graduated from Washington State University
with a degree in Humanities.
Bodnar’s previous coaching experience also includes guiding the Allouez
United boys club team to an appearance in the final of the Midwest Regional
Championships as well as work in the Wisconsin-Green Bay Soccer Camps
and with Ziemer Brothers Soccer Camps in California. Coach Bodnar holds
an NSCAA Premier Diploma and a USSF A License as well.
Bodnar is currently a staff coach for Idaho Olympic Development Staff and is
the Three Rivers Soccer Club Coaching Director. He has transferred over 30
kids to 4-year schools from WWCC.
Coach Bodnar is married to wife Lindsay and resides in Pasco, WA.

W ARRIORS IN THE CO MMUNITY
In addition, Warrior Soccer is home to the Blue Mountain Exchange held every March for girls at the TCYSA Complex in
Pasco and for boys in Walla Walla, WA. Held in co-operation
with Three Rivers and the Blue Mountain Soccer Club, the Blue
Mountain Exchange attracted better than 100 Premier teams
to the region from across the Northwest and Canada. The
Exchange has grown into an annual event featuring an NCAA
Showcase and lively entertainment throughout the weekend to
augment the high level of play on the field. The Blue Mountain
Exchange has become a vital part of the spring economy in Walla
Walla and the Tri Cities and an annual event on the Northwest
Soccer calendar.
The Warrior Soccer Program is very active in the local Walla
Walla community and involved in several outreach programs to
work with local youth. Current and former Warrior players will be
working again this school year to provide mentors for the local
Walla Walla Parks and Recreation community program and also
to provide technical coaching for the Blue Mountain Soccer Club. Players are licensed through the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and spend at least one evening a week with
the children. In addition, coach Bodnar is an active speaker with
the ‘Educational Talent Search’ and ‘Gear Up’ programs which
reaches out to children in the elementary and secondary schools
in the Walla Walla Valley. Coach Bodnar also hosts local coaching
clinics for youth coaches around the Walla Walla Valley.
With a very active scholarship initiative to reach at risk youth, the
Warrior camp and academy program attracted over 150 players
from ages 5-12 years of age over the 2008-09 school year. With
our mentoring program entering its fourth year with Walla Walla
Youth Soccer in place for this coming Fall, we hope to effect close
to 1000 athletes in the Walla Walla Valley Community.

In Brief:
Courtney joined the Warrior program from Southridge High School where
she was a CBBN 1st Team All-Conference selection in 2007 and 2008.
In addition, in 2008 Courtney was honored as a WIAA All-State 2nd team
selection. She was also a Tri-City Herald All-Area 1st Team honoree.
Courtney’s athleticism and work rate are difficult to find in goalkeepers
and we look for her to improve and adjust to the collegiate game quickly
and become a standout goalkeeper for the Warrior program. She had
a very solid freshman campaign as she backed up sophomore Jordan
Simkins in the Warrior net. We look for Courtney to continue the legacy of
outstanding Warrior goalkeepers during her sophomore year.
In Brief:
Jordan joins the Warrior program from Payette High School where she
was the most decorated girl’s soccer player in school history. During her
high school career, Jordan amassed 87 goals and 25 assists. She was the
2009 and 2010 team MVP, 2010 Tema Captain, 2008-2010 Snake River
Valley All Conference, 2010 Snake River Valley Player of the Year, and a
2010 selection for the 3A Idaho All-State Team. Jordan played an integral
role in leading her high school team to two 3rd place finishes at the Idaho
State Championships, a 2nd place finish, and as a junior to a State Championship. We look forward to the addition of Jordan to the Warrior attack
and look for her athleticism, pace, and goal scoring ability to be a fixture
for the Warriors as she adjusts to the speed of the college game. Jordan
will look to fill some of the void left by the graduation of Margo Hickman
and Justine Jones from the 2010 Warrior frontline. 2010 Stats: GS- 4, GP-12, ShutOuts-1, GPG- 0.14

In Brief:
Heather came to the Warrior program from Sentinel High School in
Missoula, Montana. During her high school career Heather was a 2009
Montana All-State selection and was 2009 MVP as she led her Sentinel

to the classroom where she was an Academic All-State honoree form
2006-2009. She played her club soccer for Missoula Strikers. In addition,
Heather represented Montana in the Shodair Soccer Classic as a senior.
Heather continued in the strong line of Montana influence for the Warrior

In Brief:
Ali is another Warrior product from Mountain View High School. Skogrand is one of
the best all-around athletes the Warrior program has seen in recent years. Ali was
a two year captain for Mountain View and was recognized as a 2008 All-District selection. Ali led her Mountain View team to its first ever state trophy in 2009 as they
took 3rd place. She played her club soccer for Boise Capitals where she was influential in their 2007 Idaho State Championship and quarterfinal run at Regionals. Ali
was honored as Southern Idaho Conference Academic Award from 2007-2009. In

look for her quality, athleticism, and pace to play an immediate role for the
Warrior backline. Kie had an outstanding high school and club career and
we look for her talents to grow and improve in our system and look for Kie
to add in the long list of outstanding Warrior defenders. #14

Peyton joins the Warrior program from Skyview where she was teammates
with Warrior alumni, Dominique Alston (Boise State). Peyton had a much
heralded high school career. As a senior, Peyton was honored as a 4A
1st Team All-Conference Midfielder. As a junior, she was a 4A 1st Team
All-Conference forward and a 1st Team All-Conference defender as a
sophomore. She was a team MVP and SIC All-Area Athlete as a senior, led
her Skyview team to a 2007 State Runner-Up placing and 3rd place as a junior. In addition, she was selected as “Top 5 Players to Watch” as a senior
heading into the State Championships and was a four year Southern Idaho
Conference Academic Award selection. Peyton played her club soccer for
powerhouse FC Nova and is another Nova product the Warrior program is
excited to have. She was a key member to two State Cup Championships
for FC Nova. She also was an Idaho ODP player and Girl’s Region IV pool
player. We look for Peyton to adjust to the college game quickly with her
athleticism and continue in the line of outstanding forwards for the Warriors.

2 0 11 SEASON PREVIEW–WOMEN
The 2011 Warriors come off their second consecutive NWAACC Women’s Soccer
Championship (2009 and 2010) and will look to match the success and carry on a
steady tradition of excellence. The 2010 Warriors were Eastern Region Champions for
the 8th consecutive season and were NWAACC Finalist for the seventh time in the programs history. The 2010 Warriors sent 7 players to four year schools including; two to
Suns to a 3A State Final Four appearance as a senior and was a Washington State
3A 1st Team All-State selection. Twin sister, Meghan Sorensen (Southridge HS / Kennewick, WA) will join her sister Paige and the Warrior midfield this season. Meghan was
a 3A Washington All-State defender, but due to her versatility will see minutes alongside
her twin in the midfield and also in the Warrior backline. The Warrior coaching staffs
are looking for the Sorensen twins to bring their toughness and work rate to fill some of
the holes left by graduation. Another midfield standout joining the Warriors is Kathryn
Knowlton (Centennial HS / Boise, ID) and with her size, strength, and aggress style Kat
will be looked to be an immediate presence in the midfield. Knowlton comes from a long
line of FC Nova players to join the Warriors. Another FC Nova product, Marie Monasterio (Boise HS / Boise, ID) will look to compete for minutes in the Warrior midfield. Monasterio was a key cog for one Idaho State Championship during her high school career.
Darenda Miller (Columbia HS / Nampa, ID) will look add depth to the Warrior midfield as
she adjusts to the college game. Division I programs in Dominique Alston (Boise State University) and Marianne Johnson (Eastern Washington University), two Division II transfers in Lena Miraglio (Grand
Canyon University) and Jordan Simkins (Metro State), and three NAIA transfers in
Margo Hickman and Justine Jones (Westminster College) and Brittney Lacey (College of Idaho). The 2010 Warriors also added 7 players to the NWAACC East AllConference team. The 2011 version will look to continue the success and will be very
gifted in terms of ability.
Head Coach Chad Bodnar states, “We are much younger then we have been in the
past few seasons with losing such an outstanding group of sophomores who won two
NWAACC Championships, but we are excited about our incoming girls and getting
some players back who missed last season due to injury. There are some definite holes
to be filled and there will be plenty of competition to see who earns minutes where and
when. The legacy the graduating class left will be the goal for the continuing players to
carry on and the new players to understand as we look to defend our NWAACC title.” The Warriors saw Marianne Johnson (Pasco HS / Pasco, WA), Becky Ryerse (Mountainview HS / Boise, ID), Jaymie Balcom (Central Valley HS / Spokane, WA), and Brittney
Lacey (Capital HS / Boise, ID) all graduate, with Johnson playing at Eastern Washington
University and Lacey at the College of Idaho.
Bodnar states “We also very young in the middle of the park this season after losing
such talented players. Although we are young, we have a lot of options in terms of
what we can do with our shape and adjustments to what the match may require. I am
excited about this group of midfielders because there is a great mix of very technical
players, and players with motors that don’t stop. I am very curious to see how things
shake out in our starting eleven because any one of these players could be on the field
on a given day.”
Forwards
The Warriors lose the NWAACC leading goal scorer a year ago and NWAACC East
MVP in Margo Hickman (Mountainview HS / Boise, ID). Hickman scored 46 goals over
her two seasons with the Warriors, so those shoes will be difficult to fill. In addition, the
Warriors graduated fellow front runner Justine Jones (Borah HS / Boise, ID) who was
the 2010 NWAACC Final Four MVP. Returning to the Warrior attack are Kaylie Winston
(Pasco HS/ Pasco, WA) who during her freshman campaign scored 18 goals and had
7 assists and was a NWAACC East All-Star. The Warriors will lean on Winston to carry
the offensive load with a very young Warrior attack as she will captain the team in 2011
In addition, Sami Hansen (Borah HS / Boise, ID) will return to the Warrior frontline after
suffering a season ending injury that cut short her very promising freshman season.
Hansen looks good in training camp and it is the hope that she can regain her form.
Shae Yuma (Roseburg HS / Roseburg, OR) will also be looked to contribute in the goal
scoring category with her pace as she contributed 7 goals as a freshman.
Defenders
The Warrior back line will look to build off of the 2010 success in only allowing 10 goals
on the way to the Warrior second consecutive NWAACC Championship. The Warriors
graduate two-time NWAACC All-Star Centerback Lena Miraglio (Grand Canyon University) and two-time NWAACC All-Star Fullback Dominique Alston (Boise State University). The 2011 backline returns NWAACC East All-Region centerback and 24 game starter
Heather Krebsbach (Sentinel HS / Missoula, MT). In addition, Samantha Johnson (University of Nevada-Reno / Woodriver HS / Ketchum, ID) will again anchor the Warrior
backline and will provide an instant attacking presence with her pace. Johnson was a
NWAACC All-Star as a freshman as well.
Joining the Warrior attack will be some very promising talents from around the Northwest. Peyton Moon (Skyview HS / Nampa, ID) is a talented goal scorer
(4A 1st Team All-Conference Forward and Idaho “Top 5 Players to Watch”). Moon also
was a prominent figure for a very talented FC Nova (Boise, ID) club team. The Warriors
will look for Peyton to add immediate goal scoring capability to the 2011 attack. Jordan
Rodriguez (Payette HS / Payette, ID) joins the program with great excitement from the
Warrior coaching staff about Jordan’s pace and goal scoring record in high school.
Rodriguez was the most decorated player and goal scorer for Payette and although it
will take her time to adjust to the college game the Warriors are very excited about the
addition. Gabriella Kurz (Kamiakin HS / Kennewick, WA) will look to bring her athleticism and skill to the Warrior frontline and she will challenge for minutes up front as she
adapts to the physicality of the college game.
Joining the Warrior backline are some very highly touted defenders in Kahiesha Johnson (Hanford HS / Richland, WA) and Chynna Dickey (Richland HS / Richland, WA).
Johnson was the 3A CBBN Co-Conference Player of the Year and we are thrilled to
have Kie bring her toughness, athleticism, and skill to fill in the role vacated by Lena
Miraglio. Kie will play alongside Krebsbach in the central of defense. The Warriors are
figuring on Dickey coming in and earning a spot as an outside back with her pace and
skill on the left side. Emily Jordan (University HS / Spokane, WA) also joins the Warrior
backfield and will look to provide depth. The Warrior coaching staff do not figure to have
a let down in the back with the loss of key players and are excited about the additions.
“Coach Bodnar states: It will be an interesting dynamic for us in the front line this year.
We are curious to see which of the freshman will step up and embrace that role of scoring goals. We will look for Kaylie to have another great season up front for us. We have
a number of versatile players that can play in the midfield or in the frontline, so this will
add much needed depth. We have some very talented players and we are hoping to
see them play to their full potential.”
“We are a backline with 2 known players and some very young players that will have to
find their way a bit. The nice thing is this group is incredibly versatile and has moveable
parts all over. We will move players around and try to fit the pieces of the puzzle. Sam
and Heather will have to lead by example to strengthen the group. But we should be
very strong in the back as usual.”
Goal Keepers
Midfield
The Warriors will have a very young an inexperienced midfield in 2011 with the loss
of quality players who played significant roles in both the 2009 and 2010 NWAACC
Championships. Anchoring the 2011 midfield will be Ali Skogrand (Mountain View HS,
Boise, ID) who sat out her freshman year due to injury. Skogrand looks fit through preseason and is getting better with each passing day. Kara Churchman (Borah HS / Boise, ID) will also look to regain her form after sitting out her freshman season with injury
and the Warrior midfield could be strengthened significantly if Kara’s ability is regained.
The 2011 Warrior Goalkeeping duties will be held by Courtney Hancock (Southridge
HS / Kennewick, WA) who played significant minutes as a freshman behind two-time
NWAACC All-Star Jordan Simkins (Bozeman HS / Bozeman, MT) who is now playing at
Metro State. We look for Courtney to continue to improve every practice and bring her
leadership and experience from her goalkeeping position to the Warrior defense. Joining
Hancock is Hayley Couture (Moscow HS / Moscow, ID) where she was the conferences
Goalkeeper of the Year. Hayley will look to learn under Courtney and gain experience
in the minutes she earns.
Joining the Warrior midfield in 2011 is a few heralded freshmen. Paige Sorensen
(Southridge HS / Kennewick, WA) was a consistent force in the CBBN during her high
school career and was a repeat selection as a CBBN All-Conference selection due to
her constant work rate and toughness. Paige also captained and led her Southridge
“We will look to Courtney to continue in our programs legacy of having one of the best
goalkeepers in the NWAACC. She had a very good spring and we are excited about her
development and believe she will be another good Warrior goalkeeper” states Coach
Bodnar.

2 0 11 SEASON PREVIEW–MEN
The 2011 Warrior Men return 8 players from a 2010 squad that was 9-5-3. The 2010 Warrior Men did not make the playoffs and the incoming talent and returners will look to get
the Warrior men’s program back on track in 2011. The WWCC men will also include 28
new faces that join the squad and will look to make an immediate impact for the Warriors.
The blend of some experienced returners and the addition of new faces will leave the
2011 Warrior men with the task of finding their new identity, continuing the success of the
program, competing for an Eastern Region Championship, and qualifying for the playoffs.
Warrior program will be Colten Sullivan (Kamiakin HS / Kennewick, WA) and Zach Russell
(Southridge HS / Kennewick, WA) who were club teammates, along with McNamar, for
the Washington State Champion Three Rivers SC squad. Sullivan and Russell were both
CBBN All-Conference selections and Russell was the leader for his Southridge Suns 4th
place finish in 3A.
Furthermore, the Warrior midfield add Washington products Alexio Garcia (Davis HS /
Yakima, WA), Jose Espinoza (Wapato HS / Wapato, WA), Eduardo Ramos (Okanogan
HS / Okanogan, WA), and local talent Salvador Esquivel (Walla Walla HS / Walla Walla,
WA) who will all vie for roles in the Warrior midfield and provide depth to many areas as
they all adapt to the pace and physicality of the college game. Lastly, Fredi Rojas (Skyview
HS / Nampa, ID) and cousin of fellow Warrior Jason Vasquez will compete for minutes in
the central of the midfield.
“We have a few solid returners, but we have a lot of incoming talented players fresh off
high school and club careers that will have to adjust to the pace of college soccer. We have
some work to do to be where we need to be at the end of the season, but we are looking
forward to the challenge with a new group of young men.” (Coach Bodnar)
Coach Bodnar states, “We are very excited about the size, athleticism, and overall talent
of our 2011 Warrior midfield. There will be a lot of talented guys competing for minutes and
our depth will allow us to do a variety of different things with shape and attacking preferences. We will look for Mikey to provide some experience and leadership to the young
midfield, but we feel that the players we have brought in will provide us more depth and
flair even with the loss of Mikey Ramos to graduation.”
Forwards
The Warrior attack graduated high school teammates Marco Acevedo (Pasco HS /Pasco,
WA) and Paul Herrera (Pasco HS / Pasco, WA). Both players provided goal scoring for
the Warriors during their two seasons. The Warriors also lose Nick Wood (Richland HS /
Richland, WA) as he has left the program.
The Warrior frontline will look completely different then the past few years with a large
group of talented freshman coming into the fray. The lone returner for the Warrior frontline
is local talent Rene Saldana (Walla Walla HS / Walla Walla, WA) who gave the Warriors
depth and provided some key sparks during his freshman year due to his motor. Leading
the charge for the 2011 campaign will be Erik Vaught (Timberline HS / Boise, ID) who is
coming off a red-shirt season due to a foot injury. Erik has worked hard to get back to the
field and we are very excited about his size, passing ability, and crafty ability in the attack.
Also returning to the Warriors is Evgeny Potanin (Sentinel HS / Missoula, MT / Vishney
Volochok, Russia) who red-shirted his freshman year.
Defenders
The Warriors see the departure of Brady Espinoza (Pasco HS / Pasco, WA) who was a
NWAACC East All-Star centerback and also Tyler Lawton (Mountain View HS / Boise, ID)
another NWAACC All-Star.
The 2011 Warrior backline returns a duo from the 2010 backline in Martin Ramirez (Pasco
HS / Pasco, WA) and Tony Garey (Borah HS / Boise, ID). Ramirez and Garey will have
a lot on their shoulders as they look to anchor the young Warrior backline. Ramirez will
captain the Warriors this season. The coaching staff will look for more consistency from
both players as they enter their sophomore season. Also returning to the Warrior backline
is Charlie Redline (Post Falls HS / Post Falls, ID) who has improved immensely and is a
leader for the Warriors. Louis Poeppel (Pasco HS / Pasco, WA) also returns to the Warriors
after a injury shortened freshman season and will look to recover from a mini-camp injury
to compete for the Warriors.
Joining the Warrior attack are two very promising freshman in Oscar Martinez (Davis HS
/ Yakima, WA), Jonathan Rodriguez (Connell HS / Connell, WA), and Perry McNamar
(Richland HS / Richland, WA) who enter the program after very successful high school
and club careers. Martinez was a CBBN 1st Team selection and led his Davis Pirates in
scoring. Rodriguez was a SCAC 1st Team forward and 2009 SCAC MVP and also led his
Connell team in scoring. McNamar was a CBBN 1st Team forward as well and was the
leading goal scorer in the league. McNamar also was the leading goal scorer for his Three
Rivers SC club team that won the U-18 Washington State Championship. All three highly
touted players join the Warrior attack and the coaching staff is thrilled to add such pace,
toughness, and goal scoring skill to the squad. In addition, the Warriors have added Jason
Vasquez (Skyview HS / Nampa, ID) and Chris Kirkpatrick (Kuna HS / Kuna, ID). Vasquez
is a powerful forward with a great engine and Kirkpatrick has surprised the coaching staff
with his pace. Both players were SIC 1st Team selections as forward and will look to come
in and provide depth to the Warrior attack as they adjust to the college game.
Joining the Warrior backline are some talented young men who had accomplished high
school and club careers. Leading the way are Jesse Macias (Pasco HS / Pasco, WA),
Armando Escobedo (East Valley HS / Yakima, WA), Jake Helm (Bishop Kelly HS / Boise,
ID) Connor Cravens (Southridge HS / Kennewick, WA), and local talent Lupito Salazar
(McLoughlin HS / Milton-Freewater, OR). Macias looks to regain his from from sitting out
last season due to injury, but has come back healthy and strong. Escobedo and Helm
were both 1st Team All-Conference selections and will look to add immediate depth and
quality for the Warrior backline that needs to fill some holes alongside Ramirez and Garey.
Cravens, also a Three Rivers SC player and State Champion will provide size and strength
to the backline. Salazar, whose brother Esteban won a NWAACC Championship with the
Warriors in 2008, will provide pace and toughness to the left side of the backline. Furthermore, Alaska Northstar club teammates Sean Gillam (A.J. Diamond HS / Anchorage,
AK) and Eli Seymour (Robert Service HS / Anchorage, AK) will look to compete for depth
in a few roles for the Warriors as they adapt to the college game. Gillam is shortly out
of recovering from a knee injury that derailed his senior season, but has looked strong
in mini-camp. The WWCC coaching staff agrees that these two Alaska players are the
strongest in the programs history. Lastly, local product Adrian Tello (Walla Walla HS / Walla
Walla, WA) will join the Warriors, and although may be a year away from finding the field is
a talent that the Warriors are very excited about. Angel Niebla (Okanogan HS / Okanogan,
WA) will look to compete for minutes and a role in the backline.
“We have a definite goal scoring threats in the dynamic players we have brought in. There
are a lot of guys competing for a few spots. We have recruited all kinds of different front
runners and we are thrilled to have the depth up top that we lacked in previous years.
We are excited to see what happens and definitely think it will make us a better team as
we will look to score more goals then in years past and be more dangerous in the attack”
Coach Bodnar.
Midfield
The Warrior midfield will be one of youth and depth as the program looks to fill the void
left by two-time NWAACC All-Star Mikey Ramos (University HS / Spokane, WA) who has
transferred to Seattle University. As a freshman, Ramos led the Warriors in scoring with
16 goals and led the league in assist with 10 and again was an NWAACC leader in both
categories before going down with a season ending injury. In addition, consistent starter
Talon Wyatt (Century HS / Pocatello, ID) and Griffen Hoerner (Post Falls HS / Post Falls,
ID) also graduated. Wyatt, now playing at Oregon Institute of Technology, was a 2009
NWAACC All-Region selection while Hoerner was a battle tested leader in the Warrior
midfield whose work ethic was contagious.
“We have a mix of returners and new faces that will anchor the backline for us this year.
They are all very experienced in terms of having played in very high level club games, and
high school finals. Martin and Tony are going to have to anchor this group until the young
ones get their feet wet, but I am positive we will be very solid after we get some experience.
The one thing we have added this year that was missing last year was some size in our
backline. I am hoping this makes us a more rounded group.”
The lone returner to the Warrior midfield is Mikey Luhrs (Meridian HS / Meridian, ID). Mikey
started nearly every year as a freshman and will captain the young Warriors. Luhrs brings
to the midfield leadership, experience, and pace. Joining the Warrior midfield is a selection of very talented and highly touted players starting with Kyle Menchaca (Meridian HS
/ Meridian, ID), who was a high school teammate of Luhrs. Menchaca was the 5A Idaho
Co-Player of the Year and was an ESPN Rise Selection, honoring his talents as one of
the best in the country. Just as exciting is fellow midfielder Kentaro Bodzewski (Ballard
HS / Seattle, WA) who was a 1st Team KingCo selection and will look to immediately impact the Warrior lineup. In addition, Hugo Monroy (Corvallis HS / Corvallis, OR) and Ariel
Chavez (J.M. hanks HS / El Paso, TX) will look to also add immediate impact and quality
to the Warrior midfield. Monroy is a large, technically gifted midfielder who will be key to
the Warriors success. Chavez has a ton of pace and ability and will look to lead the Warrior attack from the midfield as he suits up for a few different roles for the Warriors. 2009
CWAC Co-MVP Luis Alcala (Toppenish HS / Toppenish, WA) also joins the very talented
midfield and will look to adjust to the pace of the college game and add depth and a different style to the midfield. Contining in the long line of successful Tri-Cities players to join the
Goal Keepers
The 2011 Goalkeeping duties will again be down to sophomores Josh Lindsay (Boise
HS / Boise, ID) and Emmanuel Martinez (Pasco HS / Pasco, WA). Both had tremendous
high school and club careers. Josh is a big, physical, athletic goalkeeper who with some
refining technically can be a very steady presence between the pipes. Martinez has every
accolade that a goalkeeper can receive in the state, region, and country. He was selected
to ESPN High Rise High School All-Stars as a senior and is a two-time WIAA All-State performer at Pasco High School. Martinez won a state championship in goal as a freshman
and led his team to another final as a junior. The battle, as during their freshman year, will
be fierce as the coaching staff looks for better form from the goalkeeping position.
“For the second straight year we will look to see who wins the competition between Josh
and Manny for us at goalkeeper. Both played significant minutes as freshman and had
their share of good play and mistakes. We look for both to be better during their sophomore seasons and anchor the Warrior defense” Coach Bodnar
