Physical Development Personal, Social and Emotional Development Within PE lessons we will be exploring different ways of moving and controlling our bodies. We will improve our fine motor skills through completing daily ‘finger gym’ activities and showing off our dance moves in ‘dough disco’. We will use the extensive outdoor area to partake in free flow learning activities such as construction and using the trikes. We will have a weekly ‘let’s go outdoors’ session where we can explore the pond and wooded area. We will be getting to know one another through games, activities and circle time. We will be learning about the class rules and expectations and how to treat one another. We will be looking at books such as The Colour Monster and Colour me Happy to explore different emotions. We will be reading Elmer the Elephant to explore how we are all different and unique. Understanding the World Literacy Key texts: We’re going on a Bear Hunt, Making Faces, The Hungry Caterpillar, The Tiger Who Came to Tea. We will be looking at a variety of different books and story sacks each day. We will practice writing our names and simple sentences. We will be practising mark making in a variety of different activities. We will practice our letter formation and initial sounds in accordance with the Read Write Inc phonics programme. We will begin to fill in our ‘News of the week’ books on a weekly basis. We will be discussing our families, homes and communities. We will talk about the structure of our daily routine both in school and at home. We will talk about birthdays and significant events in our lives. We will discuss the things that make us unique. We will explore our five senses and how we use them. All about me and people who help us. Expressive Arts and Design We will be making use of the art and craft area and the art easel during continuous provision. We will also make different items with junk modelling such as replicas of our houses. We will be making collages similar to those used in the illustrations of The Hungry Caterpillar. We will use clay to make moulds of our hand prints and we will be drawing self portraits. We will also take part in lots of messy play activities. Communication and Language We will be learning how to make lists and use the new vocabulary related to our topic. We will develop our talking and listening skills during chatterbox each week and during regular circle times. We will be concentrating on the initial sounds of words. Mathematics We will be counting up to 20 and looking at one more and one less. We will be sequencing and looking at repeated patterns. We will be categorising items according to their colour and size. We will use mathematical language to describe the size and shape of different objects. Visits/visitors A teddy bears picnic with parents, to be arranged. We will welcome the following visitors into school this half term: Paramedic Fireman
