OCT. 22, 2011 - VS. JOHNS HOPKINS
Field at Musselman Stadium in the conference opener for both teams last season. The Blue
Jays used a 19-0 run spanning the second and third quarters to take control after falling
behind 7-0 on the game’s opening drive. Tucker Michels caught seven passes for 135
yards and one touchdown for Hopkins while Sam Wernick also had seven receptions for
125 yards and a pair of TDs. Tight end Matt Brophy caught seven passes for 147 yards
for Gettysburg while Kyle Whitmoyer passed for 269 yards. Jamel Mutunga ’11 led all
rushers with 83 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
LAST TIME OUT
Gettysburg held Muhlenberg to 220 yards, including just 90 over the final three quarters,
en route to a 14-10 victory over the Mules last Saturday here in Musselman Stadium. The
Bullets, who overcame a season-high five turnovers, trailed 10-0 but outscored the Mules
14-0 in the second and third quarters, as sophomore receiver Aden Twer scored both of
Gettysburg’s touchdowns. He hauled in a 73-yard pass from junior Kody Smith on the
second play of the second quarter, then scored the game-winner on a 19-yard grab with
6:15 remaining in the third quarter. Twer finished the game with five catches for 132 yards
while Smith, sharing time at quarterback with senior Kyle Whitmoyer once again, was
7-for-13 for 134 yards. Whitmoyer rushed for a game-high 80 yards on 12 carries. Junior
linebacker Larry DelViscio led the defense with 13 tackles (11 solo) while senior linebacker
Marc Graziano dealt a career-high 11 hits. Senior cornerback Tyler Fasanella came up
with a clutch defensive play late in the game for the second straight outing, making an
interception with 3:58 left that allowed the Bullets to run out the clock.
After missing a pair of games due to injury, senior quarterback Hewitt Tomlin threw for
390 yards and a pair of touchdowns while rushing for an additional TD as Johns Hopkins
defeated Dickinson 47-6 last Friday night in Baltimore. With the win, the Blue Jays tied the
school record for longest winning streak at 11 games, which is also the third-longest active
winning streak in the NCAA (all divisions). Along with setting the Centennial Conference
record for total offense, he also tied the conference record for most career 300-yard passing
games (nine). The Blue Jays, who were never threatened after scoring the first 10 points,
outgained the Red Devils 632-223. Sophomore receiver Daniel Wodicka piled up 202 yards
on 11 receptions while junior tailback Jonathan Rigaud led all players with 85 yards rushing
and a touchdown.
THE GETTYSBURG OFFENSE
Despite being held to their lowest offensive output of the season in both yardage and point
against Muhlenberg, the Bullets continue to rank among the nation’s leaders in several
offensive categories. After spending two weeks ranked No. 1 in Division III in total offense,
Gettysburg is now second at 525.3 yards per game. The Bullets are also ranked 11th
nationally in scoring (42.1 ppg), 16th in rushing (253.8 ypg), and 30th in passing (271.5
ypg). Though the passing game is exceeding the rush in terms of yardage, the Bullets have
actually scored one more touchdown on the ground (17) than they have through the air (16).
Junior Kody Smith and senior Kyle Whitmoyer have shared time equally at quarterback
in each of the last two games and three times for the season. Smith has passed for 194.5
yards per game while tossing 13 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Whitmoyer has
added 90.6 passing yards per game and a pair of touchdowns. Sophomore receiver Aden
Twer has risen to fifth in Division III in receiving yardage, averaging 129.3 per game while
posting nine touchdown catches - two shy of the single-season school record. Freshman
wing Freddy Caruso has added 23 catches for 66.3 yards per game and two TDs while
senior wing John Pesce has made 13 grabs for 22.0 yards per outing and one touchdown.
Junior tailback Ted Delia ranks second in the Centennial Conference and 34th in Division
III with 106.5 rushing yards per game and has rushed for seven touchdowns. Whitmoyer
has also contributed heavily on the ground, rushing for 55.8 yards per game and four
touchdowns. Smith and freshman Nick Ulassin have also rushed for two touchdowns
apiece.
THE GETTYSBURG DEFENSE
Gettysburg’s defense will look to ride the momentum of its finest performance in two years.
Muhlenberg’s 220 yards were the fewest allowed by the Bullets since holding the Mules to
the same total in 2009, and it was the lowest scoring output by a Gettysburg opponent since
Moravian was held to a field goal in 2009. For the season, junior linebacker Larry DelViscio
has made a team-leading 57 tackles and is tied for third in the Centennial Conference with
9.5 stops per game. He has also made 7.5 tackles for loss, three pass breakups, and an
interception. Senior safety Peter Hak is seventh in the conference with 8.4 hits per game,
while fellow safety Joe Delaney (7.5 tpg) is tied for eighth among the conference leaders in
tackles. Senior linebacker Marc Graziano has added 41 tackles (5.0 for loss) while junior
defensive end Joe Ventresca has made his presence felt in the opponents’ backfield,

leading the Bullets with 9.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. Delaney and senior cornerback

OCT. 22, 2011 - VS. JOHNS HOPKINS
THE GETTYSBURG SPECIAL TEAMS
Senior Rob Pennella, junior Ted Delia, and freshman Nick Ulassin continue to carry
the bulk of the special teams chores for the Bullets. Pennella has accounted for 35
points, making 26-of-27 extra points and 3-of-7 field goals while averaging 37.7 yards per
punt, although freshman Freddy Caruso handled all four of Gettysburg’s punts against
Muhlenberg. Delia continues to lead the conference in punt returns, averaging 24.1 yards
per attempt, aided largely by his two long TD returns. Ulassin has made 28 of the team’s 38
kickoff returns for an average of 21.1 yards while Twer has added six returns for a 24.8-yard
average.
THE JOHNS HOPKINS OFFENSE
The Blue Jays are outscoring their opponents by an average of 41-7 this season. They have
done the bulk of their damage through the air, averaging over 300 passing yards per game.
Tomlin has thrown for a conference-leading 290.8 yards per game, completing 66.2 percent
of his passes while throwing 11 touchdown and only two interceptions. Three different
receivers have put up big numbers, with sophomore Daniel Wodicka leading the way with
39 receptions and four touchdowns while ranking second in the conference behind Twer with
108.8 receiving yards per game. Wernick has grabbed 38 balls for 51.8 yards per game and
four TDs while junior Scott Cremens has contributed with 28 catches, 61.7 yards per game,
and five touchdowns. The team’s leading rusher is junior Jonathan Rigaud, who ranks
fourth in the Centennial Conference with 82.3 yards per game to go with seven touchdowns.
THE JOHNS HOPKINS DEFENSE
Defensively, the Blue Jays have been led by junior linebacker Taylor Maciow, who leads
the team in tackles (36) and sacks (3.0) while senior defensive end Kale Sweeney has
added 34 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss. Senior linebacker Sam Eagleson has made three
interceptions for a team that leads the conference in rush (94.0 ypg), pass (90.7 ypg), and
total (184.7 ypg)defense.
THE JOHNS HOPKINS SPECIAL TEAMS
Like Pennella, sophomore Richie Carbone has doubled as Johns Hopkins’ kicker and
punter. He has scored 37 points on the season, converting 31-of-35 extra points and 2-of-5
field goals. He has also averaged 34.8 yards per punt. Tanner Souza and Wodicka have
split the punt return duties while eight different Blue Jays have returned a kickoff, with none
returning more than two.
HALFTIME RECOGNITION
Six of Gettysburg’s newest inductees into the Hall of Athletic Honor - Lisa De Banico ’84,
Marc Favieri ’90, Ann Hymes ’96, Walt Hemberger ’54, Matt Rockstroh ’87, and Paul
Smith ’00 - will be recognized at halftime of Saturday’s game. They will officially be inducted
into the HOAH Friday night and two of the inductees - Hemberger and Smith - played football
at Gettysburg. Hemberger was a standout tight end from 1950-53 while Smith was a recordsetting tailback and return specialist from 1996-99. Also, the Bullet women’s lacrosse team,
which won the NCAA Division III title last spring, will be honored at the half.
SCORING STREAKS ENDED
With their 14-point game against Muhlenberg, Gettysburg saw a pair of Centennial
Conference and Gettysburg records come to an end. The Bullets had set records for
consecutive 40-point games (six) and consecutive 30-point games (eight), dating back to last
season. The previous conference and school records were four straight 40-point games and
five straight 30-point games.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DelViscio captured a pair of honors following his 13-tackle performance against
Muhlenberg. He was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week, and
earned a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week. Gettysburg has now had five CC
POW selections and four D3football.com honorees this season.
VETERANS MEMORIAL
Fans who frequent Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium undoubtedly have noticed the three new
flags waving just outside the northwest section of the stadium. They are flying above the Gettysburg College Veterans Memorial, which will be officially dedicated Saturday morning at 11
a.m. The idea for the memorial was inspired by K. Richard Brunner, Jr. ’58, who felt the college
needed a memorial to honor the many sacrifices its alumni, parents, and friends have made
since 1832 in the service of their country.
FOUR NAMED CAPTAINS
Four seniors will share the duties of team captain for Gettysburg in 2011. Senior free safety
Joe Delaney was named a captain for the second year in a row while strong safety Peter
Hak, offensive tackle James Monreale, and quarterback Kyle Whitmoyer are serving as
captains for the first time for the Bullets.
NEW FACES ON COACHING STAFF
Gettysburg head coach Barry Streeter added three to his coaching staff during the
offseason. James Boyeas is the new wide receivers/wings coach while JR Clark takes
charge of the defensive backs. In addition, Dean Staley ’08, a former starting linebacker
for the Bullets, returns to coach his former position. Boyeas, a 2007 graduate of Heidelberg
College, most recently coached at Division II Grand Valley State while Clark, a 2008
Wilmington College graduate, comes to the Battlefield from Wittenberg University.
BULLETS PICKED 6TH IN CC PRESEASON POLL
In the Centennial Conference Preseason Poll, the Bullets were picked to finish sixth in

GETTYSBURG 40, URSINUS 34
Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium
Sophomore receiver Aden Twer
caught a 32-yard touchdown pass
from junior quarterback Kody Smith
as time expired, and Gettysburg held
off a furious Ursinus rally to win 40-34
in the Centennial Conference opener
for both teams at a hot and humid
Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.
Gettysburg, which was also playing
its home opener, led 34-10 midway
through the third quarter before
Ursinus rallied with 24 unanswered
points, scoring three touchdowns and
converting the two-point conversion
on all three. Quarterback Chris
Curran capped the rally with a 1-yard
touchdown run – his second of the
game – with 47 seconds left before
running in the conversion himself,
setting up a wild finish. On just five
catches, Twer finished with 179 yards
and tied a school record with three
touchdowns receptions on distances
of 81, 43, and 32 yards. Smith threw
for 291 yards and four touchdowns
– both career highs – on 13-of-22
passing while junior tailback Ted
Delia rushed for a career-best 86
yards on 12 carries for Gettysburg,
which never trailed. Senior safety
Peter Hak paced the defense with a
career-high 15 tackles.
