David Nolan SC was called to the Bar in 1985
having completed a B. Comm. Degree at UCD.
He practiced as a Junior Counsel in Dublin for
eighteen years working in the areas of Personal
Injury, Insurance, Non-Jury and Commercial
Law. He was called to the Inner Bar in March
2003 and continues to practice in the areas
of Personal Injury, Insurance and Commercial
work for both Plaintiffs and Defendants. He
was elected to the Bar Council in 2005, and
is presently the Vice Chairman of The Bar
Council. In 2006 he was made a Council
Member of The Kings Inns and is a Member
of the Education Committee of The Kings
Inns. He is a CEDR Accredited Mediator and
in 2009 was elected to the Council of the Irish
Commercial Mediation Association.
John Healy BL is a practising barrister at the
Four Courts, Dublin. He has written extensively
on the law of torts for over 15 years. He is the
author of Medical Malpractice Law (Round Hall,
2009) which will be published as part of The
Brehon Library. Previous well-received titles
include Irish Laws of Evidence (Round Hall,
2005) and Principles of Irish Torts (Clarus Press,
2006).
Michael Boylan, Solicitor and Partner,
Augustus Cullen Law is a solicitor and
partner in Augustus Cullen Law and is Head of
their Medical Negligence Group. His practice
areas include: clinical/medical negligence
litigation, cerebral palsy claims. He specialises
in obstetric, birth injury claims, and all forms
of acquired brain injuries. Michael qualified
as a solicitor in 1981 and joined the firm of
Augustus Cullen Law in 1986. Over the past
25 years he has specialised in the area of
medical negligence and has been involved in
many of the leading Irish medical negligence
actions including the landmark case of Dunne
v. National Maternity Hospital. He is a former
Council Member of The Law Society of Ireland
and a member of The Litigation Committee of
The Law Society of Ireland. He is a lecturer in
clinical/medical negligence in The Law Society.
Stuart Gilhooly, Solicitor and Partner,
H.J. Ward & Co practices largely in the area
of plaintiff personal injuries litigation. He is
the Chairman of the Law Society’s Litigation
Committee and of the Law Society’s Gazette
Editorial Board. He is the current treasurer
of the Dublin Solicitors Bar Association
and a member of the Law Society Council.
He regularly contributes to the print and
broadcast media on the subject of personal
injuries litigation.

cancellations will be accepted. A refund of your
conference fee less an €80 administrative charge
will then be sent to you. After Friday 13th November
2009 we cannot accept any cancellations and the
full fee is payable. Failure to attend the conference
will be regarded as a late cancellation and your
