Robert Owen Memorial Primary School

Robert Owen Memorial Primary School
Newsletter – June 2015
Another school session has flown by and we are almost at the end once again. Soon it will be time for our P.7s to
leave us, our new P.1s to join us and everyone else to move on up the school. Thanks for all your support
throughout session 2014/15. It has been very much appreciated.
Staffing
Mrs. Crook has been asked to go to Lanark Primary from August until October as Acting Head Teacher.
Although we will miss her here it is an excellent opportunity for Mrs. Crook and I wish her well. At this moment
in time I am not sure as to how this absence will be filled here but I hope to have a clearer idea before the end of
term.
I would also like to say a huge thank you to Miss Rattray, Mrs.Connelly and Miss Donnelly who will be leaving
us at the end of term for the great impact they have all made on the children of Robert Owen. They are all
permanent Area Cover Teachers now so they may be back with us at some time. I certainly hope so.

Lanimers
Our Lanimer Committee has been working extremely hard to produce our school entry for this year’s
celebrations – ‘Seaside Memories’. I would like to thank them for the hours they have put in on behalf of the
school and hope for a great day on the 11th June. I would also like to thank Ruth McAllister for her invaluable
commitment towards the production of the delightful item prepared for the Queen’s Reception. Her input is
always greatly appreciated.
Good luck to our Court Characters – Emma Black, Sarah Aitken, Alicia Gardiner, Christopher Barrett and
Thomas McLellan. I hope you all have a wonderful day and I know I am going to be very proud of you all.
School Sports
As indicated in my last newsletter the P.4-7 sports will take place on the morning of Tuesday 16th
June and the P.1-3 sports will follow on the morning of Wednesday 17th June.
My Money Week
On Monday 8th June Mrs. Steele launched ‘My Money Week’ in the hall. Following on from that the children
have been involved in a variety of activities designed to make them more aware of the value of money and the
importance of budgeting. Myra Dolan, from Blantyre Credit Union, visited on Tuesday to re-emphasise these
important life skills. I would like to thank Mrs.Steele for organising and coordinating the week’s events.
French Day
On Friday 19th June we will be having a French Day. Children will be invited to wear
French colours (red, white and blue) or something French themed. There will be various
activities planned for this day ranging from French P.E. to French Science . There will also
be a French themed Tuck Shop with items for sale from 20p. My thanks to Miss McAllister,
Mrs. Smith, Mrs.Wallace and Mrs. Connelly for their enthusiastic approach to organising this day of fun.
S.Lanarkshire Track and Field Championships
23 of our children did so well at the Clydesdale Sports they have been invited to take part in the
S.Lanarkshire Championships at the John Cumming Stadium on Friday 19th June. I am sure they
will do another great job.
Cycle Training
The cycle training has gone well this year for our P.6 pupils. I am very grateful to Mrs. Hughes and
Mrs. Cross who have gone out in all kinds of weather to give the children as much practice as
possible. Well done to everyone involved!
Lockerbie Manor
I thought I would give advance notice of our Parents’ Meeting for those whose children are
going to Lockerbie Manor in September. We have arranged this for Thursday 20th August at
6.30p.m. Hope to see you there.
Camel Race Night - change of date
Please note that the Parent Forum Camel Race Night will now be held at Stanmore on Friday 23rd October.
The arrangements outlined in my previous newsletter have fallen through so please note the revised date and
venue. More information will follow.
Pyjama/Onesie Day
On Tuesday, 23rd June we will be having a Pyjama/Onesie Day where the children can come to school in their
pyjamas/onesies for a donation of £1 which will go towards our next Lanimer entry. Those who do not wish to
come in pyjamas/onesies can still come out of uniform.
World Environment Day
Everyone had a wonderful day participating in all the activities related to help keep our environment
clean and green. We raised a grand total of £619.22. A big thank you for all the donations which were
handed in and to the parents who came along to support us on the day and to Mrs Gardiner for organising the
day.
Prize Giving
We shall be holding our Prize Giving on Wednesday 24th June at 11.00 a.m. As always prizes have been
awarded to children not only producing a high standard of work but also displaying the correct attitude to
school life throughout the session. This year we are delighted to have Mrs. Aline Wilson, Lanark
Grammar Depute Head Teacher as our Guest of Honour. Parents of prize winners and of P.7 pupils are
most welcome to join us. For the list of prize winners please see the attached sheet.
End of Term

please let me know. Lunches will be available and the canteen staff would be grateful if you could
indicate on the Tuesday if lunch is required on the last day. Home dinners do not go home until 1.00
p.m. unless with an adult. If your child owes lunch money can you please settle up before the end of
term.Have a wonderful summer and thank you, as always, for your support throughout the session. It is greatly
