Theme Park

Theme Park Writing Task
You will be writing a persuasive leaflet for a theme park.
BUT …
Your leaflet will have to show that you understand persuasion so we are not just
going to start doing some drawings and putting down any old ideas – we are going
to write an amazing and totally persuasive leaflet.
HOW?
Your task is to:
9 Come up with some spectacular ideas for the theme park – think about what
rides are there and what can you do there?
9 Use as many sneaky persuasive techniques as you can – remember rule of
three, repetition, slogans and all the other tricks.
9 Most importantly you must persuade your reader that your theme park is the
BEST! – How can you convince your readers?
Plan out your ideas carefully

What you are trying to do.
Who your theme park is aimed at.
What language features you will use like slogans,
alliteration and repetition.
How you are going to set out your leaflet and
what colours, graphics and pictures you will use.
Think about the leaflets you have looked at and
ways that you can advertise your park.

Theme Park Writing Task
GETTING STARTED
1.
Theme park – make up a name and some rides
œ
œ
œ
Try to use some alliteration to make the rides sound fun!
What is a good theme park name?
Will your theme park have animals as well as rides?
2.
Slogan – What is your catchphrase? Can you make it rhyme?
3.
Rhetorical questions – this is a question that doesn’t need an answer
but gets the reader thinking. So you could write:
‘What are you waiting for?’ – Don’t forget the question mark!
4.
Rule of three – repeat something three times to make the reader pay
attention.
5.
Use the word YOU to really focus on your readers – make them feel
involved and that you want them to come!
6.
Command – tell your reader what to do. Use a strong verb:
‘See the rides; hear the screams.’
7.
Statement – what can you say about your park: ‘It is the best!’
8.
Adjectives – use these to describe how wonderful everything will be.
Try not to only use the word exciting.
9.
Make a special offer or bargain – don’t forget to use the word ‘ONLY’ or
‘JUST’. ‘It’s only £6.95. What a bargain!’
10. Repetition – you need to repeat some of your ideas so you persuade:
‘You won’t want to miss this. If you miss this you miss out.’
