Island Map for “The Most Dangerous Game”
Directions: What other dangers has Zaroff hidden on his nightmarish hunting ground? Create a colorful
illustrated map of the island. Include details from the story, such as the château and Death Swamp. Then add
three of your own features with notes explaining the dangers of each one. This assignment is worth 30 points.
Your map must include:
 A full-page, color illustration of the island on computer paper as well as the items listed below.
 Labels for all major points of interest on the map, including the château, Death Swamp, rocky shore,
trees, the Burmese Tiger Pit, the Malay Man Catcher, the Uganda Knife Trap, the cliff overlooking the
sea, and other details from the story. Including the minimum number (8) of points of interest will earn
2 out of 3 points for this component, so use as many additional details as possible! Label each of these
points of interest #1, 2, 3, 4, etc.
 A Map Key (notebook paper or typed) – Label a separate sheet of paper “Map Key.”
 Label first section, “From Story” and include the name of the place and a paraphrased
description (in complete sentences). After the description, inside of the end punctuation,
include an in-text citation (author’s last name and page #). See below for an example:
 1. Chateau – This is the home of General Zaroff where Rainsford stays (Connell 43).
 Think of at least three additional features/points of interest that Zaroff OR Rainsford could have set
on the island. Add these to your map and label them A, B, C, D, etc.
 On the Map Key, add section called “My Own” and include the name of the feature/point of
interest and a description in complete sentences.
 Example:
 A. Monkey Tree – This is a tree filled with monkeys that attack you. A net would hold
up the monkeys. When a person walked under the tree, the net would open and the
monkeys would be freed. The monkeys would be specially trained to return to their
spots in the tree following the attack.
 Neatness and effort count, so be creative!
