Inspiration as resilience handout

Inspiration as resilience-one person’s view!
-Our universe may be 13.5 billion years old or older given recent best estimates by scientists.
It is still expanding at the speed of light-186,000 miles per second! It takes about 8 minutes
for sunlight to reach earth, traveling 93 million miles!
-There are more constellations (clusters of stars) in the universe than grains of sand on the
earth!
-97% of the matter is the universe is invisible.
-“There are perhaps about 100 billion neurons, or nerve cells in the brain, and in a single
human brain the number of possible interconnections between these cells is greater than
the number of atoms in the universe.”
The Amazing Brain, By Robert Ornstein, and Richard F. Thompson
-Blue whales, which can grow to be 100ft. long and weigh 150 tons, burn 3 million calories a
day. Their heart weighs two tons, which is large enough for a child to crawl through.
-Albatrosses, large winged oceanic birds, stay aloft for a year at a time. They have the
unique attribute of being able to sleep with only half their brain awake! The only time they
land is to mate. Research has shown Laysan albatrosses fly 16,000 miles in only a couple of
months. They love squid!
-Sperm whales looking for a mate make a ‘clicking’ sound that resonates off the front of
their skull which can be heard by other Sperm whales as far as 30 miles away.
-There are approximately 2,700 different species of mosquito.
-Each day the sun causes one trillion tons of water to evaporate.
-You share your birthday with at least 9 million other people.
-You are totally unique! However, your genetic code may be repeated about every 5
billionth person. Regardless, there will never be another person exactly like you-ever, ever!!
