Definite articles.
In French, the definite articles are used to refer to
something specific. There are four different forms
of the definite article: le, la, l’ and les (the)
Masculine singular:
Feminine singular :
le bureau
la chaise
the desk
the chair
Masculine or feminine singular before a vowel:
l’élève (m)
the student
l’école (f)
the school
Masculine or feminine plural:
les élèves (m)
les chaises (f)

Indefinite articles.
In French, the indefinite articles are used to refer to
something general.

The “BAGS” Adjectives
1. Most adjectives come after the noun in
French.
Example :
La maison blanche (the white house)
noun adjective
The “BAGS” adjectives are an exception to this
rule.
Example :
La jolie
fille (the pretty girl)
adjective noun
2. ALL adjectives must agree with the nouns
they describe in number and gender.
Example :
le bon garçon (the good boy)
les bonnes filles (the good girls)

In order to conjugate (change) –er verbes in French

1. drop the –er from the infinitive (the simplest form of
the verb, the form which ends in –er);
2. add the following endings to go with the subject (the
person doing the actions.):
