Director’s Notes
Zion Zoo
This week of camp was filled with learning about the zoo. Books, music,
dramatic play and art filled our days.
• Day 1- It’s the zoo! Zookeeper, zookeeper what do you see?
• Day 2- Giraffe. Are you as tall as a giraffe? We measured and
compared ourselves to the height of a baby giraffe. We are all
smaller.
• Day 3- Elephants. We heard the story of Elmer the Elephant and made
our own Elmer by using glue and fabric pieces. We also started to
learn about Noah’s ark.
• Day 4- Whale Day. We sang a song about a whale, read a story about
rainbow fish and a whale, and used water colors to paint a whale. We
worked together to paint a Big Brown Ark.
• Day 5- Zebra Day. We talked about zebras and patterns. We made
patterns using blocks. We cut white tape to make stripes on a black
zebra, or cut black tape to make stripes on a white zebra.

Zoo Too
This week of camp we continued to learn about more animals in the zoo.
• Day 1- Lion Day. We learned that a group of lions is a pride and a
baby lion is a cub. We used our cutting skills to make a lion’s mane on
a lion’s mask.
• Day 2- Alligator Day. We talked about the differences between
alligators and crocodiles. We made two different crocodiles and
heard a story about a crocodile.
• Day 3- Bear Day. Using the story of “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” we
hid animals in a rice shaker.
• Day 4- Monkey Day. We pretended to be 5 little monkeys on a bed.
We painted a brown monkey face and glued on eyes, ears and mouth.
The monkeys are really funny.
• Day 5- Zoo Safari. We made binoculars and went on a hunt. We also
had a special zoo snack of animal crackers, graham crackers and
cream cheese.
