Director’s Notes Zion Zoo This week of camp was filled with learning about the zoo. Books, music, dramatic play and art filled our days. • Day 1- It’s the zoo! Zookeeper, zookeeper what do you see? • Day 2- Giraffe. Are you as tall as a giraffe? We measured and compared ourselves to the height of a baby giraffe. We are all smaller. • Day 3- Elephants. We heard the story of Elmer the Elephant and made our own Elmer by using glue and fabric pieces. We also started to learn about Noah’s ark. • Day 4- Whale Day. We sang a song about a whale, read a story about rainbow fish and a whale, and used water colors to paint a whale. We worked together to paint a Big Brown Ark. • Day 5- Zebra Day. We talked about zebras and patterns. We made patterns using blocks. We cut white tape to make stripes on a black zebra, or cut black tape to make stripes on a white zebra. We learned that a group of lions is a pride and a baby lion is a cub. We used our cutting skills to make a lion’s mane on a lion’s mask. • Day 2- Alligator Day. We talked about the differences between alligators and crocodiles. We made two different crocodiles and heard a story about a crocodile. • Day 3- Bear Day. Using the story of “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” we hid animals in a rice shaker. • Day 4- Monkey Day. We pretended to be 5 little monkeys on a bed. We painted a brown monkey face and glued on eyes, ears and mouth. The monkeys are really funny. • Day 5- Zoo Safari. We made binoculars and went on a hunt. We also had a special zoo snack of animal crackers, graham crackers and cream cheese. So what’s been happening in K-skills? We are using children as letters June 11-August 1 K-skills Summer Camp July 22-26 Sand Castles and Water Works July 29– August 2 Kingdom Rock Call to sign-up for one or more days! Preschool Home Visits • August 20-23 Preschool Visiting Days • August 23-27 Preschool First Days • August 28-30 and numbers to review the alphabet, practice counting and learn about even/odd. The estimation jar has been filled with matchbox cars, unifix cubes, crayons and markers. We are using the terms more and less. We are creating AABB and ABC patterns. We are also practicing our addresses. The children have been mentally and physically active.
