Wax Properties
 Not considered hazardous for supply and during transportation
 Odour – paraffinic hydrocarbon
 Melt point 65 – 80 °C
 Boiling point > 200 °C
 Flash point > 200 °C
 Flammability very low
 Vapour pressure negligible
 Solubility in water negligible
Wax Storage
 No special precautions needed
 Store at ambient temperature
 Above 85 °C decomposition may occur affecting wax performance
 Avoid exposure to strong sunlight as appearance may deteriorate
 Shelf life: Filled, Unfilled, Reconstitutued and Reclaimed wax – 1 year
 Shelf life: Emulsified and Watersoluble wax – 6 months (keep dry)
Wax Handling
 Not considered hazardous for supply
 When molten, wax is potentially harmful due to the temperature of the material

− no special requirements
− maintain normal good procedures, i.e. do not eat, drink, smoke when using the product
− barrier cream and suitable clothing/gloves may be desirable

− risk of burns, use suitable protective clothing and eye protection
Precautions
 Avoid heating above 120°C
 The temperature must never be allowed to exceed 180°C except during dewax when using approved equipment
 Occupational exposure limit
− 2.0 mg/m³ (8hr TWA) for fume/dust
− 6.0 mg/m³ (STEL) for fume/dust
− Wear suitable filter if OEL likely to be exceeded
− Use in well-ventilated area, local extraction may be needed
Ecological & Disposal Information
 Disposal, if liquid allow to cool and solidify. Solids should be disposed of according to local regulations
 No adverse environmental effects foreseen
 Insoluble, not readily biodegradable
 Dispose of through an authorised contractor to a licensed site
 Can be incinerated through an authorised contractor
 Can be recycled
 Packaging can be treated as above
