What is FIFTY/SEVENTY DIVISION? 1. Question: What is 50/70 division? Answer: The 50/70 division is designed for 13 year old players who wish to continue to play baseball in our local Laguna Beach Little League. It has been successfully tested by 200 teams across the county in a Pilot Program the last two years, and in Spring 2012, Little League International voted to adopt the 50/70 as an official Division for districts and local leagues to play, complete with an All Star Tournament and first ever World Series. 2. Does Laguna Beach Little League offer the 50/70 division? The Laguna Beach Little League Board voted unanimously to add the 50/70 division to Winterball 2013 to pilot the program. However, 100% of all Winterball games are being played out of town as we need to renovate our current playing fields. Our hopes are to raise enough funds to retrofit our current fields so that we are ready to have a competitive 50/70 division in the Spring of 2015. 3. What does 50/70 stand for? Answer: The 50 is for 50 feet from home plate to the pitching rubber and the 70 is for the 70 feet between the bases. 4. What are the dimensions of standard Little League Fields (12 and under)? Answer: 46 feet from the pitching rubber to home and 60 feet between the bases. 5. What is different between 50/70 and “Little League” baseball? Answer: Aside from the increased field dimensions, the base runners are allowed to take a lead before the pitcher delivers a pitch. This of course means the pitcher can try and pick off the runner who is leading off. 6. Where are the 50/70 games played? Answer: The LBLL 50/70 pilot division for Winter 2013 holds practices at Thurston, but no playing fields in Laguna are at the proper dimensions to hold games. Our hopes are to raise enough funds to retrofit our current fields so that we are ready to have a competitive 50/70 division in the Spring of 2015.
