Toque Flamenco is Vancouver’s most popular Flamenco band specializing in creating
festiveandbreathtakingFlamencoshowsthatincludemusicanddance.ToqueFlamenco
performs flamenco with passion and rhythmic precision, including spirited, fiery Gipsy
Kings Rumbas, which always get the crowd dancing, as well as soulful, stirring dance
pieces.
Toque Flamenco is born early in 2014 after two greatly talented musicians and one
passionatedancerwhohavebeendoingFlamencoforyearsontheirownmeeteachother
with a shared vision. What happened next was the perfect blending of each other’s
talents,tonsofinspiration,dedicationandcreativity,whichaltogethercreatesastounding
shows every single time. The second dancer, Karito Espí, joins Toque Flamenco late in
2015fulfillingthepurposeofcreatingamoredynamicshow.
Mario,MarilúandKaritohavebothMexicanandSpanishheritage,whilePeterMolewas
borninMontrealandattendedMcGillUniversitywherehestudiedclassicalguitar.Eachof
the band members has a long record of music/dance training and over 15 years of
performance experience. Each of the artists has been privileged enough to train with
some of the best Flamenco artists from Spain, such as dancers Mercedes Ruiz, Concha
JareñoandCristinaBenitez,guitaristsJuanMoneo,DiegodeMoraoandCarlosHeredia,
andsingersJoseBarrul,Paco“GasolinaelChico”and“ElTequiladeJerez”.
Toque Flamenco has different shows for different occasions. They are experienced in
performingatfestivals,concerts,corporateandcharityevents,hotels,weddings,parties
and restaurants. Some examples of their shows include ‘Traditional Flamenco Show’
(guitar, singing, dancing and percussion performing traditional flamenco songs),
‘FlamenRock’(atributetotheirfavouriterockbands,whosesongsareperformedwitha
Flamencotwist)‘Instrumentalonly’(nodancingorsinging,foraquieterperformance)and
‘Rumbas’(coversongsofthemostfamousrumbasthatwillputeveryonetodance).They
haveanextensiverepertoireofFlamenco,RumbasandSpanishmusic.
ToqueFlamencoperformsregularlyaroundVancouver,PeterMole,theleadguitaristhas
beenholdingthemostsuccessfultri-weeklyFlamenconightsattheKinoCaféforover20
years.Forthepast3years,ToqueFlamencohasbeenthemainfeaturedbandattheThe
Kino.OtherrecentperformancesincludetheVancouverInternationalFlamencoFestival,
JazzVespersandtheKaleidoscopeandEuropeanFestivals.
