A little about me:
I was born in Fresno, California. Raised in the stifling, dry heat of the West coast, I grew up with two amazing
parents, two younger siblings, and a loving childhood. When I was ten years old, my father’s entire department was
cut, and he was laid off from his job. With no income and no plan, my parents felt like God was calling them to
move to Texas. With only God guiding us, my little family of five packed up and moved to the vast, unknown land
called Texas. Since then, Texas has become my only true home. After more than ten years living here, I no longer
consider myself a Californian. I am a Texan, and I cannot imagine living anywhere else.
What I like about working at the UWC:
I love the dynamic of working at the UWC. As cliché as it sounds, the staff is like a little family down here. We can
be a little bit silly while being professional and down-to-business at the same time. Working at the UWC is truly a
blessing. I love getting to help students become better writers while working with my fabulous coworkers.
Hobbies:
I consider myself a jack of all trades when it comes to hobbies. I like to read and write, journal and run, swim and
bike. I also love horseback riding. If I had my way, I would spend all day in the saddle. I am also a huge baseball fan
and will always cheer on my Texas Rangers. Most of all, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
Aspirations:
Over the course of my (very short) life, I have wanted to be a number of things: jockey, marine biologist, film
director, museum curator, federal agent, soldier. I guess I suffer from a bit of an identity crisis! If someone asked me
today, I still wouldn’t have a clue of what I want to do. However, I know that God has a grand design for me.
My favorite quote and why:
“I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.” –Nathan Hale
This is my favorite quote because it encompasses so much more than military service. My father, who was an officer
in the Army, taught me a respect and a love for my country at a young age. Even more than that, he told me that
patriotism represents devotion to God, family, and values. Nathan Hale’s last words remind me of what I am willing
to sacrifice for God, my country, and my family.
My favorite Bible verse and why:
“But God demonstrates His love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” –Romans 5:8
To me, Romans 5:8 sums up God’s intense love for you and me. Even while we were living in sin, He loved us
enough to send Jesus to pay the price of death for us. It is the ultimate demonstration of uncompromising love.
