Miscreants’ Christmas
Mystery Play
Ava Gardner Museum
Welcome back Athens of the South players for a
dress rehearsal of the mystery play, Miscreants’
Christmas to be held in the dining room on Tuesday,
November 2nd at 6:30 pm. In order to accommodate
this special performance we will change the dinner
meal to the afternoon. The early seating will be
served at 11:30 am and the later seating will be served
at 1:00 pm. A “miscreant” is a trouble-maker, and the
North Pole has plenty of those as Mother Christmas
calls a council of fictional Christmas characters to
help her find the villain who has kidnapped Father
Christmas, whisking him away to a hiding place in
Fargo and putting the season in jeopardy. Join the
council as they navigate some tricky clues and interact
with the audience to solve the crime. Among the suspects/detectives: Ebenezer Scrooge (still dealing with
curmudgeon issues), Tiny Tim (now all grown up),
Want, the dark and mysterious twin of “Want and Ignorance” who hide under the Ghost of Christmas Present’s cloak, James and Della (the husband and wife
from O. Henry’s “Gift of the Magi)” and the mischievous Jack Frost himself. The characters interact with
the audience between scenes and residents with the
closest guess wins a prize. Please contact the front
desk to RSVP so we can make sure we have adequate
seating. See you at the North Pole!
Don’t miss this trip to Smithfield to explore the Ava
Gardner Museum on Friday, November 19th at
10:30 am. The day will begin with lunch at Wilber’s
BBQ in Goldsboro. This trip is an approximate one
and a half hour drive not including the stop for lunch.
The museum begins with a 15 minute biography
shown in the museum’s theatre. This 5,000 square
foot museum includes a unique selection of Ava’s
costumes, rare movie posters, awards, Ava’s personal
items, photographs, and fine artwork. Please reserve
your seat by signing up. The cost of the museum is
$5 per person.
